The Role of Psychological Factors Towards the TAM Model
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 1~14
New information technologies have often been treated as innovations for target users. Although users in recent times have had significantly more opportunities to be socialized with information technologies, the rapid pace of technology development usually means that every new technology represents a fairly major change over the previous one. Although a fairly significant body of research that empirically tests these alternative models and theories is now in existence, some questions with regard to the role of perceptions in innovation adoption remain unanswered. This paper reports the results of a field study examining adoption of an information technology innovation represented by an internet application. Moreover, the study examines the effects of an important moderating influence-personal innovativeness-on this adoption process. Finally, the study seeks to shed further light on the determinants of perceptions by examining the relative efficacy of mass media and interpersonal channels in facilitating perception development.
The Web Site Design Simulation Using Stratified Fuzzy Cognitive Map
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 15~32
It is well known that the web design is composed of several factors which are interacting with each other. However, the current approach to web design had been focused on modifying specific factors without considering its impact on other factors. In this sense, we propose more holistic approach to the web design by using fuzzy cognitive map. For this purpose, we form an illustrative fuzzy cognitive map for the web design which is based on the literature, and analyzed and impact of change in a specific factor on other factors. Especially, to improve the output analyzability, we suggested an advanced version of fuzzy cognitive map called stratified fuzzy cognitive map. After simulating the fuzzy cognitive map for web design, we could conclude that our approach is robust and effective compared to the traditional web design approach.
Traffic Grooming and Wavelength Routing for All Optical WDM-Ring Network
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 33~44
In this paper, we address a problem of traffic grooming and wavelength routing in all optical WDM ring networks. Given a traffic demand for each node pair, we should aggregate the traffic onto lightpaths between pairs of nodes to transport the demand, and set up the routing path for each lightpath with minimum number of wavelengths to be assigned to lightpaths. In this paper, we formulate our problem as a mixed Integer Programming model. Owing to the problem complexity, it is hard to find an optimal solution for our problem. hence, we develop a heuristic algorithm to solve our problem efficiently. From the computational experiments, we can find the proposed heuristic is very satisfactory in both the computation time and the solution quality generated.
Decision Coordination Mechanism to Resolve Conflicts between Departments: Emphasis on Web-DSS Approach
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 45~60
As the advent of the Internet, most of the modern firms are now forced to use the internet as one of telecommunication tools for daily activities, Especially, as the decision units and/or makers in a firm become geographically dispersed due to the globalization trend, the need for integrating them effectively on the Internet is getting attention from researchers and practitioners much more than ever. In literature, this kind of need has been specially conspicuous in the need for coordinating production and marketing activities which are known as one of the typically conflicting with each other in terms of purposes. Lee and Lee(1999) has proposed an interesting coordination environment for production and marketing, named PROMISE. This paper is aimed at improving the coordination algorithm utilized in PROMISE and accordingly proposing a web-driven DSS for the purpose of transforming PROMISE into a web-based decision support platform for production and marketing coordination.
A Two Stage Game Model for Learning-by-Doing and Spillover
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 61~69
This paper presents a two stage game model which examines the effect of learning-by-doing and spillover. Increases in the firm’s cumulative experience lower its unit cost in future period. However, the firm’s rival also enjoys the experience via spillover. Unlike previous theoretical research model, a cost asymmetric market entry game model is developed between the incumbent firm and new entrant. Mathematical results show that the incumbent firm exploits the learning curve to gain future cost advantage, and that the diffusion of learning to the new entrant induces the incumbent firm to choose decreasing output strategically. As a main result, we show that the relative magnitude between the learning and spillover rate determines the market share ratio of competing firms.
Operation-sequence-based Approach for Designing a U-shaped Independent-Cell System with Machine Requirement Incorporated
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 71~85
This paper considers a cost model for a U-shaped manufacturing cell formation which incorporates a required number of machines and various material flows together under multi-part multi-cell environment. The model is required to satisfy both the specified operation sequence of each part and the total part demand volume, which are considered to derive material handling cost in U-shaped flow line cells. In the model several cost-incurring factors including set-up for batch change-over, processing time for operations of each part, and machine failures are also considered in association with processing load and capacity of each cell. Moreover, a heuristic for a good machine layout in each cell is newly proposed based on the material handling cost of each alternative sequence layout. These all are put together to present an efficient heuristic for the U-shaped independent-cell formation problem, numerical problems are solved to illustrate the algorithm.
Transfer Batch Scheduling for a Two-machine Flow Shop with Attached and Separated Setup Times
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 87~96
This paper considers the transfer batch scheduling problem for a two-machine flow shop with setup times consisting of attached setup time and separate setup time. The attached setup is attached to the processing and can be scheduled in anticipation of arriving work. Two cases of the separate setup are addressed. One is the case that the separate setup can be done only when a machine is idle. The other is the case that the separate setup can be done even though the machine is idle. the other is the case that the separate setup can be done even though the machine is operating. A scheduling rule similar to Johnson\`s rule is suggested to minimize makespan. the scheduling rule developed can be applied to most of the two-machine flow shop scheduling problems if some parameters are adjusted. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the scheduling rule.
Vehicle Travel Time Analysis in Automated Guided Vehicle Systems
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 97~108
Design and evaluation of AGV-based material handling systems are very complicated due to the randomness and the large number of variables involved Vehicle travel time is a key parameter for designing and evaluating AGV systems. Although loaded travel time is relatively easy to estimate, determination of empty vehicle travel time is difficult due to the inherent randomness of material handling systems. Most previous studies assume that the empty vehicle travel time is the same as the loaded travel time or assume very specific environments. This paper presents new vehicle travel time models for AGV-based material transport systems. The research effort is focused on the estimation of empty vehicle travel time under various vehicle dispatching policies. Simulation experiments are used to verify the proposed travel time models.
Bankruptcy Prediction Model with AR process
Journal of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society, volume 26, issue 1, 2001, Pages 109~116
The detection of corporate failures is a subject that has been particularly amenable to cross-sectional financial ratio analysis. In most of firms, however, the financial data are available over past years. Because of this, a model utilizing these longitudinal data could provide useful information on the prediction of bankruptcy. To correctly reflect the longitudinal and firm-specific data, the generalized linear model with assuming the first order AR(autoregressive) process is proposed. The method is motivated by the clinical research that several characteristics are measured repeatedly from individual over the time. The model is compared with several other predictive models to evaluate the performance. By using the financial data from manufacturing corporations in the Korea Stock Exchange (KSE) list, we will discuss some experiences learned from the procedure of sampling scheme, variable transformation, imputation, variable selection, and model evaluation. Finally, implications of the model with repeated measurement and future direction of research will be discussed.
