A Study of the textiles for Hanbok since 1945 Liberation
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 868~879
The purpose of this study is to scan the textiles having been used for Hanbok since the 1945 Liberation. This paper states the situation of textile industry related to Hanbok. On the basis of this, the popularized textiles of each term and their characteristics are arranged. From 1945 to 1950, in the middle of disorder of this Liberation term, the clothing situation was very bad, so the majority of people wore clothing of Moomyung or Kwangmok. In the 50s, Moomyung, Kwangmok, Okyangmok, and Poplin were popularized. People could use more different kinds of textile then such as Chokyundan, Hobakdan, Newttong, Mobondan, Popdan, and Nylon. In the 60s, Chemical fibers, beginning to come in from the 50s, were their favorites, with which they made Hanbok and Western style dresses as well. Their characteristics were to have an cubic and ornamental effect on the surface. In the 70s, Yangdan, Newttong and other typical fabrics for Hanbok were manufactured with chemical fibers. they intended to give the ornamental effect by putting gold foil, embroidery, printing, and pictures on the surface of the fabrics. In the 80s, there were no seasonable fabrics for Hanbok during this term, as all-year-round fabric like Nobangzu was in common use. In the 90s, seasonable fabrics reappeared. Owing to the increasing interest in our typical fabrics like Mosi, Mobondan, and Hangra began to be in use again.

A Study on the UV-cut Properties of Cotton Fabrics Treated with UV-absorber
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 925~932
The influence of ultraviolet(UV)-ray in sun light on human skin has been noted. Textiles can provide protection against harmful UV-radiation. Normally UV-absorbing finishes are used to get better protection. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the UV-cut properties of cotton fabrics treated with UV-absorber. 2,2-dihydroxy-4,4-dimethoxbenzophenone, as UV-absorber was applied to 100% cotton fabric. Reagents added in finishing solution were Triton X-100, polyethylene glycol 400, and
, and C.I. Direct Red 81. Both untreated and treated cotton fabrics were exposed to a xenon arc lamp for 20 and 80 hours. UV absorption spectra of finishing solutions and UV transmission spectra of fabrics were measured by the UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Absorption and the related transmission spectra were modified in a controlled way with UV-absorber. Absorption effect of UV-absorber was improved by adding Triton X-100, PEG 400, and
in finishing solution. The UV absorption of finishing solution was in the following order: U/D/T/P/M>D/T/P/M> D/T> D/P, D>U/T/P/M>U/T>T/P/M>T. The UV transmittance of cotton fabrics was remarkably decreased by the application of UV-absorber and additives. The UV-cut properties were most improved by the application of U/D/T/P/M.
Service Dimensions of Apparel Product Salesperson and Importance of Service Dimension by Apparel Product Type
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 933~944
The purpose of this research was to classify service dimensions for each apparel product which was thought to be important to consumers and to examine what kind of service dimensions are assessed to be more important than others. Furthermore, whether there were significant differences in the service dimensions and importances of services dimensions were examined by apparel product type(casual, formal products). Data were collected from women who were over 20 years old that live in Seoul. A questionnaire developed based on the previous researches and data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, frequency analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, services of salesperson were divided into six dimensions: \"focused on customers\", \"knowledge/competency\", \"courtesy\", \"appearance/image\", \"purchasing induction\", and \"concerning\". As to service dimension importance, consumers think that \"service focused on customers\" is the most important dimension of service. Second, results of examining the importance according to apparel product type showed that five of the six service dimensions in formal product sales were more important except for the \"knowledge\" related service. Last, as to demographic characteristic variables, people who were over 40 years old were likely to think \"purchasing induction\", \"appearance/image\", \"concerning\" service dimensions more important than the other ages. And it was found that consumers who spend less money on purchasing clothing in a month thought \"focused on customers\" service was more important than the other consumers. In conclusion store managers could apply these results to service education of salesperson and use on preservation and improvement of customer relationship. And according to apparel product types, the results will give some implications to various service policies.
A Study on the Costume of the Gods in the Ancient Roman Myths
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 945~956
The costume for gods in the Ancient Roman myth was studied by examining in the embossed-carving, sculptures, mural-painting and various documents of the period. The clothes item, hairstyle, symbol & ornaments and shoes of the gods in the Roman myths were analyzed to understand the formative process in the religious costumes, and results are as follows. First, the costumes for male gods are the same as those for ordinary men lived in ages, including toga, paludamentum, tebenna, tunica. The costumes for female gods are also the same as those for ordinary women lived in ages, including stola, palla, tunica. Second, the hairstyle of male gods is short curled-hair, twisty roll-up hair and braid long-hair due to the influence of Etrurian in the early days. Another hairstyle is appeared in form of the laurelled-crown. The hairstyle of female gods is curled long-hair, chignon style and braid roll-up hair decorated with hairband. Third, the symbol & ornaments which represent the responsible possession of male gods, are appeared in beard, a stick of the message, arrow-case, offering-dish, antlered-glass, shield, spear-handle, as the superhuman forms, such as the lightning shape. For female gods they are is appeared plastron, a stick of the message, flower. some female gods wear necklace, foot-ring, bracelet. Fourth, male gods wear shoes in forms of sandal, buskin, boots, but all female gods are in barefoot. It could be explained by the fact that a man-centered society in the ancient roman is reflected in the world of gods. As mentioned, Gods costume in Roman myths was very similar to or nothing different from the ordinary peoples in Rome. However, they used corps, sacrifices or sepcific symbols depending on the fields that they were responsible for in order to be distinguished from the ordinary people. This is the result from the peoples expression that they should keep a close relationship with Gods hoping to be protected, and rely on them under whatever circumstances.

Virtuality in Fashion
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 981~990
The purpose of this study is to review the concept of virtuality and analyze in which way virtuality is expressed in fashion. As for the research methodology, literary research was undertaken to study psychoanalytical and socioeconomic contexts in which virtuality has been formed. In addition, demonstrative studies on styles were undertaken through the analysis of photos in modern fashion magazine. With the explosive diffusion of the Internet since the 1990s, people have created a new identity in cyber space. Indeed, computers have made it possible for human beings to make virtual bodies in any way they want. Through the experiment of creating the figures that they dreamed of in their childhood buy could not embody in their actual life, people are making up for their narcissistic ego of their childhood. With the advent of the cyber society, dreams have been realized in cyber space, which in turn has influenced reality and finally had an effect on fashion. In cyber space, People try to break away from their bodies by combining elements of a different nature from them. They are dying hair and skin, and using holographic fabric for fashion, metallic color and geometric pattern for cosmetics. In pursuit of omnipotent beings, people have depicted models as flying in a weightless state and floating in the water within dress of undefined silhouette, so that they can be shown as transcending the law of nature. Furthermore, a variety of cultures newly appearing as dominant in cyber space have constantly interacted with actual life and formed an collage of heterogeneous cultures in fashion.
Detergency of Fabrics with Changes of Mixed Soil Composition Ratio and Protease
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 25, issue 5, 2001, Pages 991~1001
This study has examined effects of protease on the removal of hemoglobin and triolein mixed soil with changes of soil content and soil composition from cotton and PET filament fabrics. The results obtained were as follows: The results obtained were as follows: 1) The detergency of PET fabrics was higher than that of cotton fabrics. The removal of hemoglobin was much higher than that of triolein from cotton fabrics, while the removal of hemoglobin was similar to that of triolein from PET fabrics. 2) The removal efficiency of hemoglobin and triolein was improved by protease from cotton and PET fabrics. Especially the removal efficiency of those was remarkably improved from cotton fabrics which the removal of soil was lower than PET fabrics. And the removal of hemoglobin and triolein by adding protease was increased with increase of hemoglobin content of mixed soil from cotton fabrics. 3) With the increase of hemoglobin content of mixed soil, the removal of hemoglobin was drastically increased but the removal of triolein was slightly decreased from cotton and PET fabrics. With the increase of triolein content of mixed soil, the removal of hemoglobin and triolein was decreased from cotton fabrics, but those were generally increased from PET fabrics.
