An Integrated Planning of Production and Distribution in Supply Chain Management using a Multi-Level Symbiotic Evolutionary Algorithm

This paper presents a new evolutionary algorithm to solve complex multi-level integration problems, which is called multi-level symbiotic evolutionary algorithm (MEA). The MEA uses an efficient feedback mechanism to flow evolution information between and within levels, to enhance parallel search capability, and to improve convergence speed and population diversity. To show the MEA's applicability, It is applied to the integrated planning of production and distribution in supply chain management. The encoding and decoding methods are devised for the integrated problem. A set of experiments has been carried out, and the results are reported. The superiority of the algorithm's performance is demonstrated through experiments.
Trust Measurement Using Fuzzy Theory and Trade Protocol Recommendation Based on Trust Level in Trusted Auction System

The explosive growth of the internet-based transactions requires not only a secure payment system but also an appropriate trust measuring methodology and secure transaction protocols to guarantee the minimal risk for the transacting entities involved in specific transactions. Especially, in internet auction systems where either buyers or sellers or both can be more than one in one transaction, providing those systems that make sure no one transacting entity takes a major risk becomes critical. In this paper, an improved trust measuring method using a relationship-based internet community for an auction system is proposed. The proposed system incorporates fuzzy set and calculation concepts to help build trust matrices and models, which is used to measure the level of risk involved in a specific auction trade concerned. Also, to optimize the auction trade process in terms of cost and time, the proposed system recommends a differentiated trade protocol according to the risk level involved in each auction trade. To test the appropriateness of the proposed trusted auction system, a prototype system has been developed under a Windows-NT environment.
Entrepreneur, Environment, Strategy, Structure, and Performance Changes of High-Tech Ventures

Generally high-tech ventures have few resources with which to withstand unpredictable environmental jolts. Therefore environmental changes may have severe effects on the performance of high-tech ventures. Unfortunately previous empirical studies for predicting the performance of ventures hardly deal with such dynamic changes of performance. We try to examine the performance changes of ventures through a longitudinal study before and after severe environmental changes, namely IMF Bailout Memorandum. For the empirical study, we classified venture firms into four types based on entrepreneur's assessment of their performance changes and investigated how these four types differ in characteristics of entrepreneurs, environment, strategy, and organizational features. We found that differentiation strategies, fit between strategy and environmental changes, entrepreneur's trust and activities such as networking and knowledge accumulation about customers, and decentralized organizational structure were important to the performance changes of high-tech ventures.
The Expectation Dilemma of Customer Satisfaction Model : A Unified Model of Expectancy Disconfirmation and Diffusion

Many firms try to enhance the customer satisfaction, because they believe that higher customer satisfaction leads to superior returns. According to expectancy disconfirmation model, consumers judge the satisfaction in comparison with their expectations about the product performance. If the performance is above the expectations, increase in satisfaction is expected. If the performance is below the expectations, decrease in satisfaction is expected. This explanation contradicts our beliefs that higher expectation leads to consumer's choices. To address the contradiction, this paper present a unified model which combines the expectancy disconfirmation model with the well-known diffusion model. The unified model shows that the expectation can increase the choices even if the expectation decreases the satisfaction.
Scheduling of Real-time and Nonreal-time Traffics in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN

Media Access Control (MAC) Protocol in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN standard supports two types of services, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous real-time traffic is served by Point Coordination Function (PCF) that implements polling access method. Asynchronous nonreal-time traffic is provided by Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) based on Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. Since real-time traffic is sensitive to delay, and nonreal-time traffic to error and throughput, proper traffic scheduling algorithm needs to be designed. But it is known that the standard IEEE 802.11 scheme is insufficient to serve real-time traffic. In this paper, real-time traffic scheduling and admission control algorithm is proposed. To satisfy the deadline violation probability of the real time traffic the downlink traffic is scheduled before the uplink by Earliest Due Date (EDD) rule. Admission of real-time connection is controlled to satisfy the minimum throughput of nonreal-time traffic which is estimated by exponential smoothing. Simulation is performed to have proper system capacity that satisfies the Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. Tradeoff between real-time and nonreal-time stations is demonstrated. The admission control and the EDD with downlink-first scheduling are illustrated to be effective for the real-time traffic in the wireless LAN.
Scenario-based Goal-oriented Approach for Use Case Modeling

Use case modeling on UML (Unified Modeling Language) is getting widely used in OOAD and CBD and it is considered a useful technique in dealing with the complexity of the requirements analysis. However, some of the problems with use case modeling are that it is not structured, difficult to handle non-functional requirements, and to analyze impacts among use cases. To alleviate these problems, we propose a scenario-based goal-oriented approach for use case modeling. The proposed approach is to apply a goal-oriented analysis method to use case modeling. Since goal-oriented analysis method is not systematic and many heuristics are involved, we have adopted scenarios as the basis for goal extraction. The proposed method is applied to CBIS (City Bus Information Subsystem) in ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) domain. The proposed approach helps software engineers to analyze the impact among use cases and represent non-functional requirements.
A Study of Data Mining Techniques in Bankruptcy Prediction

In this paper, four different data mining techniques, two neural networks and two statistical modeling techniques, are compared in terms of prediction accuracy in the context of bankruptcy prediction. In business setting, how to accurately detect the condition of a firm has been an important event in the literature. In neural networks, Backpropagation (BP) network and the Kohonen self-organizing feature map, are selected and compared each other while in statistical modeling techniques, discriminant analysis and logistic regression are also performed to provide performance benchmarks for the neural network experiment. The findings suggest that the BP network is a better choice among the data mining tools compared. This paper also identified some distinctive characteristics of Kohonen self-organizing feature map.
Determination of Arc Candidate Set for the Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem

The traveling salesman problem (TSP) is an NP-hard problem. As the number of nodes increases, it takes a lot of time to find an optimal solution. Instead of considering all arcs, if we select and consider only some arcs more likely to be included in an optimal solution, we can find efficiently an optimal solution. Arc candidate set is a group of some good arcs. For the Lack of study in the asymmetric TSP. it needs to research arc candidate set for the asymmetric TSP systematically. In this paper, we suggest a regression function determining arc candidate set for the asymmetric TSP. We established the function based on 2100 experiments, and we proved the goodness of fit for the model through various 787problems. The result showed that the optimal solutions obtained from our arc candidate set are equal to the ones of original problems. We expect that this function would be very useful to reduce the complexity of TSP.
Traffic Modeling and Performance Analysis of Mobile Multimedia Data Services

The aim of this study is to identify the data traffic capacity of 3G mobile communication networks, especially of cdma2000-1X networks. Three-layered ON/OFF traffic model is used to describe the dynamics of data traffics and the process of data transmission such as packet scheduling. We construct a simulator fully incorporating packet handling process of cdma2000-lX data network as well as three-layered ON/OFF traffic model describing the behavior of source data traffics. To get influence of traffic parameters on performance measures, the extensive simulations were performed for several data sets which are obtained from real trace data or previous studies. The experimental results show that the engineered throughput satisfying QoS criteria is approximately 25% of total capacity. Finally, some proposals to improve the system capacity are followed.
