Study on the present condition and characteristic of the costumes excavated in Chonnam area
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 197~205
It is possible to examine the costume of Chosun era that tombs excavated in chonnam area, have contained various kinds of clothes. There are six tombs in which costumes have been excavated in Chonnam provinces. One(Go un) is tomb of the early years of Chosun Dynasty and the other tombs is those of the middle years of Chosun Dynasty(16∼17 century). There were many kinds of Po which was called Jickryung, Danryung, Chullik, Dappo, Jangui, So-changui etc, and contained chechori, skirts, under-trousers in tombs. But there are not see Kuui, Dopo that excavated in other area. Chullik showed the features of winkle, sleeves and the ratio of length. Dappo was only to be seen in a Go uns grave. Mens chechori collar(kit) was called Mokpankit in all, and womans chechori collar was called Kalkit or Tangkokit. The length of chechori was different according to the times. Most trousers are types of underwear and also there are Sapok tousers, open trousers. The characterstics of excavated costumes are not regional feature but trend of the times. The costumes excavated in Chonnam area are similiar to those excavated in other area at the same times.
The Influences of Risk Perceptions and Clothing Involvements on Information Search Behavior

For such purpose, fabrics which were used in the womens formal wear market of Korean(n=25) and U.S.A.(n=25) in the 1999 spring/summer season were collected from different fabric converters of the two countries. The respondents were comprised of 50 Korean and 50 U.S.A. female volunteers in the age group of 20s and 40s. A 5 point Likert Scale was used to evaluate the degree of the \"like\" preference of fabrics. T-test and Spearmans rho statistics were conducted for data analysis. The followings are the results. 1. Korean 20s and American 20s preferred Korean fabrics but Korean 40s and American 40s preferred U.S.A. fabrics. 2. Generally, the 20s preferred greyish or tone down color, whereas the 40s preferred both greyish and colorful fabrics. 3. Koreans preferred melange colored fabrics as well as solid color fabrics. 4. Americans liked knit fabrics as well as woven fabrics for formal wear and 20s liked compact density fabrics compared to the 40s age group.age group.
Consumer Perception of the Korean Economic Crisis in 1998: Impacts on Purchase Behaviors of Foreign Products
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 228~236
Economic crisis in Korea since December 1997 had tremendously affected consumer behavior. This study examined consumer perception of the economic crisis and investigated its impacts on consumer ethnocentrism and purchase behaviors of foreign products. Two product categories of clothing and cosmetics were selected fro empirical testing. Data were obtained from a questionnaire survey to female consumers in Korea during September 1998, and 468 responses were analyzed. The consumer perception of the economic crisis(PCEP) scale was developed for the study. Correlation and regression analyses revealed: 1) the positive relationship between PCEP and consumer ethnocentrism(ETHN); 2) the positive effects of attitude toward foreign products(ATTI) on actual purchase of foreign products since the economic crisis(PB) and on purchase intention of foreign products(PI) for both clothing and cosmetics; 3) the negative effect of ETHN on PI for both product categories; and 4) the negative effects of PCEP on PB and PI for clothing.
Comport Sensation of Blue Jeans depending on Fiber Contents
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 237~248
The purpose of this study was to compare the comfort sensation depending on four different kinds of denim blue jeans: cotton, cotton/tencel, tencel, cotton/pp. The objective and subjective experiments were conducted to measure the comfort of blue jeans. To investigate the objective comfort, physical properties related to thermal insulation, moisture properties and hand were measured. For subjective comfort measurement, 5 healthy female college students were taken as subjects. The outcomes of the experiments are as follows: The higher the air permeability and bulk density of the denim, the lower the thermal insulation, the thicker the denim, the higher the thermal insulation. Tencel blending denim showed the higher bulk density, the lower air contents, and consequently the lower thermal insulation than the other denims. Tencel showed the highest moisture regain, and cotton/tencel blend showed the highest water vapor permeability. Tencel denim had relatively better flexibility, shape stability and elastic recovery than the other denims. The total hand values of the denims by KES-FB system were not significantly different. Cotton and cotton/pp denims raised the subjects body temperature after excercise more than tencel or cotton/tencel denims. Average skin temperature was found to have a correlation with micro climate temperature and micro climate humidity. The correlation coefficients were 0.749 and 0.767, respectively. However, average skin temperatures were not significantly different among the materials. Pulse rate was found to be the highest when wearing cotton/pp and the lowest in case of cotton/tencel denim. The energy was consumed in order of cotton>cotton/pp>tencel>cotton/tencel. There was no significant difference in preference before excercise, but, after the excercise, the order of preference changed as the following; cotton/tencel>tencel>cotton/pp>cotton.

A Research on The Actual Condition of Demining Suit Wearing
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 259~267
The purpose of this study is to find out the actual condition of demining suit wearing for developing a new demining suit. The existing clothes fro detecting or demining work are lack of security, activity, and comfort. Especially, the lack of protection on the limbs and the head, and the lack of protection of its own fabrics themselves are problems in security. Developing new demining suit should consider security, activity, and facility for putting on and off the clothes with comfort. And first of all, protection from the fragments should be considered. For the improvement of the activity, flexibility, lightness, and simplicity with suitable size with minimum bulk should be considered. In adjustment, the facility is more important than the strength and the newly developed material for protection need lightness, too.
Dyeing properties of silk fabric with pomegranate colorant
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 268~274
Dyeing properties of the colorants extracted from pomegranate hull on silk fabric were investigated. Pomegranate colorants were characterized by FT-IR analysis. Effects of dyeing condition and mordanting on dye uptake, color change and colorfastness were explored. Pomegranate colorants showed high affinity to silk fiber and its isotherm adsorption curve was Langmuir type. Therefore, ionic bond was involved in the adsorption of pomegranate colorants on to silk fiber. Mordants except Fe did not significantly increase dye adsorption. Pomegranate colorants produced mainly yellow color on silk fabric, but the silk mordanted with Fe showed yellow red color. Fastness to washing, perspiration, and rubbing was not improved by mordanting treatment, but light colorfastness was increased by Fe mordant.
A Study on the Traditional Wedding Costume of East Slav (XIX~Early XX Century)

Based on collected data the most optimum product size in each part by item were suggested. The method of suggesting the most optimum size suitability by item was decided based on the result of survey into corresponding title and product size by maker and that of survey into the size satisfaction degree of middle school girls by maker, and the product size of maker showing the highest size satisfaction degree was selected as the most optimum product size.
The Aspects of Sex Identity Expression in Contemporary Mens Fashion
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 327~338
The purpose of this thesis is to study the aspects of sex identity in the contemporary mens fashion expressed through sexual image and taste in the half of twentieth century. The aspects of sex identity expression in the contemporary mens fashion can be classified by image, that is, homosexual, heroic, bisexual, and fetish. 1. The homosexual image has shown the tendency to emphasize the masculinity since 1950.60s. It can be found in \"Cowboys costume\" which is typical of American traditional fashion, and jeans and underwear fashion expressed by muscular men has homosexual characteristics which contain narcissism. 2. Based on mens traditional gender role, the heroic image emphasizes mens physical characteristics and expresses tough and offensive masculine beauty in mens suit which is free from the authority and formality. 3. The bisexual image denied the division of gender role by costume and destroyed the traditional sex model by resolutely applying womens costume such as skirts to mens fashion. 4. The fetish image is similar to bisexual image in that they wear womens costume, but different in that it expresses sexual desire or fantasy. It is expressed through brilliant color, leather and metal ornaments, and sensual element of women which emphasizes \"body\". This shows the sex identity of contemporary men who want more sensible and free life.sible and free life.
Thermoregulation on Menstrual Cycle -Effects of Ambient Temperatures-
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 339~349
This study was investigated the effects of ambient temperatures and menstrual cycle on Resting Metabolic Rate(RMR), Rectal Temperature(Tre), Skin(forehead, chest, abdomen, forearm, hand, thigh, leg, foot) Temperatures, and subjective thermal sensations in 8 young Korean females(ages 22-25, voluntarily). The Tre and the Skin Temperatures were measured in once every five minute for one hour. RMR was measured three times at 30 minutes intervals by indirect calorimetry. All measurements were gathered during Luteal Phase(LP), Menstruation(M), and Follicular Phase(FP) at two levels of ambient temperatures; low(17~21
) and middle(21.1~
). LP were the highest values during FP and M in RMR, Tre, forehead temperature, chest temperature and abdomen temperature, while the leg(leg and foot) and arm(forearm and hand) temperatures were higher during FP rather than during LP at each ambient temperature. The downward curve of Tre in the experiment was larger during FP than LP. The values in subjective thermal sensations were most comfortable during LP than M and FP at each ambient temperature. The LP-FP differences in core and mean skin temperatures, and resting metabolic rate, were more significant at middle ambient temperatures than at low ambient temperatures.
The Sewability of polyurethane coated fabrics
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 2, 2001, Pages 350~357
In this study, seam strength, seam elongation and seam efficiency of polyurethane coated fabrics were examined under various sewing conditions using three kinds of fabrics, four kinds of sewing threads and three kinds of stitch lengths. And the sewability of polyurethane coated fabrics were evaluated by FAST system. The results were as follows: 1. Seam strength decreased with the increase of stitch length. The loop strength of sewing thread and the type of base fabric than the type of coated surface had an effect on seam strength. 2. Seam elongation also decreased with the increase of stitch length and was affected by the type of base fabric. The tensile elongation of polyurethans coated fabric had an effect on seam elongation. 3. Sean efficiency also was related to stitch length, the type of base fabric, and seam strength. The suitable seam efficiency was within 50%∼65% in which polyurethane coated fabric and sewing thread broke at the same time. Therefore PS thin and PPC thin sewing threads and 3mm stitch length were suitable to polyurethane coated fabrics. 4. The relaxation shrinkage(RS) of polyurethane coated fabric was smaller than the smallest value of control chart in FAST system. And the extensibility(E) and the shear rigidity(G) were larger than the largest value.
