Development of Cooling Garment for Extremely Hot Environment Using a Peltier Device and its Comfort Properties

This paper reports on a prototype cooling garment applying a cooling module. The cooling module was composed of a Peltier device, a cold sink, a heat sink and two fans. A constant box was used to evaluate the cooling effect of the module. Two cooling modules were attached on each side of the garment. The wear trial was conducted using 10 male subjects in an environmental chamber maintained at
RH. Subjective sensations of thermal, humidity, and comfort were surveyed. Statistical package SPSS12.0 was used for the t-test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that most effective cooling module decreased the temperature of the constant temperature box by
. The micro-temperature of the cooling garment with a Peltier device was lower than the control garment during the exercise. In particular, the chest skin temperature was
lower with the cooling garment than the control. The maximum temperature difference was
on the sides of the
layer. Subjective thermal sensation from wear trials of the Peltier device attached garment was lower than the control garment. Subjects felt more comfortable with the cooling garment in almost all the periods.
Party Wear Industry Conditions in Korea and the Analysis of Dress Style According to Party Types

Young people have got to like `party` and `attending parties` is considered `reflection of trendy lifestyle` nowadays. The more party experiences they have, the more party wear styles get various and detail. They want different styles for the next party and it stimulates designers to create something new. We now realize that the party has become popular with an increased market demand for party wear. In addition, we analyze dress styles according to party types to suggest a new dress style to satisfy consumer needs. We suggest two ways to research party wear industry conditions in Korea. Off-line shop managers need to offer practical and various designs for a good price according to party types that make distinctions between on-line and off-line shops. On-line shop managers need to use better materials and develop better service. Considering an analysis of dress style according to party types, an elegant style is good for a formal dinner party and an evening party. A romantic style is good for a season party (such as a New Year`s party, a Valentines party and a Christmas party) and a chic style is good for a music party (such as a classic party, jazz party and pop-era party). In addition, the result of a dress style analysis according to party types can be used for the tip for the development of designs to come in the party wear market as well as for a dress style guide to the partiers.
Content Analysis of Articles of Korean Fashion in Domestic and Foreign Fashion Journals

This study locates typical Korean fashion images in domestic and foreign fashion journals to advance Korea`s international image in contemporary global fashion markets. The investigation of the frequency of articles and their types (so as to inquire into interest in Korean fashion in the global fashion markets) showed that for the appearance frequency of domestic articles studied, a good number of articles were published in the first half of 2008 and in 2009. In the case of foreign articles, the number of them increased from the second half of 2008 and the majority of articles were shown in the first half of 2010. Second, the investigation of the appearance features by article type studied in order to understand how Korean fashion played a role in the world`s markets. The majority of articles were related to fashion brands that entered Chinese market in fashion brand articles in the case of domestic articles; however, many foreign articles introduced designers that participated in global fashion collections in Paris and New York. Third, as a result of analyzing typical key words by article type in order to find key words which could enhance Korea`s fashion national image representing, we could confirm that `Korean designers` can be a typical key words to represent Korean fashion. The key word most exposed in both domestic and foreign articles was `designer Lie Sang Bong` and only his articles contained the content about influential Korean design materials.
A Study on Intention to Use and Word-of-mouth for Fashion Social Network Service

This study locates factors that affect the intention to use fashion SNS (social network service) and intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Independent variables were fashion shopping orientation, attitude toward innovative products, fashion leadership, and demographics. A questionnaire method was used to collect data on college students while factor analyses, multiple regression,
analyses, and Pearson correlation coefficients were applied in analyzing data. Factor analyses resulted in four factors for fashion shopping orientation, three on attitude toward innovative products and two on fashion leadership. Multiple regression analyses showed that information compatibility of attitude toward innovative products had a significant impact on two models of intention to use fashion SNS and two models of intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Opinion leadership and gender were significant factors for two models of intention to use fashion SNS, which means that women are likely to have more intention to use fashion SNS. Meanwhile, fashion innovativeness was found to be a significant factor on two models of intention for word-of-mouth on fashion SNS. Shopping orientation factors were not important for any model.
analyses showed that women rather than men wanted more information on online fashion shows, general fashion information, and user participation programs. Fashion major students wanted more information on online fashion shows and user participation programs than non-fashion major students.
Wearing Conditions of Protective Clothing and Protective Gear for FMD Prevention

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is highly contagious and highly lethal to cloven-hoofed animals. In the winter of 2010, an outbreak of FMD in Korea caused a great deal of economic damage as well as serious mental and physical damage to people who participated in preventive activities. This study provides preliminary data for designing safe and functional protective clothing and gear for individuals who participate in FMD preventive activities. This study was accomplished with multilateral methods such as a documentary survey, field trips, sample analysis of protective clothing and gear, questionnaire studies and focus interviews. As a result, we found that most workers wore low-priced protective clothing that was low in safety functions and rarely wore extra protective gear. Also pointed out was dissatisfaction with: protective clothing and gear, problems related to damage, discomfort, contamination, problems in protective gear related to waterproof functions, protection against harmful substances, discomfort, coldness, and damage. Safe protective clothing could be developed that protects the actual wearers if these results are reflected in the improvement of protective clothing and gear.
Antecedents and Consequences of Trust and Commitment in Apparel Manufacturer-Contractor Relationships

This research investigates the effect of the antecedents (i.e. specific investment, opportunistic behavior, communications, uncertainty, interdependence, power imbalance, shared value, and flexibility) that influence the trust and commitment of domestic apparel manufacturers toward contractors as well as the effect of trust and commitment on firm performance and relationship satisfaction. A total of 128 apparel manufactures participated in this study. Factor analysis, Cronbach`s alpha coefficient, and path analysis were conducted for the statistical analysis. Specific investment, communication, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on trust; however, opportunistic behavior had a negative effect. Interdependence, shared value, and flexibility had a positive effect on commitment; however, power imbalance and uncertainty had a negative effect. Trust did not exert an effect on commitment in this research; however, trust and commitment had a positive effect on firm performance; in addition, trust and commitment had a positive effect on relationship satisfaction. The findings offer insight on how to better manage apparel manufacturer-contractor relationships to ensure success.
A Study to Suggest Korean Fashion Design Education Model for a Creative Fashion Design -Focus on Comparative Case Studies in the USA, Europe, and Korea-

This study suggests a Korean fashion design education model through a comparison of the fashion design curriculum and education systems in the USA, Europe, and Korea. For this, a case study of fashion design curriculum and education systems in the USA was performed with literature reviews about education methodology and design process to develop creativity, following the prior study, A Comparative Study on Fashion Design in Europe and Korea. For the case study, 12 superior fashion design education institutions in the USA were chosen from fashionista (N.Y.) and the goals, the emphases, the constitution of the online curriculum of each undergraduate fashion design course were examined. As a result of this study, Korean fashion design education model (1+2.5+0.5 model), was proposed by integrating the education systems of the USA and Europe, as follow: First, Korean fashion design education institutions need to be characterized and the departments/majors should be gradually specialized by the major. Second, foundation courses prior to undergraduate courses or during the 1st year should be established to result in a multi- disciplinary basic education. Third, a project based major needs to be performed that connects fashion design subjects with their related subjects for 2 and a half years as of the
year. These projects can be progressed by problem-solving design process of problem-identification and brainstorming-research, analysis-design concept-design ideation, selection-design development, implementation-critical evaluation and solutions. Fourth, collaborative projects or integrated courses with related Liberal Arts or other art and design majors should lead to muliti-discilplinary education. Fifth, the chance of increased active industry-academy collaboration and actual employment or enterprise can be facilitated by the establishment of only the courses related to domestic or international internships during the

Children`s Wear Purchasing Behavior by Retired Women and the Missy Group with a View to their Shopping Orientation

This study examines the children`s wear purchasing behavior of younger generation women (the missy group) and in the new-silver generation (retired). The data collected in the study were examined with a view to establish effective marketing strategies within the children`s wear market, a market where the age and characteristics of the actual purchasers of the products have become more diverse. A descriptive survey method using a self-administered questionnaire was employed. The sample consisted of 398 females between the ages of 28 and 64 residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi-do area. Data collected were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and Cronbach`s alpha coefficients. Respondents were classified into 4 groups by their clothes shopping orientation: conformable/brand conscious purchasing type, planned purchasing/enjoy shopping type, store/brand loyal impulse-oriented type, and dependent/low shopping interest type. There were differences between the missy and the new- silver generations under consideration. It is clear from the study that, even though some individuals of the missy group and of new-silver group belonged to the same shopping orientation type, individuals still showed differences with regard to children`s wear purchasing behavior.
Korean Dress Collection of the Horniman Museum in London

This paper investigates the formative features and the historical meaning of the Korean dress collection held in the Horniman Museum in London. The Museum holds eighteen items of Korean dresses donated by Mrs. C. de J. Luxmore in 1948 and by Mrs. Bowra in 1953. Male dresses consist of white silk outer robe (durumagi), a pale violet silk waistcoat (jokki), a jade green silk jacket (jeogori), pale yellow silk trousers (baji), a pair of ankle bands (daenim), a cotton waistband (dae), a silk purse (jumeoni), a rattan under-vest (deungbaeja), a pair of rattan wristlets (deungtosi), a top hat (gat) and a skullcap (tanggeon). Female dresses comprise a jade green silk jacket (jeogori), an ivory silk skirt (chima), a light blue silk petticoat (sokchima), two kinds of white cotton trousers (sokbaji and soksokgot), a pair of silk wristlets (tosi) and a pair of padded socks (beoseon). A Korean dress collection of the Horniman Museum shows a set of ordinary dress items worn by a married couple in the 1930s and the 1940s. Of these items, a silk petticoat (sokchima) and a rattan under-vest (deungbaeja) can be highly evaluated as object resources in the history of Korean dress. The petticoat is a rare and valuable example that represents an early type of modern petticoat that has replaced a traditional petticoat (dansokgot). The rattan under-vest has square neckline and two tiny sleeves similar to a Western cap sleeve. This kind of under-vest is a transitional form shown between under-vest similar to the Korean waistcoat (baeja) and one similar to the Western waistcoat (jokki).
An Analysis of The Preferred Ease of Torso Sloper by Body Size

This study researches the preferred ease of torso sloper according to body sizes and drop. For this, the eases of main body parts such as chest circumference, waist circumference, hip circumference, biacromion length, and waist back length were analysed; in addition, the drop differences of body and pattern were explored to find out characteristics of silhouette changes. The subjects were 55 women in their early 20s (aged from 20 to 24) and individual torso block made with muslin was corrected 1-3 times by a personal fitting. There were 3 meaningful results. First, the preferred ease were individually various; however, the eases of all torso blocks should be same at the pattern making step. Second, the eases were also significantly different among body size groups and the bigger group preferred less ease at the biacromion length, waist back length, armhole-depth, chest circumference, and waist circumference. Third, the eases of chest circumference and hip circumference were significantly changed among drop groups. To change their body drop, H-shape drop adopted less ease at chest circumference and more ease at hip circumference; however, A-shape drop adopted more ease at chest circumference and less ease at hip circumference.
