Dual-career Couples' Role Expectations Role Conflicts and Marital Satisfactions

The purposes of this article are to find out general trends of dual-career couples' role expectations role conflicts and marital satisfactions and to estimate the differences according to related variables and to analyze the effects of indepedent variables on ole conflicts and marital satisfactions. For these objectives two kinds of questionaire were used and the data were obtained through 169 dual-career couples. The results were as follows; The results were as follows; 1) Dual-career couples' role expectations and marital satisfactions were relatively high but role conflicts were not. Husbands' role expectations were higher than them of wives but wive's role conflicts and marital satisfactions were higher than them of husbands. 2) Dual-career couples' role expectations role conflicts and marital satisfcations were significantly different by communication role related variables and job related variables. 3) Husbands' role conflicts and marital satisfactions were significantly influenced by communication satisfaction and role expectations,. Wives' role conflicts and marital satisfactions were significantly influenced by communication satisfaction husbands' housework aid and role expectations.
The Quality of Life Among Middle-aged Men and Women

This study was designed to investigate the quality of life among middle-aged men and women in Seoul. The primary purposes were to describe perceived life quality of the middle-aged and to examine the relationship among the selected variables. The data for this study were collected utilizing multistage area random sampling method 524 respondents were analyzed using SPSS PC+ statistical package. The major findings are as follows: 1. The level of life quality perceived by middle-aged was 4.7 out of 7 and relatively normally distributed. 2. The quality of life of middle-aged were differed by occupation family income amount of saving home ownership religion and residence. 3. The correlates of life quality were family life satisfaction job satisfaction financial satisfaction health satisfaction leisure satisfaction and stress. 4. Among the variables family life satisfaction was the strongest predictor variable. Thirty six percent of the total variances were explained by family life atisfaction job satisfaction stress health satisfaction and financial satisfaction.
Research on Families in Later Life since 1980: products and Prospects

This paper is a review and assessment of 1122 articles on families in later life from 5 journals published during 1980 and 1995. theoretical and methodological issues family relationships in later life social support network caregiving attitudes and stress life satisfaction and stress of the aged and welfare system for the aged are the major areas examined. The review indicates that this area of research in quantity has increased rapidly since 195. Relationships between aged parents and their adult children focusing on caregiving attitudes behavior and stresses for supporting their parents among the children and adjustment/life satisfaction of the aged are dominantly investigated. However most of the research are non-theoretical and descriptive in nature and the influences of socio-economic variables such as sex health economic status and educational level on dependent variables are widely investigated. Future research questions and issues under the sub-ares of families in lat r life is provided. Further directions and suggestions for future research works on families in later life in general are provided with particular emphasis on conceptual and methodological issues.
Developmental Pattern of marital Satisfaction

The purpose of this study is to identify the objective picture of developmental pattern of marital satisfaction of couples based on family life cycle length of marriage marriage cohort birth cohort and age of couples using data from 317 couples in urban cities. The result indicate that the U-curve of marital satisfaction is the special pattern of family life cycle while W-curve is more dominant pattern when data are analysed with length of marriage birth cohort and marriage cohort. The couples differ in their assessment of marital satisfaction through entire their life span which seems for wives to become more dissatisfied over time. The similarity of developmental pattern the spouses appears only in their birth cohort. Discussion and recommendations for future research of the marital satisfaction are suggested.
The Plannin And Implementing of Children's Education of Household with High School Student

In this study it was assumed that planning was composed of three activities -resource assessment standard setting information seeking and implementing was composed of money investment and time investment, Two variable groups which were assumed to be related with planning and implementing were household characteristics and housewife's value characteristics. Money investment to children's education was significantly affected by income, net wealth of household instrumental value of eduation and information seeking about private education. The variables assumed to affect time investment to children's education were instrumental value of education information seeking about private education and expected education level.
A study on the development of educational program for families with demented elderly persons

The purposes of this study were to understand caregiving situation and to develop education program for families with the demented elderly,. Family caregivers of elderly patients with dementia clearly experience high levels of stress which often leads to such negative caregiver outcomes as depression interference with social activities and health difficulties. That is providing care is stressful for caregivers because the demands of the caregiving situation threaten to overwhelm the caregivers' coping resources. Therfore the families with demented elderly persons need assistances in order to alleviated burden of caregiving, In this study the educational program was designed to increase caregivers' confidence in problem-solving, And it was designed to provided information to demented elderly. The educational program of this study was given 5 session. And it was included the understanding of dementia the family caregiving experiences of the demented elderly persons the time for elf-care the search for helping the improving of interpersonal relations and communications.
Caregiver Burden and Rewards in New Generation and Middle-aged Couples

The purpose of this study was to compare the caregiver burden and rewards in new generation and middle-aged couples. Data were collected from 207 new generation couples and 196 middle-aged couples who had either of older parents and lived in Seoul. Major findings are as fallows; 1. The burden were constituted with restriction of privacy physical burden strain psychological burden economic cost and guilt. The rewards were constituted with recognition pride maturity improving relationship and assistance of household and childcare. 2. The caregiver burden of new generation and middle-aged wives were hgiher than husbands. Hwever the caregiver rewards of new generation and middle-aged husbands were higher than wives. 3. The caregiver burden of middle-aged husbands were higher than new generation husbands bur there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged wives. 4. The caregiver rewards of middle-aged wives were higher than new generation wives but there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged husbands.
Debt Management and Financial Satisfaction among Urban Households -Application of Systems Approach-

Debt was defined as all kinds of borrowings made by families in including credit card debt. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of family debt management on financial satisfaction. A model of debt management and financial satisfaction was developed based on the Deacon-Firebaugh's systems approach to family resource management and the variables comprising input throughput and output were based on the theoretical background asnd previous researches. Data were collected from 763 households' money managers residing in Seoul during Summer of 1995 and the statistical methods utilized included correlation coefficient multiple regression and path analyses. It was responded about 82% of the households had been indebted indicating the use of debt being a general way of living in this society. The results showed that financial satisfaction lowered with larger amount of monthly debt payment and with their uncertiainty regarding their capability to repay debt. The input which exerted direct effects on financial satisfaction were income asset financial expectations and family life cycle. And consumption demand on debt and easiness in extending credit had strong indirect effects on financial satisfaction via the throughput variables. The most powerful predictor of financial satisfaction via the throughput variables. The most powerful predictor of financial satisfaction was perceived difficulty in managing debt which was the instrumental output.
A Study on Farm Women's Stress in Productive Activity

The purpose of this study is to show farm women's stress under productive activity role multiple overload through family characteristic (pattern and number) and characteristic(type working time and involvement proportion) of productive activity. The outline of the study is as follow; 1. Stress by pattern and number of a family is highest in a four generation family and increases according as the number of the family increases. 2. The characteristic of productive activity : 1) Stress based on type of productive activity is highest in Type III of the most multiple overload roles. 2) in light of stress based working time area of household task activity is in inverse proportion to working time but area of farming and wage earning activity are approximately in direct proportion to it. The two-way ANOVA analysis show that stress in Type I of area of household task increases but in Type IV it decreases as working time increases 3) In stress based on involvement proportion to it. The wo-way ANOVA analysis show that stress in Type I of area of household task increases but in Type IV it decreases as working time increases. 3) In stress based on involvement proportion in three as working time increases 3). In stress based on involvement proportion in three activity areas the more the involvement proportion the less of the stress : an inverse ratio.
A Study on Consumer Information Needs

This study attempts to explore urban married women's consumer information needs through assessing their demand level for information. In addition the causality of consumer information needs and related variables is investigated, Major findings are the following: (1) Respondent's needs for consumer information on the color television set and the tryply-pan are in very high level. (2) Among several relevant characteristics respondents' product involvement and perception on the quality differences is strongly related to information needs, (3) Respondents' self-confidence in the product evaluation respondents' perception of the price dispersion and product complexity show a positive effects on the level of information needs. (4) Respondents' age educational level purchasing experience show a negative effects on the level of information needs.
A Study on the Household's Debt and its Determinants

Even if holding debt may be a rational means for household to maximize utility under any circumstance and any time through the family life cycle most households have some difficulty to determin and keep the moderate debt amount. The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of household's debt and the factor associated with debt. Data used in this study consisted of 4,009 households. The results of this study were as follows; Among 4,009 households 1,400 housholds?(34.9%) owed. Age education and occupation of household header liquid and real asset and housing ownership had significant effects on whether household having debt. The real and liquid asset had significantly positive relation with the liabilities of financial agency whereas the occupation of household header liquid asset and unearned income with private liabilities. Finally age education and occupation of household header home ownership and liquid asset had significantly negative effect on the total a ount of debt while earned and unearned income and real asset had positive one.
Expenditure on Education for Children's Human Capital

The Purpose of this study is to find out factors which affect the expenditure on educations for children's human capital and to provide fundamental information to make a policy for education. Data are obtained from 2484 maried couples with children on the pre-school or over. The results of this study are as follows: 1) If the eldest child was in pre-school or public school, the expenditure on private education was higher than that of public education. While in the beyond junior high school, the expenditure on public education was much higher. 2) Life-cycle, the number of children, region, earned income, non-earned income, real assets, Engel's coeeficient were significant impact on the expenditure of education.
A study on Home Management Ability of the Low Occupational Status Employed Wives

The purpose of this study is to investigate the home management ability of the low occupational status employed wives so that the findings may offer them significant information and interest to improve the ability of home management For these purpose reviewing literatures and empirical research were conducted. The sample of this study was selected from the low occupational status employed wives engaging in Seoul Kyoungkee Inchoen, The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. The mean score of the Low Occupational Status employed wives' home management ability was relatively low. Influential variables on home management ability were level of education job-husband income as sociodemographic variables and degrees of communicative satisfaction between husband and wife sex-role attitudes job satisfaction economic life satisfaction and perceived adequacy of resources as psychological variables.
A Study on Social-Psychological Marital Conflict of Urban Couples -As Related to Couples in the Early Marriage State-

The purpose of this study was to investigate the social-psycholigcal marital conflict contents and marital conflict degree and find out how socio-demographic variables had an effect on marital conflict. For these pourposes 265 couples in the early marriage stage in seoul were randomly selected. The data were analysed through statistical methods such as frequency percentile paired t-test F-test Scheffe-test factor analysis. The major finding of this study were as follows: First the main social-psychological marital conflict contents was the attitude or habit of life communication sexual life personality and intimacy. Second the degree of marital conflict was relatively low. Taking a look at each conflict fact wives was higher than husbands in the degree of the conflict in intimacy factor. Third among socio-demographic variables level of family income wife's education and marriage style had influences on the the marital conflict degree.
Correlations among male college students' perceptions of the degree of closeness to their fathers their fathers' paternal role and their own paternal role in the future

The purpose of this study is to provide basic data needed to examine the relationship between father and son by investigating correlations among male college students' perceptions of the degree of closeness to their fathers their fathers' paternal role and their own paternal role in the future. The subjects of this study were 474 male college students(sophomores juniors and seniors) from Seoul and Daegu. The questionaire the means of this research is composed of classified questions on related studies and on the researches of reference literatures, Statistical methods applied for data analysis were frequencies mean standard deviation Pearson's correlation. Major findings are as follows; 1) When a son perceives that he is on intimate terms with his father he perceives that his father performs paternal role well. Intimate relation between the father and the son can be considered essential to good performance of paternal role. 2)When a son perceives that he is on intimate terms w th his father he believes that he will perform his own paternal role will in the future. That is the son seems to accept his future paternal role positively as he feels close to his father. 3) Male college students who perceive their fathers' paternal role is properly performed tend to believe they will perform their own paternal role well in the future. Judging from the relation between fathers' performance of paternal role and sons' perception of thir future paternal role we can say good performance of paternal role is important is building up sons' affirmative perception of paternal role.
Consumers' Energy Conservation Behavior and Response to the Energy Conservation Policies

The purpose of this study was to identify (1) consumers' energy conservation attitude and behavior and (2) response to the energy conservation policies. For this purpose 1,200 male and female consumers who residents of 6 cities (Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju. Taejoen, and Inchon) were surveyed through the standardized questionnares. The major findings were as follows; (1) The level of energy conservation attitude was relatively high and differed significantly according to sex, age, and education, (2) The level of energy conservation behavior was differed significantly according to sex, age, and education. (3) The energy conservation policies which provide consumers with energy saving information and education were more preferred. (4) There energy conservation attitude had the strongest effect on the energy conservation behavior.
A Causal Modeling Analysis between Peer Acceptance and the Related Variables

This study was designed to analysis a causal modeling between peer acceptance of children and the related variables. The subjects were 430 5th and 6th elemantary school children. Using questionnares data on peer acceptance aggression & withdrawal behavior rated by same-sex peers and mother-child attachment were gathered,. For the statiscal analyses multiple regression and path-analysis were used. The results show social behavior that effects peer acceptance is influenced by not only aggresive behavior but also withdrawal behavior, Peer acceptance was not affected directly by mother-child attachment and paternal education while academic achievement affected peer acceptance indirectly. Therefore children's peer acceptance is mainly determined by social behavior as well as academic achievement.
A Study on the conflict of Children in Adolescence -by Socio drama-

Eleven junior-college students in Seoul who are interested in a drama volunteered to take part in the sociodrama. Their ages range between 21 and 35-all not married. The drama was performed 14 tiems. In the sociodrama test the conflicts between parents and their children and between siblings appear to be the factors of uneasiness and trouble. Parents' nrgative attitudes and the conflicts between siblings in childhood are the factors of the conflicts of the children in adolescence. This study is summarized into the following two points. 1. Parents' negative attitude toward their children in childhood can be the cause of the conflicts of their children in adolescence. 2. THe sociodrama is a very effective way to find the trouble between parents and their children and to search for the solution to it.
Middle-aged children's filial responsibility of their aging parents: From filial obligation to filial maturity

Due to the increase in life expectancy the family life of recent days has been through significant changes including prolonged relationships among different generations within families and changing roles and relationships. From the perspective of the care for elderly parents middle-aged children's filial responsibility habe been examined. Based on balanced reciprocity between middle-aged children and their aging parents each party is able to allow each other to respond needs and to respect rights. It is assumed that middle-aged children's moral development may be useful to discriminate levels of filial responsibility from filial obligation to filial maturity. This assumption challenges previous beliefs that filial obligation and filial maturity are the same,.
Setting Poverty Line of Food Away from Home by Comparing of Consumption Pattern among different Social Classes -With a focus on the 1993 Urban Wage Earner's Family-

Food away from home consumption pattern difference among 20 different social strata has been observed in order to make judgement how much food away from home expenditure should be included in the 2 tiered poverty line. It was found that it was reasonable to include food away from home expenditure in the minimum living cost. And as social class rose expenditure amount and percentage of consumption compared to total food expenditure increased and income elasticity and margial propensity decreased. Percentage of consumption compared to total expenditure increased up to middle class however from 14/20 and up strata decreased as social strata rose. For 4 members city wage earner family suggested monthly poverty line is 16, 977 and suggested monthly relative poverty line is 60, 651.
