A Sudy on home-based work and its effects on family life managment

The purpose of this study is to review current home-based work study and identify factors associated with the choice of home-based work. Home-based work as an alternative form of employment is being sought today by both workers and business. The information age with its empasis on the recoding and transfer of information along with the technology of telectommuting has increased potential for and attention to home-based work. Home-based work seems to have several advantages particulary for women who carry the double burden of household work and paid work. The reduction in traffic congestion and demand of fossil fuels that accompanies the elimination of commuting has also been seen as a important social benifit. Home-base work has potential that can improve women's labor force participation. Further study is needed to evaluate home-based work and critical advice to current and prospect workers.
The Standard of Living Aspired by Korean Consumers : A Consumer Research with a Qualitative Method

The purpose of this study is to understand the elements of the standard of living aspired by today's Korean consumers with the consumer choice theory of the institutional school. This study attempted a qualitative method that is narration to collect live stories from 12 narrators. The results of this study indicated that Korean consumers eagerly aspired socially oriented standard of living which is farely materially oriented and mainly composed of a fixed list of famous brands. The physiological and welfare elements of the standard of living were not expressed in 12 narrators' stories. The personal and individual elements were also expressed within a limited extend. These results imply that the neoclassical theory of consumer choice is not appropiate for consumers in culture of collectivism.
Determinants on the Socialization of Housework

The purposes of this study were to 1) clarify the determinants on socialization of housework and 2) illuminate the determinants on it according to the domain of housework. Research methods was literature review. Major findings were as follows ; 1) the determinants on socialization of housework were devided two categories. One was the characteristics of market goods and service and the other was the characteristics of homemaker. 2) The determinants on socialization of housework were different according to the domain of housework. Through these findings it is possible to know how housework is implemented according to the domain and predict the household living of future.
A study of the Relationship between Children's Self Esteem and Maternal Child Rearing Behaviors and Home Environmental Variables in Urban and Rural Community

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the maternal child rearing behaviors and home environmental variables related with children's self-esteem in urban and rural community. Subjects were 435 boys and girls enrolled in grade 4, 5, 6 and their mothers from five public elementary schools in Chonan city and Naju city. The instruments for the study were coopersmith's Self Esteem Inventory Korean Maternal Behavior Inventory and questionnaire on home environmental variables. The data were analyzed by Pearson's one-way ANOVA t-test and Duncan post hoc test. The major findings were as follows: 1. Children's self esteem and 'Affection' and 'Achievement' of maternal child rearing behaviors were a positive correlation. 2. Children's self esteem of urban community was higher than that of rural community. Maternal child rearing behaviors of urban community was 'Achievement' of maternal child rearing behaviors were a positive correlation. 2. Children's self e teem of urban community was higher than that of rural community. Maternal child rearing behaviors of urban community was 'Active Involvement' and that of rural community were 'Authoritaran Control', 'Overprotection' and 'Achievement' 3. There were no differences in children's self esteem with family size. 4. There were significant differences in children's self esteem with parent's educational leveland monthly family income; the higher parent's educational level and the more monthly family income the higher children's self-esteem. 5. There were also significant differences in maternal child rearing behaviors 5. There were also significant differences in maternal child rearing behaviors with 'Achievement' by parent's age monthly family income and family size in 'Reasoning Guidance' and 'Active Involvement' by parent's educational level. in 'Authoritarian Control' and 'Overprotection' by monthly family income and in 'Reasoning Guidance' and 'Authoritarian Control' by family size.
Housewife's Housework Time and Household Expenditure for Time-saving at the Lifecycle Stage

The purpose of this study is to investigate housewife's housework time and the expenditure for time-saving goods and service at the lifecycle stage and to identify the relationship between demographic characteristics and these two variables. The data is collected by using questionnare distributed to 412 housewives living in Seoul and around new two cities. The data is analyzed using Mean Frequency Percentile One-way ANOVA Pearson's Correlation and Regression,l The result of this research is as follows; 1. Housewife's housework time has significant relationship with the lifecycle stages (p<0.01) And the most influencial factor to it is housewife's employment and the next are domestic helper monthly household income and housewofe's age(p<0.01) 2. The expenditure for time-saving has most significiantly related to the lifecycle stages. And the other influencial factors to it are houswife's employment monthly household income and housewife's age(p<0.001) The explanatory power of al variables is 36%.
The mechanization of Housework : Focused on Diffusion Process and influencing Factors

The purpose of this study was (1) to explore the diffusion process of household capital goods(2) to examine the economic and social factors influencing on the diffusion process and to discuss whether the household capital goods would be introduced for the efficiency of housework. For the purpose this study made use of all sorts of literature. The results were summarized as follows: Household capital goods were developed about the time of 1960's and were spreaded in 1980's In this course such socio-economic factors as the development of electronic industry the price change of household capital goods and services the decrease of employed housekeepers and the increase of income level in fluenced on the diffusion process. It seemed that houehold capital goods were not introduced only for the efficiency of housework.
A Study on Elder Mistreatment I : Empirical Investigation of Perceptions of Elder Abuse and Neglect among married Peoples

This article aims to investigate the perceptions of mistreatment of elderly among the married men and women. The subjects of this study are 291 married men and women. The major finding is that the increased stress of caregiver may lead to elder abuse of neglect. According to the above finding, it may be appropriate to offer various assistance to the suspected abuser. That is, education, couseling and social support services may help alleviate the caregiving stress contributing to the mistreatment
A Validity Study of an Instrument for Children's Stress Coping Behavior

The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument which measures children's stress coping behaviors. The first 89 items were selected based on a literture review and a pilot study of 129 children with open questions. The final 75 items were selected using the data from subjects of 500 4th-5th and 6th grade children living in Seoul. The main study was conducted on March 5-10 1997. The data were analysis by frequencies percentages factor analysis and Cronbach's a. The resulting nine catagorical factors of 75 items in strument for children's stress coping behaviors were as fallows: positive revaluation of the situation emotional aggression problem-facing behavior information search for problem-solving emotion-vonvering behavior avoidance seeking spiritual support physical seperation for emotional relaxation emotional expression, The 9-factor 75-item scale explains 60.9% of children's stress coping behaviors and its value of Cronbach's a is 9.5.
A study on the housewives' perceptions behaviors nd counterplans for the old age

These days the predictable problem of he housewives is the economic poverty if they don't provide for their old age themselves. The purpose of this study is to investigate some influencing factors related to the housewives' perceptions behaviors and counterplans for the old age. There were significnat differences on the preparatory behaviors for the old age according to the enviornmental variables and the buying styles and lifestyles. The receptions and the preparatory behaviors for the old age was shown a positive correlation r=4.2(p<0.01) The most influencial variables on the behaviors of the old age by the housewives were in the order of the behaviors of the old age by the housewives were in the order of the joining pensions the concerns of the counterplans for the old age the timing of the economic counterplans the lmpulsive buying style the pursuit of the information the energefic activity the perceptions of the elderly living the percetions of the elderly occupation and erceptions of the silver industry. The housewives of this study were in difficulties for the economic counterplans for the old age. The most difficult problems were their health and their economic situations.
Family Resource Management and Financial Well-being of Employed and Unemployed wives in Household

The major purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship of employed and unemployed wives' financial management behavior and financial well-being on the basis of the family resource management system theory. The data were obtained from 660 wives who lived in Seoul 1996. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. Regardless of the wives' employment status marriage duration and level of wives' education negatively influenced objective financial well-being in the case of unemployed wives but one in the case of employed wives. 2. Both unemployed and employed wives locus of control over their financial situation positively influences subjective financial well-being 3. It was found that personal and managerial factors had effect on subjective financial well-being both for unemployed and employed wives. The path model designed in this research was found to be proven for unemployed but not for employed wives.
A study on the late payment behavior of the Consumer Credit

The purpose of this study was to (1) identify sociodemograghic, economic, psychological and use of credit variables that influence the late payment behavior of three types of consumer credit which are service credit, credit card, installment purchasing credit, (2) compare the levels of the credit counselling between the normal payment behavior group and the late payment behavior group about both of the counselling experiences and needs. Data were collected from questionnaires with 337 adults who were residents of Seoul. The major findings are as follows ; (1) There are independently significant probability differences for measure of the sociodemographic, economic, psychological and use of credit variables on dichotomous Logit analysis (2) Both the experience and need levels of credit counselling were concentrated on the family.
A Study on the Perceptional Transition of Housework

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptional transition of housework from the ancient society to the modern society. In the ancient society, there was no difference in the meaning between domestic life and housework, it was thought that they were whole unity. In the medieval society, there was a beginning to differenciate the meaning between domestic life and housework, but there was no actual division between the one and the other. But in the modern society, it is thought that domestic life and housework is not only differenciated in concept, but also divided actually.
A Preliminary Study on Development of Family Welfare Service Program

The purpose of this study were to identify the differences between the demand for education program and the demand for counseling program of family welfare and to analyze the relation between demographic characteristics and the demand for family welfare service program For these purposes, total sample of 909 women those residing in Seoul, Inchon, Taejun, Taegu, Pusan, Kwangju, Chungju, Junju and Choonchun, were selected. Statistics were frequencies, means, percentile, cross-tabulation, t-test and Anova. The results were as follows. First, in family welfare service program on children and adolescents, the improvement in family living, consumption, retirement planning, health management, protection of environment and resource, volunteering and the advance of living culture, the demand for education program were higher than the demand for cunseling program. In particular, demands for both education program and counseling program on children and adolescents were the highest. Second, age, residence and income had very significant effects on the demands for both education program and counseling program. By understanding these differences in the demand for education program and counseling program of family welfare, practitioners and educators may be able to develop family welfare service program to solve family problems.
