The Effects of Decision-Making Situation In Ultimatum Game
Park, Sang-June ; Cheon, Do-Jeong ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 1~12
In the ultimatum game two players have to divide a certain amount of money between them. One player is the allocator and proposes a division of the money. The other is the recipient and can either accept or reject the proposed division. If the recipient accepts, the money is divided as proposed. If the recipient rejects, however, both players receive nothing. Purchase decisions could be classified on two basic factors (or dimensions) : involvement and think/feel in the FCB grid model. In this study we studied the influences of the two factors in purchase decisions on the choice of strategy (or propensity to fairness) in the ultimatum game. The empirical study showed that a decision maker chooses rational strategy more frequently when he (or she) is thinkful (or cognitive) in high involvement level.
Combining Model Development for Targeting Top Music 10 Additional Service Product of A Mobile Telephone Company
Chun, Heui-Ju ; Lee, Jae-Yeong ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 13~23
Top music 10 is a additional service product of the A mobile telephone company. Up to now, A company is just selling it by outbound TM to customers which visit any contents of Top Music 10. In this paper, we proposed a targeting method combining two score models by data mining. The proposed combining model is to find customers more likely to respond to outbound TM. The proposed targeting method is expected to improve both from 32.8% to 44.0% in the response rate and from 54.7% to 61.4% in the retention rate.
Real-time Integrated Timeslot and Code Allocation Scheme for the CDMA/TDD System Supporting Voice and Data Services

Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 25~42
CDMA/TOD with asymmetric capacity allocation between uplink and downlink is a highly attractive solution to support the next generation mobile systems. This is because flexible asymmetric allocation of capacity to uplink and downlink usually improves the utilization of the limited bandwidth. In this paper, we mathematically formulate an optimal timeslot and code allocation problem, which is to maximize the total utility considering the numbers of codes(channels) allocated to each data class and the forced terminations of previously allocated codes. We also suggest a real-time integrated timeslot and code allocation scheme using Lagrangean relaxation and subgradient optimization techniques. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides high-quality solutions in a fast time.

Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 43~55
Contingent valuation method(hereafter CVM) is generally believed to be one of the most popular methods used for quantifying the value of non-market goods or services particularly by asking respondents of willingness to pay. This study deals with how to use CVM in calculating the value of mobile telephone service by suggesting methodology of estimation and eliminating biases. This study represents an attempt to estimate the WTP(Willingness To Pay) of the mobile telephone service using the face-to-face interview which is the qualitative technique is used. In this study, by using the single bound dichotomous choice model(SBDC) in order to analyze the valuation of mobile telephone service, WTP was estimated. Also we analyze the factors to pay for mobile service in which it becomes the important factor of demanding services. We used logit model. In order to provide robust estimates of WTP, we have used the Method of Montecarlo Simulation. Consequently, consumers showed that WTP about the mobile communications service is generally high. And it could know that the WTP will fell down as the specialized knowledge about the mobile communications frequency was high. It will be able to become the important part to not only the business carrier but also the policy maker to estimate the economic value of mobile telephone service.
Factors Affecting Subscribers' Switching between Providers within Mobile Number Portability System

Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 57~71
We study factors that affect consumers' switching behaviors among service providers in Korean mobile telecommunications service market. For empirical analysis, quarterly time series data from the first quarter of 2004 through the second quarter of 2007 were used. We chose the number of switchers to each mobile service provider in each quarter as dependent variables. Independent variables include acquisition costs per subscriber, which play the role of subsidy to mobile handset, switching costs, time trend, structural change effect, and waiting demand effects. Through the empirical analysis, we found that each provider's churn-in customers are affected by different factors. Specifically, the number of churn-in customers into SK Telecom is explained mainly by SK Telecom's customer acquisition costs and waiting demand from KTF, while the number of customers switching into KTF is better explained by switching costs from the previous service provider and waiting demand from SK Telecom. Those who chose LG Telecom as their new provider, on the other hand, were mainly attracted by LG Telecom's high subscriber acquisition cost.
Location Area Planning Using Ant Colony Optimization

Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 73~80
The location area planning is to assign cells to the location areas of a wireless communication network in an optimum manner. The two important cost components are cost of location update and cost of paging that are of conflicting in nature; i.e., minimizing the registration cost might increase the search cost. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. In fact this is shown to be an NP-complete problem in an earlier study. In this paper, we use an ant colony optimization method to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for a given a network.
A Study on a new Algorithm for K Shortest Paths Problem
Chang, Byung-Man ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 81~88
This paper presents a new algorithm for the K shortest paths problem in a network. After a shortest path is produced with Dijkstra algorithm. detouring paths through inward arcs to every vertex of the shortest path are generated. A length of a detouring path is the sum of both the length of the inward arc and the difference between the shortest distance from the origin to the head vertex and that to the tail vertex. K-1 shorter paths are selected among the detouring paths and put into the set of K paths. Then detouring paths through inward arcs to every vertex of the second shortest path are generated. If there is a shorter path than the current Kth path in the set. this path is placed in the set and the Kth path is removed from the set, and the paths in the set is rearranged in the ascending order of lengths. This procedure of generating the detouring paths and rearranging the set is repeated until the
path of the set is obtained. The computational results for networks with about 1,000,000 nodes and 2,700,000 arcs show that this algorithm can be applied to a problem of generating the detouring paths in the metropolitan traffic networks.

Lee, Jeong ; Jeong, Suk-Jae ; Kim, Kyung-Sup ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 89~109
As the importance of logistics is increasing, Enterprises try to design the supply chain(SC) network to minimize the total costs considering inventory holding cost, transportation cost and apply the efficient strategies of supply chain based on SC network. Despite of this efforts, Calculating the logistics costs without reflecting the real components of logistics like the packaging cost, transportation related cost, storage cost, loading & unloading cost, and distribution costs, the companies has many limitation to calculate the logistics cost of real enterprise. For overcoming such problem, this paper is aimed at establishing SC strategies which can be an efficient alternative for a decision making on supply chain, based on existing reference and current logistics networks of 'L' company in Korea. Also, we analyze the interaction effects between strategies as well as install the optimal SC network reflecting concrete logistics components from the viewpoint of total logistics costs using the simulation and statistic methods. we expect that analysis results of this paper would be applied various industries and be utilized to the efficient tools for the decision making by planing and execution of the logistics budget from enterprises.

Jung, Ha-Gyo ; Whang, Kyu-Seung ;
Korean Management Science Review, volume 25, issue 2, 2008, Pages 111~127
This paper analyzes the technological competitiveness of aircraft-based industries that are the basis for the development of aircraft industry in Korea. By performing expert interviews with industry specialists in the field of aircraft technology, the paper categorizes eight fields that are fundamental to the development of the aircraft industry. By analyzing patents of G7 countries and Korea made in the US from 1995 to 2006 we were able to identify the technological specificities and competencies of each country. RTA (Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII (Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, by introducing the TCI (Technological Competitiveness Index) the paper is able to consider both the quantitative level and the qualitative level of patents for each field in the aircraft industry. By analyzing the TCI, the paper concludes that Korea has high technological prowess centered around IT industries such as semi-conductors/ electronics component, communication appliances and consumer electronics. Also Korea is relatively competitive in the precision instruments industry.
