Acquisition of 3D Spatial Data for Indoor Environment by Integrating Laser Scanner and CCD Sensor with IMU

3D data are in great demand for pedestrian navigation recently. For pedestrian navigation, we needs to reconstruct 3D model in detail from people's eye. In order to present spatial features in detail for pedestrian navigation, it is indispensable to develop 3D model not only in outdoor environment but also in indoor environment such as underground shopping complex. However, it is very difficult to acquire 3D data efficiently by mobile mapping without GPS. In this research, 3D shape was acquired by Laser scanner, and texture by CCD(Charge Coupled Device) sensor. Continuous changes position and attitude of sensors were measured by IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit). Moreover, IMU was corrected by relative orientation of CCD images without GPS(Global Positioning System). In conclusion, Reliable, quick, and handy method for acquiring 3D data for indoor environment is proposed by a combination of a digital camera and a laser scanner with IMU.
Landscape Analysis of the Forest Fragmentations at Doam-Dam Watershed using the FRAGSTATS Model

The Doam-dam watershed, located at Kangwon Province, Korea, has been experiencing significant changes in land uses, conversion from forest to agricultural/urban areas, with human involvements. However, no thorough investigation of the landscape impacts of land use changes was performed at this watershed using the scientific analytical tool. Thus, the FRAGSTATS model was utilized to quantitatively analyze the landscape impacts of forest fragmentation in this study. To provide the detailed explanations for 11 landscape indices considered in this study, two artificial and simplified landscapes, before and after fragmentations, were constructed. Using these 11 indices, the landscape impacts of forest fragmentation in 19 subwatersheds of the Doam-dam watershed were analyzed. The S1 subwatershed, one of 19 subwatersheds of the Doam-dam watershed, was found to have experienced the significant forest fragmentation from 1985 to 2000 based on landscape analysis using the FRAGSTATS model. The results obtained in this study can be used to evaluate the water quality impacts of forest fragmentations/land use changes at watershed scale level, and establish environment-friendly land use planning based on the results obtained using landscape analytical tool, FRAGSTATS.
Drought Assessment of Agricultural District using Modified SWSI

The purpose of this study is to assess agricultural drought using modified SWSI(Surface Water Supply Index) in Ango and Anseo agricultural district. Precipitation, reservoir inflow and storage data were used for input data of modified SWSI. Precipitation data was obtained from KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) and reservoir storage data was obtained from KARICO(Korea Agricultural & Rural Infrastructure Corporation) and reservoir inflow data was simulated by SLURP(Simple LUmped Reservoir Parametric). SWSI based agricultural drought index was evaluated for the period of 1983 and 2001. As results, for the drought periods(July-1994, June-1995, May-2001) agricultural drought indices represented extremely drought states. The result was compared with PDSI and SWSI and checked the applicability of the suggested index in our agricultural drought situation.
Development of Road Surface Management System using Digital Imagery

In the study digital imagery was used to examine asphalt concrete pavements. With digitally mastered-image information that was filmed with a video camera fixed on a car travelling on road at a consistent speed, a road surface management system that can gain road surface information (Crack, Rutting, IRI) was developed using an object-oriented language "Delphi". This system was designed to improve visualized effects by animations and graphs. After analyzing the accuracy of 3-D coordinates of road surfaces that were decided using multiple image orientation and bundle adjustment method, the average of standard errors turned out to be 0.0427m in the X direction, 0.0527m in the Y direction and 0.1539m in the Z direction. As a result, it was found to be good enough to be put to practical use for maps drawn on scales below 1/1000, which are currently producted and used in our country, and GIS data. According to the analysis of the accuracy in crack width on 12 spots using a digital video camera, the standard error was found to be
, which is considered as high precision. In order to get information on rutting, the physically measured cross sections of 4 spots were compared with cross sections generated from digital images. Even though a maximum error turned out to be 10.88mm, its practicality is found in work efficiency.
A Preliminary Study of the Global Application of HAZUS and ShakeMap for Loss Estimation from a Scenario Earthquake in the Korean Peninsula

Efficiency and limitations of HAZUS-MH, a GIS based systematic and informative system developed by FEMA and NIBS for natural hazard loss estimations, are discussed by means of a pilot study in the Korean Peninsula. Gyeongsang-do has been selected for the test after careful reviews of previous studies including historical and modern seismicity in the peninsula. A ShakeMap for the selected scenario earthquake with magnitude 6.7 in Gyeongju area is prepared. Then, any losses due to the scenario event have been estimated using HAZUS. Results of the pilot test show that the study area may experience significant physical, economic, and social damages. Detailed study in the future will provide efficient and crucial information to the decision makers and emergency agents to mitigate any disaster posed by natural hazards.
The Demand Survey and Correlational Analysis for Geological Data

In general, the importance of geological information is emphasized not only for national SOC construction, underground space development and energy resources development but also in areas related to environmental disasters such as mine damage, ground subsidence and landslides. Although geological information is highly useful in developing industrial raw materials, national land management and people's welfare, there is no unified governmental institution in charge of collecting and managing geological information in the national level. For this, this paper study: first, to analyze geological demand for common experts; second, to analyze geological demand for public institution; and third, to set priority for geological informatization. In the result of surveying demand for geological information, we need to improve laws and systems for collecting and reporting geology-related materials, making thematic maps, and maintaining and managing geological information we need to establish national strategies and build an integrated system for interoperability of databases and systems. Accordingly, we will guideline on future direction of strategies for the national integration of geological information management system.
Network Modeling of Paddy Irrigation System using ArcHydro GIS - ANGO Agricultural Water District -

Network modeling of irrigation system that links irrigation facilities with stream is necessary to establish complicated rural water management system and to manage agricultural water effectively. This study attempted a network modeling for an agricultural water district called "ANGO" located in Anseongcheon watershed by connecting ArcHydro Model developed to control geographical information data in the field of water resources and AWDS(Agricultural Water Demand & Supply Estimation System) developed by KRC (Korea Rural Community & Agriculture Corporation). Network modeling was embodied by build topology between spatial objects of total 70 agricultural irrigation facilities (24 reservoirs, 18 pumping stations, 28 weirs) and stream network using ArcHydro Model. In addition, new menus were added in ArcGIS system for query and visualization of text-based AWDS outputs such as irrigation facilities information, water demand and supply analysis.
Development of an Internet Based GPS Data Processing Service

As GPS equipments improve, one can acquire GPS data easily in the field. To obtain precise and accurate coordinates, however, post processing is additionally required and the processing needs high degree of skills. Besides, it is very common that we cannot operate processing softwares in the field because the required system environment is usually not prepared. The aim of this study is the development of an internet-based GPS data processing service. For post processing, we used GIPSY developed by JPL. It has many advantages such as obtaining coordinates quickly by using precise or predicted ephemeris. This service proceeds as following orders by interlocking GIPSY software and internet service which is operated on a Linux platform: Users upload the raw data file on the internet, then GIPSY runs automatically and then the user gets the result in the field. We use an Apache web server as the hosting program and PHP scripts are used in coding web pages. The total processing time including data-uploading was around 30 seconds for a 24-hour data with a 30-second sampling rate.
A Study on the Construction of Logistics Infrastructure Database using GIS

Urban freight system includes not just intra-urban freight movement but also inter-urban movement as well. Hence, to make Busan a hub of North-east asia freight movement it is necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for infrastructure expansion as well as improvement of freight system based on the present facility situation. This study identifies the status of freight facilities in Busan by establishing the freight related infrastructure Database(DB) utilizing Geographic Information System(GIS), and to enable planners and decision-makers to utilize the DB to develop a future plan. The DB includes port facilities, major and minor arterial roads, railroad lines and facilities, depots, center city business areas, and urban infrastructures which are related to the freight movements. The analyses show that major transportation facilities in Busan consist of roads, railroads, coastal transportation, and international transportation, and it was found that intermodal facilities are inadequate for freight system in Busan. The results of this study will be useful for freight experts and planners to develop a comprehensive freight system plan.
Constructing a Green Network and Wind Corridor to Alleviate the Urban Heat-Island

Like other organic beings, modern cities change every day. Unlike in the past, changes of space which have been taking place in concentrated spaces during short periods of time have worsened the environment of cities creating environmental problems. In particular, the urban heat-island phenomenon, which is caused by changes in using the earth's surface, has emerged as a key social issue along with health problems and economic difficulties. The Green Network has been introduced as an urban planning approach to solve the urban heat-island phenomenon. This study suggests constructing a Green Network through analyzing the urban heat island phenomenon, land cover classification, and linkage possibility with the Green Network and wind corridors by researching Jung-Gu, and Nam-Gu in Daegu Metropolitan City. In conclusion, this study presented the construction of a broad and detailed Green Network of object areas by assigning Apsan to the southern area and mountain area as the core, two areas of Nam-Gu and six areas of Jung-Gu such as Duryu Park and, Dalsung Park as footholds and other school land and park facility areas as footholds-to-be areas. In particular, Camp Walker, which is connected with Apsan, is not only a foothold but connected to the core, is necessary to preserve after being transferred from the U.S. Army. In addition, assigning the Susung Bridge area of Jung-Gu and the Camp Walker area of Nam-Gu as the wind corridor areas is recommended.
Temporal and Spatial Distributions of Emergency Medical Services: Busan

This study analyzed the appropriateness of the spatial distribution of fire stations and emergency medical facilities, the main providers of emergency medical care, in Busan. The area over which the 119 emergency medical services were situated in relation to the dispatch and transport of urgent rescue services was examined. Addresses of patients requiring 119 emergency services were obtained and stored as individual units so that they could be analyzed in a Geographic Information System(GIS). The time taken by emergency services to reach patients and transport them to a hospital or other facility was measured in seconds. By inputting additional information such as the location of the 119 dispatch centers, jurisdictions, and emergency medical facilities, the GIS allowed for analyses not only of the temporal but also the spatial aspects of emergency medical services. The results showed that of 16 Gu/Gun and 226 Eup/Myen/Dong in the Busan area, only 41% of Busan's emergency medical services could respond to and transport patients within five minutes. In all districts, most emergency medical services were provided within five to ten minutes. However, the pattern of hospital use to transfer patients to hospitals was inefficient. Based on the temporal and spatial distributions of fire stations and emergency medical agencies, and on their dispatch and transport times, this study sets out and compares ideal dispatch and transportation patterns for the efficient use of Busan's emergency medical services and resources.
A Study on Hydraulic Analysis using GIS-based RMA-2 and HEC-1 - For Stream Reach between Gongdo and Pyeongtaek Water Level Gauge Stations -

The purpose of this study is to analyze the hydraulic behavior in a stream reach using SMS RMA-2 model with a series of dynamic boundary conditions of main stream and lateral flows simulated by WMS HEC-1 program. For the stream reach (10.5 km) between Gongdo and Pyeongtaek water level gauge stations of Anseongcheon, the model simulated two dimensional flow characteristics by applying dynamic flow conditions of rainfall frequencies of 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 years for the main stream and three tributaries. The temporal flow behavior successfully simulated and the results showed that the distribution of mean velocity and water level within the stream reach increased according to the increase of flow frequency. Especially, the flow velocity sensibly increased at the near downstream of lateral inflow as the width of main stream is narrower.

Analyzing Effects on Improving Infrastructures for the Development of Maritime Tourism Combined Fishing Ports - Focusing on ports in Gijang, Busan -

Fishing villages have rich potential on account of serving as a base of fishing activities with various maritime ecosystem, culture and maritime resources as well. The object of the study is ports located in Gijang, Busan and it presents the overall development direction in ports within this area. Through systematic and well-planned developing small-sized ports, this research analyzes regional economic implications by improving settlement conditions for fishing villagers scattered around this area taking the ports' natural traits into consideration. The research correlates regional input output analysis by fishing port arrangement project with connection between inter-industries and inter-regions according to the model of input-output analysis and attempts to systematically analyze regional economic structure with the economic implication divided into production, employment and income, influenced upon by the change of political exogenous variable.
Efficiency of Soil Erosion to a Debris Barrier using GIS

This study analyzed the reduction efficiency to a debris barrier planed with the Office of Forestry and local provinces among diverse measurements for the diminution of high-density turbid water and soil erosion of Soyang reservoir. As the analysis of soil erosion of Soyang river basin applying rainfall data (2005) and GIS database, soil erosion is estimated as 4,819,494 ton. Also, in the analysis of unit soil erosion, Chugok-, Jaun-, and Ohang stream shows high value comparing with other watersheds. Debris barrier watersheds are extracted as the center of 94 debris barrier points using GIS spatial analysis. As the analysis of soil erosion and sediment delivery ratio (SDR) of debris barrier watershed, the reduction efficiency of soil erosion of debris barrier of 2005 is analyzed as 6.8%, that is 330,203 ton. Also, the reduction efficiency of soil erosion of debris barrier of 2005 increases as 10.5%, that is 506,783 ton, when the locations of debris barrier are changed into the high soil erosion area over 5,000 ton.
An Assessment of Urban Amenity using Physical Environmental Factors

The purpose of this study is to assess the urban amenity on physical environmental factors, and to verify the effectiveness of the amenity map using correlation analysis of the environmental quality. The physical environmental factors were set to 4 items of green space, landscape, water environment and land use, and the items were composed of 11 detail factors. Based on the factors, GIS maps were constructed and the amenity map was produced using overlay analysis. The results of this study are as follow; the proportion of 1~2 ranks was 40.8% of total area around Dalseong-gun, Dong-gu, Suseong-gu. The lower 6~7 ranks in the amenity assessment was 5.7% of total area around Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Dalseo-gu. According to the results of correlation analysis between the amenity and environmental observed data,
among the air pollution material had a negative correlation with amenity(r=-0.649, p<0.05). In case of water pollution, TN and TP had the negative correlations with amenity (r=-0.643, P<0.01; r=0.642, p<0.01).
Development of Distribution System for Enhancing Utilization of Geotechnical Information DB

Geotechnical Information Database Project was began by Ministry of Construction Transport at the 1999, because many people need a sharing and reusing the geotechnical report in construction process. In the beginning, target was report of national highway construction, the whole of country has been target on since the 2005. Today, the 60,581 number of geotechnical data(counted by boring number) is maintained. In this study, Geotechnical Information Distribute System(GIDS) was developed, in order to improve practical use and to be connected to National Geographic Information Center. and program to be applicable to construction was suggested. GIDS is able to search/download geotechnical report with digital map by internet. This system is consisted of geotechnical data and metadata editor, registration tool, and web system. We expect that GIDS make a effect to improve geotechnical data management and to be use in all part of construction process.
A Prediction of Forest Wetlands Distribution using Topographic Position Index

The purpose of this paper was to propose a Topographic Position Index(TPI) method for predicting forest wetlands, and also to test the suitability of the predicted forest wetlands by comparing with the existing wetlands in Ulaju-gun and Gyengsangnam-do. A prediction of the spatial distribution of forest wetlands was accomplished by TPI grids from Digital Elevation Model(DEM), and the classification results of slope position and landform categories in study area using the TPI values. According to the results of predicting forest wetlands distribution by TPI method, the predicted area in case of less than
flat slope criteria occupied 0.1%(
) of the total area, and 3.5%(
) of total area in below
slope criteria. According to the results of the suitability analysis by comparing the predicted area with the existing forest wetlands, the suitability value (0.066) of the predicted area with less than

City center Regeneration in Busan Metropolitan Using GIS

Donut phenomenon of city centers has resulted from the decreasing residential population and the fluid population with curved commercial function, but the analysis can bring other problems owing to the simplified method. And As the survey and the analysis the research can offer the characteristic methods for regeneration in the city of Busan. To figure out the functional regions of city center the research has analyzed 15 Dongs in city center of the three years of 1996, 2000 and 2004 to find out the donut phenomenon and the regeneration of city center. The survey has chosen 20 variation factors using factor analysis and cluster analysis. Major factors in each year are shown 3 factors, presenting 84.2%, 87.1% and 85.5% of the accumulated explanation rate. These factors explain residential centered, commercial centered, and management centered factor. The results are as following. First, it is necessary to plan the regeneration of the total city center owing to the total donut phenomenon regarding the functions. Second, the methods to regenerate city centers should be established according to the various regional characterizations.
