The Relationship between marital communication Style and Marital Violence

The purpose of this study was to explore marital violence from a communication perspective. A total of 352 marital couples in Pusan completed a structured questionnaire. The major findings were as follows: 1,. Husbands and wives reciprocally inflicted psychological aggression and physical violence. But husbands were more to inflict sexual violence and injury toward their wives. 2. When husbands have more the distractor and the blamer of communication style. they inflicted more physical violence toward their wives. When wives have more the blamer of communication style they inflicted more psychological aggression and physical violence toward their husbands. 3, Housbands inflicted psychological aggression toward their wives when husbands experienced child abuse from their parents. husbands inflicted physical violence toward their wives when husbands have the distractor of communication style experienced witness of spousal violence between father and mother and experience of scho l violence experience in the middle and high school. Wives inflicted psychological aggression toward their husbands when wives experienced witness of spousal violence between father and mother and have the blamer of communication style. Wives inflicted physical violence toward their husbands when wives experienced child abuse from their parents.

An Applying of Wellbeing Perspectives to Household Life and the Practical Orientation

The human ecology research has focused continuously on household life and its relationships with environments. Today the household life has changed very rapidly. The human ecology takes such challenges which its academic research should focus on not only the household life but also the social environments. And the growing interest on wellbeing society persuade the professionals of human ecology to introduce the wellbeing concepts and perspectives. Therefore this study tried to reveal the effectiveness of applying wellbeing perspectives to household life and the practical orientation. The implication of this study : through the perspectives of wellbeing the human ecology could reinforce its academic status in may related fields
The Levels and Determinants of Subjective Cost-of-Living by Leyden Approach

The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of subjective cost-of-living and its determinants. 328 housewives who live in Seoul were selected as the sample of this study and surveyed by questionnaire method. Results showed that the mean value of subjective cost-of living was 1,280 thousand won for the poverty level of living 1,990 thousand won for the standard level of living and 3,020 thousand won for the sufficient level of living. The determinants of the level very with the level of the living however the actual level of consumption expenditures and the education level of respondents were positively related with all three levels of the subjective cost-of-living while the self evaluation for own life was negatively related with them
A Study on the Financial management Behavior and Financial Satisfaction of Housewives in Pusan and Kyugnam Region Based on the Systems Approach

This study examined the relationships among resources demands financial management behavior and financial satisfaction of housewives based on the systems approach. The data were collected from 212 housewives living in Pusan and Kyungnam region by the self-administered questionnaire. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) the communication frequency of husbands and wives was an important factor affecting financial satisfaction; (2) the perceived financial status such as comparison to reference groups and aspiration for financial status in the future had an influence on financial satisfaction as well as the objective variables such as monthly living costs and monthly savings; and (3)financial satisfaction was also affected by financial management behavior. These findings imply that the financial management program focusing on the ways to increase communication among family members and to implement financial behavior effectively should be developed.
A Study on the Leisure Life Satisfaction of the Elderly in the Urban Areas

The purpose of this study was to analyze interrelationship among the degree of leisure activity the level of leisure needs and the satisfaction of leisure life of the elderly in the urban areas and to identify the factors which have effects on them. The sample were composed of 421 elderly over 60 years old living in Seoul. The data were analyzed by the statistical methods such as the frequency percentile mean standard deviation cronbach'a coefficient pearson's correlation stepwise multiple regression analysis path analysis utilizing SPSS/WIN. It intended to help the elderly to make advantage of their leisure time more effectively and to increase their the satisfaction of leisure life eventually to improve the quality of their lives.
The relationship between mother's value and parenting attitudes and children's behavioral inhibition

this study examined behavioral inhibition in relation to their mothers' value and attitudes toward children's inhibited behavior as a function of child sex. Data were collected via questionnaires from a sample of 483 7-to 8 year-olds and their mothers. Results showed that there were no significant differences in mother's value mothers' attitudes toward child behavior and child's behavioral inhibition according to child sex. However it was found that mothers' value was associated with attitudes toward child inhibition and behavioral inhibition in 7-to 8 year-olds girls. more specifically mothers who hold high traditional values were not concerned about girls' inhibited behavior and thus in turn had more inhibited girls. But the associations were not found for boys. the results indicated cultural effects on parenting attitudes as well as child inhibition.
The Use of Leisure Program in the Public Community Facilities -Comparing the Middle-aged with Aged-

The purpose of this study was to compare the factors affected on the leisure participation leisure satisfaction and leisure effect of the middle-aged with those of the aged who were paticipated in the leisure program of the public community facilities. the sample of he study consisted of 218 midle-aged and 163 the aged living in Seoul and Daegu. Frequencies means ,
,T-test and multiple regression were employed for the analysis. The results of this study were as follows; The middle-aged had more positive leisure attitude than the gaged less leisure participation and more leisure satisfaction. The factors affected one he leisure participation of the middle-aged were region and fee and those of the aged were region leisure attitude and fee. The factors affected on the leisure satisfaction of the middle-aged were number of the family region and the access of the transportation as compared with those of the aged were sex health status and the access of transportation. And the factors had effects on the leisure effect of the middle-aged were sex educational attainment number of the family the access of transportation and fee comparing with those of the aged were educational attainment and leisure attitude.
Relationships between Guilty and Rule violation Acts

The purpose of hisstudy was to explore effects of adolescents age sex and parental types on the types guilty and correlations between the Rule violation types and guilty types. A All of 698 middle school students and high school students in Pusan were administered Questionaires. The major findings of this study were as follows: Younger adolescents reported more guilty feelings than older adolescents in all types of guilty. Female adolescents reported more in selfish type guilty than males. Parental induction induced adolescents reported lower rates of violation in all types of rule violation than older adolescents. Male adolescents reported more violation in public related rule violation and property damage rule violation than females. There were negative relation between all guilty types and all Rule violation, These results were discussed and its implication and following study were suggested.
Attachment to Parents: Relationship to Self-esteem and Adjustment to College

Theis study examined relationship between college student attachment to parents and two broad indices of adolescent adaptation -selfe-esteem and adjustment to college. Also the association of parental attachment bonds to college adjustment would be mediated by self-esteem was examined in this study. Participants included 381 college students(176 men 205 women) As expected parental attachment was positively related to self-esteem and college adjustment. gender of parent differences emerged in which attachment to father was a more important predictor of college adjustment than was attachment to mother. Self-esteem played a mediating role in relation between parental attachment and college adjustment, Furthermore self-esteem was a most significant predictor of college adjustment .
Family member's Perceived attitude toward housewife's volunteer activities and The related-influences on their family lives

The purpose of this study was to explore family member's perceived attitude toward housewife's volunteer activities and examined the realated-influences on their family lives. The major findings were that(1) men had more conservative attitudes. and some reluctance to the wives' volunteer activities compared to the adolescent (2) education and the personal experiences of the volunteer activity were the most influential factor to family member's attitudinal difference(3) family members had some ambivalent attitudes toward the wive(mother)'s volunteer activities more positive to the general perception and more negative to their daily life chores resulted from her social activities (4) the longer the volunteer activities continued the more functionalized and satisfied the family members and lives were.
The relations between friendship peer aggression and victimization by peers in early adolescents

The relations between friendships peer aggression and victimization by peers were examined with a sample of 426 second-grade junior high school students(210 boys and 216 girls) Data were collected using questionnaires regarding friendship(number of friends and presence of a best friend) peer aggression and victimization by peers. The number of friends was significantly related to peer aggression both in boys and girls indicating that the more friends they had the less peer aggression they showed. Peer aggression didn't vary as a function of the presence of a best friend. The number of friends was also significantly related to victimization both in boys and girls. The more friends they had the less victimization they experienced. Victimization varied as a function of the presence of a best friend only in adolescent boys in which those having a best friend were rated by peers to experience less victimization, Victimization was related to peer aggression both in boys and girls. T e more victimization they experienced the more peer aggression they showed.
Comparative Analysis of Consumption Expenditures by Occupation of the Household Head

This study has investigated the degree of similarities and/or differences of consumption expenditure styles among the households with different occupation. Two types of analysis were performed. One was comparative analysis which used to identify the changes of consumption expenditure styles among different occupation classes using time-series data of 1977-1996 Korean Urban Household Expenditure Survey and Rural Household Economy Survey. The other was multivariate analysis to investigate the effects of occupation on consumption expenditure styles with 1551 sample household data from 1996 Korean Urban Household Expenditure Survey. The results showed that the differences in consumption styles among different occupation classes including farmers are diminished during last two decades while there still exist some degree of differences in consumption styles. After controlling other socio-economic factors it is found that occupation is a determinant of consumption patterns of urban w ge earners especially consumption for clothing and health items.
The Contribution of Home Management Research to Society -Focusing on evaluation of practical characteristics of the research-

The purpose of this study is to examine how Home Management era has contributed to social development in this country. For this purpose several famous research Hournals related Home Management era -Korean Journal of Home Economics(1980-1999) Journal of Korean Home Management(1983-1999) Journal of Child Development (1990-1999) Journal of Rarmily Resource Management (1996-1999) Jornal of Family Relations(1996-1999) -were analysed. On this study the evaluating criteria of the research were focused to 1) The outcome of the research can provide proper information and help for general home and families\ulcorner 2) The outcome of the research can provide the proper and helpful information for government policy of family related\ulcorner Among 2820 papers only 10% of them(partially child development era 49 family related era 68 family resource management 64 consumer related 46 and housing related 53 were selected. Conclusionally we have to have more attention to the research topics for policy oriente and helpful for welfare policy for family. For that we need to have more integrated perspectivwe for Home Management era.
A Review on Child Studies for 20 Years: How Much did the Studies Contribute to Society\ulcorner

This study was to review the child research articles in the field of home economics in Korea for the last two decades and to evaluate the child studies in terms of home much the child research had contributed to society. For the purposes of this study all the child research articles that had been published in the three representative academic journals of Korea were reviewed. A framework to evaluate child studies was decided in accordance with objectives of the research theoretical and practical, Theoretical studies imply ones dealt with child development and personality parent-child relations development of measures and thoughts on children while practical studies mean the research on development of parent education programs child education programs mental health of children wellbeing of children and child welfare policies. Results of qualntitative analysis in this study showed increases in numbers of both theoretical and practical studies. Practical studies however occupied j st 4-12% of all the research article published in the last 20 years. The Results of this study indicated researcher' low involvement in pratical studies. Researchers in the field of child studies had most frequently conducted research on child development and parent-child relations which were conducted based on theoretical knoledges from the West. For the practical child studies there were some studies on developing parent education programs and a few articles dealt with child welfare policies and wellbeing of children for two decades. Furthermore the major variables of the practical studies were analyzed and evaluated with respect to their contribution to society as well as socializing child relate issues. Finally the reasons of scholars' low involvement in practical studies and some suggestions for further studies to deal with practical child issues were discussed.
The Trends and Social Contributions in the Field of Consumer Studies during the 1980's and 90's

This study is purposed for examine the trends and social contributions in the field of consumer studies during the 1980's and 1990's All the 420 articles on the consumer studies published in the Journal of Korean Home Management Association the Journal of Korean Home Economics Association the Journal of Family Resource Management Association and the Journal of Consumer Studies are analysed by the themes the published journals and published years. The consumer areas are divided into two major sub areas. They are family economics(which is including consumption theory and pattern and family financial management ) and consumer affairs (which includes consumer behavior consumer policy and consumer education) The proportion of publishing is about 40% in former area and about 60% in latter area. And the evaluation of the social contributions of consumer studies and the strategies to enhance are also discussed.
The Contribution and Evaluation to the Studies in Family Resource Management

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the trend of studies in family resource management and the contribution to family and society trough the studies since the establishment of The Korean Home Management Association. For this purpose this study analized 363 articles published in 4 journals relating to family resource management for 2 decades,. The contents are 1) an analysis to the trend of the studies classified by subject and period 2) an analysis to the ratio and trend of practical studies 3) a critic to the problems which this field of studies contains of 4) the suggestions for the future-enlargement of the information and practical education enrichment of education through the field study development of methods and contents for the study.
Studies on Famoloty in Home Management Since 1980

This study analyses various articles on famology presented in home journals 1980. The articles show rapid growth in quantity and variety of subjects and also show high quality of research analysis methods. However only 13.5% of the articles contribute to social problems. This study claims that various arguments and analyses should be made concerning the prospect of Korean families and the family functions. Educational programs must be made for healthy families and solving family problems and of counseling and therapy. And scholars should take a role in central or local government committees to shape policies for family welfare. They should also go into the local societies for practicing their studies.
Practical Issues of Housing Studies

The purpose of this research is to bring out some practical issues of housing studies prblished by Home Economics researchers since 1980. There were 299 articles related to housing in three major journals such as Journal of the Korean one Economics Association Journal of Korean Home Management Association and Housing Research Journal. It has been remarkable progress in terms of the quality as well as the number of articles during 20 years. However this study could be brought out some research issues in the methodological and theoretical aspects to improve the applicability of housing studies to dedicate family life and housing policies.
