A Study on the Difference of Technological Absorption Level in the Foreign Direct Investment Companies

Foreign direct investment is considered to be one of the important technology transfer channels from advanced countries to less developed countries. The purpose of the study is to find the answers for the problems: if there is any difference of technology absorption level between the foreign affiliate companies, and what are the major factors which explain the difference. It is shown that the technology absorption level of foreign affiliate company is negatively related to the management control level by foreigners, to the rate of exportation, but positively related to the number of competing company and to the nature of generality of the technology.
Path Optimization for Aircraft

This paper shows a new efficient solution method of finding an optimal path for a cruise missile or aircraft to a target which has the maximal survivability and penetration effectiveness against sophisticated defenses and over varied terrain. We first generate a grid structure over the terrain, to construct a network. Since our network usually has about 10,000 nodes, the conventional Dijkstra algorithm takes too much computational time in its searching process for a new permanent node. Our method utilizes the Hashing technique to reduce the computational time of the searching process. Extensive computational results are presented.
Optimal Location of Facilities with Upper and tower Capacity Hounds

This paper deals with the problem of locating facilities with upper and lower capacity bounds in a single level physical distribution system at minimum total costs. Several known schemes for location problems with upper capacity bounds only are successfully extended to our case and then implemented into our branch ana bound solution procedure. Computational experiments with twelve test problems suggest the effectiveness of our approach by showing that only a small amount of additional computation is required for our problem as compared to that for the problems with upper capacity bounds.
A New Method for Warehouse Location Problem

The purpose of this paper is to find a new method for the warehouse location problem. Akinc and Khumatvala developed a branch and bound algorithm for a one-stage problem, that is, plants and warehouses are at the same location. This paper extends this method to a two-stage problem, that is, plants, warehouses and users are located at different sites, and further this paper allows direct flows from plants to users. The new method is tested at Perkins-Elmer. The test shows that the algorithm is efficient.
Subjective Point Prediction Algorithm for Decision Analysis

An uncertain dynamic evolving process has been a continuing challenge to decision problems. The dynamic random variable (drv) changes which characterize such a process are very important for the decision-maker in selecting a course of action in a world that is perceived as uncertain, complex, and dynamic. Using this subjective point prediction algorithm based on a modified recursive filter, the decision-maker becomes to have periodically changing plausible points with the passage of time.
Multi-Objective Stochastic Optimization in Water Resources System

The purpose of this paper is to present a method of multi-objective, stochastic optimization in water resources system which investigates the development of potential non-normal deterministic equivalents for subsequent use in multiobjective stochastic programming methods, Given probability statement involving a function of several random variables, it is often possible to obtain a deterministic equivalent of it that does not include any orginal random variables. A Stochastic trade-off technique-MSTOT is suggested to help a decision maker achieve satisfactory levels for several objective functions. This makes use of deterministic equivalents to handle random variables in the objective functions. The emphasis is in the development of non-normal deterministic equivalents for use in multiobjective stochastic techniques.
