Investigation of Environmental Noise in Elementary School

Environmental noise raises serious problems in our ciries. Noise reduces the preformance task, and occasionially causes the physiological problems such as nervous strain, headache etc. This study is to investigate the environmental noise of elementary school classrooms in attempt to probide the basis of appropriate sound performance standards. Field interview survey with a total of 369 subjects in 3 elementary schools and simultaneously measurements of noise level have been made. The results of study show that the A-weighted noise level is in excess of the criteria recommended by I.S.O. and 69% of the subjects are annoyed by the environmental noises : in particular traffic ; and market noises.
Voiced, Unvoiced, and Silence Classification of human speech signals by enphasis characteristics of spectrum

In this paper, we describe a new algorithm for deciding whether a given segment of a speech signal is classified as voiced speech, unvoiced speech, or silence, based on parameters made on the signal. The measured parameters for the voiced-unvoiced classfication are the areas of each Zero crossing interval, which is given by multiplication of the magnitude by the inverse zero corssing rate of speech signals. The employed parameter for the unvoiced-silence classification, also, are each of positive area summation during four milisecond interval for the high frequency emphasized speech signals.
Improvement of acoustic feedback stability by bandwidth compression and expansion

Both shifiting the input signal's frequencies by a fixed frequency and compressing the input signal's bandwidth have been known to be effective in improving the stability margin of public adress systems operating in reverberant spaces. This paper describes the effect of an alternative approach of improving the acoustic-feedback stability and yet maintaining speech inteligibility by bandwidth compression and expansion. Conditions are derived for this technizue to be realized and an experimental system has been made - up. A series of experiments has been performed in small spaces and the results have shown that more than 5dB improvement can be obtained in the stability margin.

A Study for the Sound Reinforcement System in Conference Room Using Linear Array Microphone

This paper suggests a method on the use of very long linear array microphone in order to obtain clear loud sound reinforcement system without howling. According to the results of the theoretical investigation, we have made that a linear array microphone. This is made of one hundred small condenser microphone having 2 cm of spatical period. To estimate the effect of sound reinforcement system physically and subjectively, four cases have been experimented : In case of using no sound reinforcement, nondirectivity microphone, rectangular window and Hnning window in linear array microphone. The experimental results prove that the case of Hnning window in linear array microphone is more excellent.
