A primal-dual log barrier algorithm of interior point methods for linear programming
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 1~11
Recent advances in linear programming solution methodology have focused on interior point methods. This powerful new class of methods achieves significant reductions in computer time for large linear programs and solves problems significantly larger than previously possible. These methods can be examined from points of Fiacco and McCormick's barrier method, Lagrangian duality, Newton's method, and others. This study presents a primal-dual log barrier algorithm of interior point methods for linear programming. The primal-dual log barrier method is currently the most efficient and successful variant of interior point methods. This paper also addresses a Cholesky factorization method of symmetric positive definite matrices arising in interior point methods. A special structure of the matrices, called supernode, is exploited to use computational techniques such as direct addressing and loop-unrolling. Two dense matrix handling techniques are also presented to handle dense columns of the original matrix A. The two techniques may minimize storage requirement for factor matrix L and a smaller number of arithmetic operations in the matrix L computation.
Integration and some efficient techniques of the simplex method
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 13~26
In this paper we studied an integration scheme of some simplex algorithms and some efficient techniques to get the stable solution in linear programming code. And we developed a linear programming package (LPAK) by introducing this scheme and techniques. In LPAK three different algorithms were integrated, which were two primal simplex algorithms using Two phase method and big-M method respectively, and the dual simplex algorithm. LPAK introduces several heuristic techniques in each step of simplex method in order to enhance the stability and efficiency. They were new heuristic methods in structuring initial basis, choosing entering variable, choosing dropping variable and performing reinversion. The experimental results on the NETLIB problems showed that LPAK provided the stable solutions.

The interior point code OB1 for linear programming
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 35~46
The primal-dual log barrier code OB1(Optimization with Barriers 1) has been identified the most efficient one in reducing computer time and solving large linear programs. This is a brief survey of OB1's life-time and performance.

Cut tree approach for facility layout problem
Kim, Chae-Bogk ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 55~65
Given the flow matrix, plant size and department sizes, the algorithms in this paper provide the layout with rectilinear distance. To construct automated facility design, cut tree approach is employed. A branch and bound computer code developed by Tillinghast is modifided to find the feasible fits of departments without shape distortion in the plant rectangle.
An object-oriented design for integrated production management system
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 67~85
We design an integrated production management system that incorporates management tasks of procurement of materials, production, and marketing. It includes MRP simulation on small or medium sized companies, design of databases, and definition of relevant objects in production environments. The system has been designed using object-oriented programming concept not only to represent the real-world situation easily, but also to help system integration. Graphics-User Interface(GUI) is also employed for the efficiency of production planning.
A methodology for view integration in manufacturing database design
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 87~102
Conceptual database design is an important activity because the performance of a DBMS heavily depends on the proper design of the database, and view integration is one of the most important phases of conceptual database design. During this phase, the individual views designed by separate user groups are integrated into a global view for the entire system. After the view integration, a database schema must be validated before it becomes a stable product of the design. In this paper, a methodology for view integration an validation is suggested. The individual views are modeled by entity-relationship model. The entities are integrated according to their name and domain information. After that, the relationships are merged by their constraints. We also present a methodology for checking redundant relationships which has an algorithmic description.
A survey on the topological design models for fiberoptic subscriber loop networks
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 103~128
Due to the trend of evolution toward a broadband communication network with fiber-optics, the design and operation of fiber-optic network have been received a great deal of research attention recently. Furthermore, even a single fiber link failure in the network may result in severe service loss. Thus, the network survivability becomes an importantissue in planning and designing the network. This survey is on modelling of various fiber-optic subscriber loop network(FSLN) design problems, which are essential ones for providing broadband communication services and B-ISDN services. Models are classified and investigated as either conventional decomposition-iteration approach or integrated design method. To build survivable networks, SHR models are also suggested by ring control schemes. The result of this study will be effectively applied to build a design model for FSLN in the practical applications.
정보통신표준화분야 우선순위결정을 위한 방법론 연구
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 129~151
This paper focuses on method of setting priorities for telecommunications Standardization in which usually includes prioritization, resource allocation, standardization schedule for each SWA is based on prioritization of SWAs. We mainly used the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and a modified Delphi technique as a method for planning process. Recently, rapid technology evolution in telecommunications fields increases the necessity of developing more and more new standards. Also increased complexity of technologies makes standards more complicated, more specified and more thick than the past ones. As a result, the number of SWAa(Standardization Work Areas) and SWIs(Standardization Work Iterms) is being increased continuously. Furthermore, rapid telecommunication environment changes such as deregulation, liberalization, privatization, regionalization, and globalization surrounding telecommunications standardization grows increasingly important. To cope with these challenges and to make the more efficient use of the limited standardization resources, i.e., time, financial, personal resources, we will suggest logical and rational approach that is a backbone of strategic plan for telecommunication standardization. The telecommunication standardization planning process involves a MCDM(Multi-Criteria Decision Making) process. The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is a kind of MCDM approach. Our method is based on a combination of a modified Delphi technique and an application of AHP(spreadsheet model). Analyzed data from Delphi technique is used as inputs to AHP. In addition we also focus on the technique how to combine group judgments and to handle a large number of comparisons.
A study on the credibility estimation model for the indurance experience rate-making
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 153~167
Credibility theory has provided with a useful tool the assignment of weighting factor that reflects the credibility of the observed individual and collective experience to secure fair experience rate-,making. We review credibility models which can effectively estimate risk premiums using credibility theory, and suggest an empirical Bayed model based on the collective statistics to estimate the structural parameters. To illustrate the use of evolutionary models, the models are applied to the actual data, such as loss ratio, claim frequencies and severity, in the Korean automobile insurance. Also the possibilities of generalizations and applications of empirical models are discussed.
Improving the effectiveness of cooperative R&D between Government-Supported Research Institutes and small & medium firms
Korean Management Science Review, volume 11, issue 3, 1994, Pages 169~183
Government provides for special considerations to technology transfer and cooperative R&D between Government-Supported Research Institutes(GSRI) and Private sector. Nevertheless, the results of many cooperative R&D stagnates in the innovation. This paper examines the reasons for the current low level of the effectiveness of cooperative R&D between GSRIs and small & medium firms. Recommendation are made to enhance the effectiveness of cooperative R & D.
