Effects of Entertainment Service on Impulse Buying Behavior of Apparels -Comparing with Department Stores and Shopping Malls-
Park, Eun-Joo ; Park, Jung-Shin ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1333~1343
Consumers seek the pleasure, fun and satisfaction in shopping. Retailing environments of apparel products are rapidly changing than ever before. One of there changes are offered apparel products with entertainment service, such as theaters, restaurants and so on. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of entertainment service, shopping orientation and emotion on impulse buying behavior in department stores an shopping malls. A self-administrated questionaire was developed based on the results of previous researches and pre-test. Data were obtained from shoppers(N=684) randomly selected in department stores and shopping malls located in Seoul and Busan. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, cross analysis, and path analysis. The results showed that; impulse buying behavior was directly or indirectly affected by shopping orientation in both of two store types. In department stores, consumers were affected to make a good mood by entertainment service while, in the shopping malls, consumers were influenced directly by entertainment service to be a good mood and to purchase impulsively apparel products. Therefore, the impulse buying behavior was influenced differently by entertainment service in store types. From the retailer's perspective, they give insights into the development of strategies utilized to marketing planning of entertainment service in each store types.

Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1344~1353
The purpose of this research is to investigate the actual wearing conditions of working uniform and identify problems for the aircraft mechanic. For this study, questionnaire surveys were conducted dividing according to styles of clothing; one-piece and two-piece styles. Subjects were 343 men working in flight line. Questionnaire of 159 two-piece styles and 184 one-piece ones were used in analysis. The results of the study are as follows; The result about wearing each type of working uniform showed that the two-piece one is always as the air force uniform, whereas the one-piece one is worn only a few times. They felt inconvenience during all operations except in the sitting position, crawling position, and positions in which they were using tools. Accordingly, the result of the functionality reported dissatisfaction on all question items. Therefore, uniform of two-piece style achieved better results on all questions related to motional flexibility and functionality. Questions on changes to finishing methods showed that each airline employed different methods for both two-pieced and one-pieced uniforms. The answers about the unstitched or worn-out parts of the two-piece garments showed that pants were unstitched on the inner seam of the trouser leg and hip regions, but the upper one was not. In case of the one-pieced uniform, the parts of wearing out is the seam of hip and the unstitched parts are knee region and hem line of pants. Questions concerning their satisfaction with the material of uniforms indicated a high rate of dissatisfaction, particularly in its ventilation and absorbency. Questions concerning the preferred design of working uniform indicated a preference for two-piece uniform rather than one-piece ones.

Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1354~1365
China has a big potential as an apparel market due to its rapid economic growth. In the fashion industry, great attention has been paid to China. However, analysis of competitiveness has received relatively little attention from fashion scholarship. This study attempts to apply the double diamond model to analyze the international competitiveness of the apparel industry of China as well as of Korea. The purpose of this study is 1) to establish diamond model components in the fashion industry for Korea and China respectively, and 2) to compare the established diamond models(i.e., double diamond model, multinational diamond model) between Korea and China. Finally we suggested a marketing strategy based on the results of the double diamond model application. To build a diamond model for each country intensive literature review were conducted and additionally quantitative data were collected from 31 merchandisers and managers. We found that the domestic diamond of China was larger than Korea's, but firm strategy, structure and rivalry condition of Korea were more competitive than China's. Secondly, regarding the international diamond, China was more competitive, and especially had more the larger factor condition than Korea confirming that Korea was less competitive than China. This article provides a theoretical background and empirical findings for the competitiveness model of the fashion industry.

Oh, Song-Yun ; Choi, Hei-Sun ; Yi, Kyong-Hwa ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1378~1388
We conducted a questionnaire survey of 481 Korean female college students and measured anthropometrically 2 girth of their bodies(bust, under bust girth) in order to understand the psychological needs about brassiere and the physical characteristics of consumers aged between 19 and 25(the 1924 generation). There were two major problems to be solved to improve the fit of brassiere in aspect of size. First, most brands for this age group aimed at product differentiation mainly on visual design not on brassiere size. According to the body measurements, the distribution of brassiere size had 6 sections '70AA, 70A, 70B, 75AA, 75A and 75B cups' showing a rate of 63.8% but most brands for this age group were producing '75A, 80A, 85A, 75B, 80B and 85B cups' showing a rate of 24.7%. Second, most subjects of this survey didn't know their own breast size and the sizing system of brassiere which are necessary in order to select the proper brassiere size. And most subjects were wearing a bigger size brassiere than their own body size even though one was in the range of '75A, 80A, 85A, 75B, 80B and 85B'. It might be possible that the dimensions of brassiere products in the market and the sizes indicated on the labels do not correspond. For increasing the consumer satisfaction it is necessary to adjust the production rate of brassiere sizes and to develop ergonomic brassiere products with proper dimensions and shapes for each brassiere size.

Park, Eun-Joo ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1413~1422
Technologies such as television shopping channels and the internet expand consumers' impulse purchasing opportunities. The interest in national differences of consumer behavior was growing and highlighted the importance of understanding the national context of consumer behavior in an increasing globalized marketplace. The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying for Korean and American young consumers, and to compare the differences between two groups. A questionnaire was developed from literatures reviewed. Data were obtained from students attending universities in Korea(N=413) and the U.S.(N=290). Using structural equation modeling, the results indicated that the proposed model of this study was appropriate to explain the effects of fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying for Korean and American young consumers. The model showed that fashion involvement and hedonic consumption played important roles in triggering impulse buying for two groups. In addition, American consumers were more likely to influence fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying than Korean consumers. The results provided some insights into globalized retail marketing theory supporting the national aspects of impulse buying. Future research and managerial implications are addressed.

Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1464~1475
This thesis is purported to contemplate glamour look reflected in fashion history, thereby to establish the styles of glamour expressed in fashion trends and to provide the categorical basis of fashion design. For such purposes, this thesis first provides the historical survey on the glamour look in fashion, and to conduct a case study by conducting survey of fashion photographs captured in an internet site called Firsview(www.firstview.com) during most recent ten-year period covering
design products presented by ten leading Italian designers. Based upon the historical survey, there are four representative styles in glamour looks, including (1) luxury glamour, (2) hyperfeminine glamour, (3) kitsch glamour, and (4) romantic glamour. Luxury glamour looks were most often utilized by fashion designs of Valentino and Armani, which can be characterized by frequent usage of glittering details intended to emphasize the surface decoration. Hyperfeminine glamour looks were characterized by the frequent usage of black color in an effort to create fetish atmosphere or sensuality, which can be discovered from the fashion designs of Versace, Cavalli and Ferre. Kitsch glamour looks were characterized by the appropriation of details of vulgar subcultural features mixed with strong color combinations and ethnic trimmings. Versace, Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana were the main designers of kitsch glamour looks. Finally, romantic glamour looks, which were mainly expressed by Valentine, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace, were characterized by nostalgia and luxury with light colors and materials such as lace and transparent fabrics.

Third, Tuxedo-Look suggests a dismantling point of view such as exaggeration, distortion, secession, and breaking from the convention. Tuxedo-Look expresses uncertain value by breaking up the symbolic valueby coordinating with casual items and denies formal construct of tuxedo such as perfect balance, symmetrical silhouette, formality, totality.
The Effects of Scouring on Mechanical Properties and Appearance of Iyocell -NaOH Scouring vs. Enzymatic Scouring -
Park, Ji-Yang ; Kim, Ju-Hea ; Jeon, Dong-Won ; Park, Young-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, volume 30, issue 9_10, 2006, Pages 1485~1493
This study was to investigate the effect of different scouring methods on mechanical properties and appearance of lyocell. Two different scouring methods were adopted for the study; one was the traditional scouring with alkali and the other was enzymatic scouring. Enzymatic scouring was carried with four different enzymes; C1 : Cellusoft L, C2 : Cellusoft UL, D1 : Denimax 992L, D2 : Denimax Acid XCL. The mechanical properties of scoured lyocell were measured using KES-FB. The appearance of scoured samples was analyzed by 3D CAD SYSTEM of i-Designer. While the untreated fabric showed the best linearity because it is stiff, alkali treated samples showed the worst dimensional stability and distorted easily. Enzyme treated samples, especially C1 treated samples showed the best dimensional stability. In addition, enzyme treated samples showed low bending rigidity compared to the alkali treated samples. It means that the enzyme treated samples are more flexible than alkali treated samples. However, the smoothness of the sample's surface treated by either of methods did not show much difference. From the study, it was suggested that the enzymatic scouring for lyocell could help to gain natural silhouette.
