The Measurements of Data Accuracy and Error Detection in DEM using GRASS and Arc/Info

The issue of data accuracy brings a different perspective to the issue of GIS modeling, calls into a question the usefulness of data models such as DEM. Accuracy can be determined by randomly checking positional and attribute accuracy within a GIS data layer. With the increasing availability of DEM and the software capable of processing them, it is worthwhile to call attention for data accuracy and error analysis as GIS application depends on the priori established spatial data. The purpose of this paper was to investigate methods for data accuracy measurement and error detection methodology with two types of DEM's: 1 to 24,000 and 1 to 250,000 DEM released by U.S. Geological Survey. Another emphasis was given to the development of methodology for processing DEM's to create Arc/Info and GRASS layers. Data accuracy analysis with DEM was applied to a 250 sq.km area and an error was detected at a scale of 1:24,000 DEM. There were two possible reasons for this error: gross errors and blunders.
Construction, Search of Ground Control Point Database and its Application for Satellite Image Correction

This paper presents a method of construction and re-use of a GCP database for precision geometric correction of high resolution satellite images. Accurate geometric correction can be achieved by using accurate GCPs. The GCP information which is extracted from maps or other sources is saved in a database in conjunction with the corresponding image chips. The usage of the GCPs from the database gives reusability and efficiency in marking new GCPs. An image matching algorithm was developed to determine the corresponding positions between an image chip and a new image. The proposed technique can save time in the regular operation of satellite image preprocessing by propagating the pre-determined GCPs to the new image correction.
Development of Campus Facility Management System using GIS - Focused on Kyungpook National University -

This paper, deals with the developmental result of university facility management system using GIS, is to explain the developmental process of this system and the merits and the faults of GIS facility management system. Facility management, as a discipline, is the practice of coordinating the people and the work of an organization into the physical workplace. According to rising costs for the facility management and effective management for the existing facility, the organization need to optimize the use of existing facilities and equipment to prevent unnecessary investments in facilities and equipment. The purpose of this study is to build GIS based university facility management system using GIS. Based on 1/5,000 from national geography institute and 1/600 map, we construct base map for study and, using genasys genius program, we made facility management system. This system includes geographic management, infrastructure management and building management, and, using each attribute information, it is possible to use not only for effective management for existing facilities but also available to future decision making.
A Study on Circulation and Management of Spatial Data

This paper describes difficulties for the producer's distribution and the user's acquisition of the spatial data because the circulation of them is complicated according to its kind in Korea. The way to overcome these difficulties would be to develop the clearing house system to incorporate GIS technology on Internet. This research proposes the problem statement, the architecture, and the operating environment of the system. The system contains the functions such as metadata generation, metadata registration, metadata version management, catalogue creation and update, reports generation, forms processing, metadata search, payments, GIS information pool, and spatial data browsing.
A Study of the Census, Digital Maps, and GIS Applications of the Census Data for Urban and Environmental Analysis

The purpose of this study is to find out the ways to supplement the Census, the digital maps, and their integration in comparison with the U.S. Census and the TIGER file and in light of their usefulness for urban and environmental analysis in Korea. Recommendations in this study are: (1) to include questions on household income and housing price in the Census, (2) to implement a 1~5% sampling survey similar to PUMS in the U.S. Census, (3) to make the Census Tract as a minimum size unit of analysis through subdivision of current Eup, Myon, and Dong into 5~10 smaller units, and (4) to utilize the 1:5,000 scale digital maps completed by the Korea National Geographic Institute for the fast and efficient activation of digital maps instead of producing 1:1,000 or 1:1,200 scale digital maps through each city's effort.
Construction and Evaluation of Bank Marketing Database using Geographic Information Systems

Using GIS, this study constructs and evaluates a bank marketing system. The study collects a marketing GIS database case from the Daegu Bank, which is one of the leading local banks in Korea. The database includes spatial data such as digital road map, internal and external attribute data which are combined for the construction of bank marketing database. Based on these data, the study developed an interface which enables searching and analysing functions of bank GIS marketing system. For the development of the interface, this study examined the basic concepts of area marketing and its development and utilized Map/Info as a basic GIS software package and Delphi as computer language. Finally, the study makes a comprehensive evaluation of various problems of spatial and attribute data which occurred in the process of constructing the bank marketing database.
The Relationships between Information Systems Implementation Performance and User Attitude, User Education and Training - Focused on Corporation D -

This study intends to identify the effects of user attitude, user education & training on the information systems implementation performance. In order to obtain data, survey questionnaires were distributed to the users of 'D' company, the major findings can be summarized as follows. First, it's suggested from the analyses that user attitude and user education & training independently have statistically significant effects on information systems implementation performance. Second, it's revealed that even though the interaction effects by both user attitude and user education & training have positive effects on the level of usage, but have no statistically significant effects on satisfaction level. Based on these results, it's recommended to convert user attitude favorably toward user environment and to increase the level of user education & training, in order to promote information systems implementation performance. Especially, differentiated user education & training are highly recommended.
Objective Estimation of the Maximum Wind Position in Typhoon using the Cloud Top Temperature Analysis of the Satellite TBB Data

In order to provide an information as input data of possible storm surges in advance, the typhoon center and maximum wind position analysis scheme must be developed for the initialization of pressure and wind field.This study proposes a semi-automatical and objective analysis method and a procedure on a real time basis using the satellite TBB data of the GMS IR1, NOAA satellite CH4 and CH5, and shows the result of an experimental analysis. It includes a simple method of determining the parameters of the typhoon using minimum top temperature of the convective cloud near the inner eyewall. The method analyzing the isotropic cross sectional variation of TBB gradient from center to environment was developed to determine the center of Rmax of typhoon. This position of intense eyewall from typhoon center can be considered as the position of maximum wind. The results of estimation of typhoon center show very good agreement to the results of synoptic analysis. It is found that the Rmax is approximately 50-200km. From the comparison of the GMS and NOAA IR TBB data, it is found that the Rmax from NOAA data tends to be longer than those from GMS data.
The Application of Satellite Data to Land Surface Process Parameterization in ARPS Model

In order to represent the surface characteristics in local meteorological model, soil type, vegetation index, surface roughness length, surface albedo and leaf area index should be prescribed on the surface process parameterization. In this study, the
area index, surface roughness length, and snow free surface albedo and fine mesh NDVI with seasonal variation derived from the satellite observation were applied to the land surface process parameterization. From comparison between with and without satellite data in the interactions between biosphere and atmosphere, land and atmosphere, the sensitivity of the simulated heat, energy and water vapor fluxes, ground temperature, wind, canopy water content, specific humidity, and precipitation fields were investigated.
A Study on the Application of IHS Transformation Technique for the Enhancement of Remotely Sensed Data Classification

To obtain new information using a single remotely sensed image data is limited to extract various information. Recent trends in the remote sensing show that many researchers integrate and analyze many different forms of remotely sensed data, such as optical and radar satellite images, aerial photograph, airborne multispectral scanner data and land spectral scanners. Korean researchers have not been using such a combined dataset yet. This study intended to apply the technique of integration between optical data and radar data(SAR) and to examine the output that had been obtained through the technique of supervised classification using the result of integration. As a result, we found of better enhanced image classification results by using IHS conversion than by using RGB mixed and interband correlation.
