A Study on the Luster of Commercially Available Fabrics -Analysis of Images Acquired at Various Observing Angles-
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1117~1127
This paper is on the luster property of fertile fabric materials which is one of the important factors related to the development of clothing materials leading to the value-added products. Using several image analysis techniques, the optical properties, especially luster related ones, of the commercially available fabrics were measured and analyzed. The fabric samples included 6 kinds of preliminary experimental fabrics along with 22 kinds of fabric which were commercially available. The images acquired at various observing angles are taken by 44 Points and these Pictures are analyzed into luster through the image analysis program. The preliminary experiment demonstrated the effects of weave types and the number of yarn twist on the luster of the fabrics through the use of the image analysis program.
Consumers' Store Patronage Mix Behavior by Fashion Product type
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1128~1140
As consumers' alternatives in fashion store selection increase, they select different store types to purchase different product types. Therefore, the probability of patronage mix behavior according to product type increases. Understanding consumers patronage mix behavior, finding out the determinant attributes of fashion stores for each product type are important to retailers and marketers for building a successful merchandising and marketing strategies. Most of the previous researches in store selection and patronage assume consumer behavior as single store patronage, and thus relatively little is known about patronage mix behavior. Also, little attention has been given to product characteristics as an important variable in store patronage behavior. The purposes of this study were to determine the effects of product characteristics in consumers patronage mix behavior. In this study, a theoretical model including product characteristics as an intervening variable between store attributes and patronage behavior was developed. A Questionnaire was developed and data were collected form 464 adult women living in Seoul area in Korea. Factor analysis, paired t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and discriminant analysis were employed to analyze the data. As a result, the suggested model was partially verified. First, the product characteristic was found to have an effect on perceived importance of store attributes and on determinant attributes of stores. Consumers were found to use different evaluative criteria for store attributes when they purchase different product types. Second, the perceived importance of store attributes was determined by consumer characteristics as well as product characteristics. Third, the determinant attributes in store selection were affected not only by the perceived importance of store attributes but also by the type of product to be purchased.

Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1141~1152
This study examined the life style of Korean-Chinese co]loge students in YnBian region of China and analyzed the purchasing behavior of clothing according to the life styles. The sample consisted of 296 undergraduate students of the YanBian University in China. The Questionnaires were used to collect the data and the data were analyzed by Sequency, factor analysis, cluster analysis,
and ANOVA. The major results were as follows : 1) Results of factor analysis showed that life styles of the respondents could be classified into 5 factors: the ostentatious sense factor, positive activity factor, circumspective economy factor, self-repletion factor and information conformity factor. 2) The respondents were divided into five groups according to the life styles; active shoppers, conspicuous compulsives, economic planners, self indulgers, and conspicuous planners. 3) Evaluative criteria in purchasing clothing, information sources and store patronage, differed among the five consumer groups. Especially, the conspicuous planners group differed from other groups in al1 aspects. 4) Gender, major, income and allowance were not significantly different among the groups. But, there were more one-child respondent in the ostentatious planned group, while planned consumer group had more respondents who were not one-child in their families.

The analysis on general color preference, apparel color preference, and apparel possession color revealed that the cold colors such as blue and violet marked higher, and the warm colors such as yellow and orange marked lower in general color preference. For apparel color preference, neutral and brown were among the highest and the rest of the colors were in the same trend as general color preference. Apparel possession color showed defined accordance with apparel color preference. In terms of tones, pale tone marked the highest in general color preference and was followed by vivid, dull, and dark tones in decreasing order. For apparel color preference, pastel, dul1, and dark tones were among the highest. 2. Comparison between general color preference and apparel color preference in terms of hue showed that, except for orange, every hue showed disagreement in general color preference and apparel color preference. Production Line Planning for Functional Sports Wear using Simulation Model
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1205~1215
The purpose of this study was to develop a production line using simulation method, which could improve work allocation, labor utility and productivity. Using simulation software AIM, a simulation model of functional sports wear assembly line was developed. A functional sports wear production factory were analysed to gather data necessary for this research. Factory layouts, production facilities, work time of each unit jobs were investigated. The data obtained were used as to build a base simulation model. Then, the base simulation model was verified using the obtained data, such as daily productivity. Using simulation method, low alternative production plans were suggested, which were to enhance productivity, and work efficiency and to reduce queue length and throughput time.

Dyeabilities of Lac Extract onto the Silk and Wool Fabrics
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1248~1253
Coocus laccae(Laccifer lacca Kerr), usually known as Lac, is a kind of cocoon which is parasitic on the tree around India and China. It contains the laconic acid of red colored dyes and has been used for cosmetic or natural dyeing prior to the introduction of New World cochineal. Nevertheless, the characterization of lac has not been studied, very little informed. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of dyeing conditions fur Lac extract, such as pH of dye bath, concentration of Lac exact dyeing temperature and time, to find out the optimum conditions. The results were as follow. 1. The highest K/S values of the silk and wool was shown at PH 3 and PH 4. 2. K/S values of the silk came to nearly the adsorption equilibrium state at 40
and the curve of wool showed a dramatic increase with the increase of temperature. 3. Dyed silk and wool fabrics showed good light fastness without using mordants.

The Comparative and Analytic Study on Clothing Construction Area in the Contents of High School Home Economics Textbooks
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 26, issue 8, 2002, Pages 1274~1285
The purposes of this study are to help the authorized textbooks on home economics be selected and used effectively, to provide basic data that are needed to improve the quality of home economics textbooks, and to suggest a next curriculum on home economics. In the study, eight high school home economics textbooks for "6th Curriculum developed by Ministrv of Education and Human Resources Development"were used for the analysis. The results are summarized as follows: there were wide differences in degrees of diversity and accomplishment in the contents of textbooks. In comparison, it was unfolded that three areas, "family", "home resource management" and "consumer" ,occupied much larger portions than other areas. About 81 percent of the authors of home economics textbooks were professors. A contents analysis on the clothing area showed that every textbook includes costume culture, clothing materials, clothing maintenance, and clothing construction. The presentation coverages and relative difficulties of textbooks were, however, diverse. It is somewhat noticeable that, while fewer professors majoring in clothing construction participated in writing, generally more pages were allocated to clothing construction than other areas. While presentations on anthropometrics method, construction theory, draft theory, usage of sewing machine and fitting theory were insufficient most textbooks were dealing with drafting of basic slopers and sewing procedure, etc. Making-up techniques on the apparels items such as Korean traditional men's pants, pajamas, shirt vest skirt, pants, apron and Korean pouch were handled closely in each textbook.
