Developing Forecast Technique of Landslide Hazard Area by Integrating Meteorological Observation Data and Topographical Data -A Case Study of Uljin Area-

Recently the large scale of forest disaster such as landslide and forest fire gives a very bad impact on not only forest ecosystem but also farm business so that it has became the main issue of environmental problems. In this study, the landslide hazard area forecast method was developed by considering not only the topographic thematic maps based on GIS and satellite images but also amount of rainfall data, which are very important factors of landslide. Uljin-gun was selected as the study area and the GIS weight score and overlay analysis were applied to topographical map and meteorological observation map. Finally the landslide area distribution map was constructed by considering the evaluation criteria. Also, the accuracy could be acquired by comparing the landslide hazard area forecast map and real damaged area extracted from satellite image.
Constructing Spatial Data Warehouse for Forest Information Standardization Service of Municipal Governments

Recently the integration and development of ST(Spatial Technology) and forest geographic information have been used very efficiently for the forest administration. However, even though many application system related to forest information have been developed and improved, there are still paper based inventories management and hand work for data construction and upgrade. In this study the forest information warehouse, which is mapped and managed at work-site operations, was constructed based GIS technology so that the standardization and consistency of current data could be acquired in real time. In addition, these thematic maps were conducted on high resolution satellite images and managed in web based forest information data warehouse form and finally shared through Internet for the very first-line administration officials. This study shows that the forest information standardization service of municipal governments very first time in the Korea and provides the unified decision making support and enterprise formed forest database so that is expected to be the very successful sample to suggest the prototype of national forest spatial data infrastructure.
Progress and Land-Use Characteristics of Urban Sprawl in Busan Metropolitan City using Remote Sensing and GIS

Satellite image is very usefully practiced to predict and analyze physical expansion and change of city. Physical expansion and change of city is closely related to the use of land, and continuous growth management focused on the use of land is essential for sustainable city growth. In this research, the change of land cover and land-use were analyzed with basic input data from 1985 to 2000 according to artificial satellite. Moreover, the land-use turnover rate was understood and expansion trend of urban sprawl in Busan metropolitan city and land-use characteristics of the expansion area. The results are, first, the area for urban region was expanded continuously but areas for agriculture area, forest area, and water area had different changes due to administrative district reform of Busan by each year. Second, the urbanization area in Busan was increased by 3.8% from
in 1985 to
in 2000. Third, the result of analysis on land-use turnover rate showed that agriculture area was turned into urbanized area the most, and forest area was followed by. Fourth, the result of analysis on database and overlay of buildings in Busan established in 2001 showed that agriculture area are had type 1 and 2 neighborhood living facilities (45.63%), apartment house in forest area (18.49%), and factory in water area (31.84%) with high ratio.
A Study on Microclimate Change Via Time Series Analysis of Satellite Images -Centered on Dalseo District, Daegu City-

Based on previous research on ways of reducing an urban heat island phenomenon via an introduction of wind corridors, I conducted this study to see what influence a change in land cover arising of or going through urbanization has on wind corridors of urban space. As a target place, I chose Daegu city where is a representative extreme heat place in Korea and has been also largely expanded in size by incorporating its neighboring areas since the 1980s, expecially Dalseo District whose surface temperature gap is large. The population of Dalseo District has been sharply increased since its creation as a new administrative district in 1988. I studied on the urban microclimate change for a 20-year period by using satellite images on summer months in 1987, 1997 and 2007 in time frames. The finding of this study found that a reduction of natural land cover and an increase of artificial land cover serves as a disadvantageous factor for cold air creation and flowing and strikingly lowers the amount and height of cold air in the downtown area. It seemed that the cold air creation and flowing functions are influenced by land cover. In order to steadily create cold air and secure its flowing, it is thought that urban development or urban regeneration should be implemented by analysing the characteristics of the space surrounding the city. By doing so, a pleasant and healthy city could be formed.
Identifying Urban Spatial Structure through GIS and Remote Sensing Data -The Case of Daegu Metropolitan Area-

The main purpose of this study is to identify urban spatial structure by applying geographic information system and remote sensing data. This study identifies the urban spatial structure of non-megalopolis by analyzing the spatial distribution of population and employment in the case of Daegu metropolitan area. For this purpose, multi-temporal satellite image data (Landsat TM; 1995, 2000 and 2005) were utilized through the geographic information system. The distance-decay estimations in terms of population and employment density show that Daegu region as a whole shows monocentric urban characteristics. However, some evidences of polycentricism such as low explanation power of monocentric urban model, rises in multiple employment centers, decentralization of employment are emerging.
An Classification of Management Area using Assessment of Conservation Value on Forest Wetland - Focusing on Sandeul Wetland in Mt. Jaeyak, Gyeongsangnam-do -

The purpose of this study is to establish the management area using assessment of the conservation value on forest wetland, Sandeul wetland in Mt. Jaeyak, Miryang-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea. The six assessment factors were selected through the review of previous researches and written evidences such as wetland vegetation, hydrological factor, soil factor, topographical factor, naturalness and risk. The assessment data were built on the basis of digital topographic maps, digital detailed soil maps, high resolution satellite images and field surveys of three times. According to the result of assessment of the conservation value and establishment the management area, the core area which has the highest conservation value was occupied by 1.9ha and the conservation area which conservation value is 2 grades was occupied by 33.7ha. The buffer area surrounded core area and conservation area was analyzed by 33.7ha. The transition area which conservation value is 4 grades showed by the widest area(151.2ha) and restoration area that is the ecological hazard area was occupied by 1.7ha. In conclusion, these results can provide methods and basic informations for conserving and managing wetlands because the management area was classified scientifically considering rational processes.
The Effects of an Urban Renewal Plan on Detailed Air Flows in an Urban Area

Using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model, the effects of building complexes constructed under an urban renewal plan on air flows in an urban area were investigated. For this, the geographic information system (GIS) data were used as the input data of the CFD model and four experiments were numerically simulated for different inflow directions (westerly, southerly, easterly, and northerly cases). Before constructing building complexes under the urban renewal plan, wind speed at the pedestrian level was very low around buildings because of decrease in wind speed by the drag effect of the densely distributed low-rise buildings. As the high-rise buildings were constructed and building density decreased by the urban renewal plan, wind speed at the pedestrian level increased compared to that before the urban renewal plan because the drag effect by the buildings decreases and the channeling effect satisfying the mass continuity partially appeared at the spaces among the high-rise buildings. At the upper levels, wind speed partially increased inside the high-rise buildings due to the channeling effect but it remarkably decreased across a vast extent of the downwind regions due to the generation of the recirculation zone and the drag effect of the high-rise buildings.
The Analysis of Suspended Sediment Load of Donghyang and Cheoncheon Basin using GIS-based SWAT Model

This study applied SWAT model to analyze suspended sediment load that is influence on the high density turbid water in Donghyang and Cheoncheon basin, which are located in the upstream of Yongdam Dam. GIS data such as DEM, land cover map and soil map, and meteorological data were used as the input data of SWAT model. And the rating curve equation and Q-SS equation of Donghyang and Cheoncheon gauge station were applied as the measured values of them. As the result of flowout, the coefficient of determination (
) and the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (EI) of model calibration showed high as 0.87 and 0.87 at Donghyang gauge station, and the
and EI of model validation were high as 0.95 at Cheoncheon gauge station. Also, as the result of suspended sediment load, the
and EI of model calibration were high as 0.77 and 0.76 at Donghyang gauge station, and the
and EI of model validation marked high as 0.867 and 0.80 at Cheoncheon gauge station. It is considered that the suspended sediment load of 2003 showed the highest due to rainfall amounts and rainfall intensity in using SWAT model. The results of suspended sediment modeled in this study can be applied to the decision-making support data for the evaluation of soil erosion possibility and turbid water potential in the management of reservoir.
Establishing Urban Green Network by Estimating Birds Moving Pattern

This study is to establish urban green network on the urbanized area using characteristics of fragmented and ornamental green area distribution. To do this, the survey for the green area characteristics was carried out in Changwon City. In order to analyze network, a virtual network in whole city sky for bird's movement, which is consisted with 30m grid lines was prepared. To analyze which network routes depend on the direction, we estimated bird's movement between 8-direction and 16-direction's outskirt forest's source point and inner city's fragmented green area. In the analysis of two types different direction models, the results of green network routes are mostly matched. So green network plan by this results is more reasonable for enhancing bird's movement to inner city. Based on the these findings, this green network planning will be providing for inner city to influx outside forest's birds and maximize the ecological connectivity.
Suitability Analysis on Land Use for Eco-City using GIS

The purpose of this study is to decide the suitability of the land use on eco-city by analysing ecological elements using GIS. Selected ecological elements for suitability analysis were altitude, slope, watershed, biotope, soil productivity, visual sensitivity, vegetation, and green connection. The category of each element was classified into 5 grades, and was given weight according to each element. The maximum value of each element was extracted from overlay analysis process. The result of analysis was classified into 5 grade finally. As a result, land use was proposed to be development, conservation, and preservation area.
Variability in the Effective Spatial Range of the Population Centripetal Force of CBD

This study measured the centripetal force and effective scope of the population spread from urban center and subcenters in order to diagnose the urban spatial structure of the formation of a multicentric city structure in Busan. The study analyzed the variability of the determination coefficient value (R square) with a negative exponential function derived from the population density model by extending the circular region into 5-km units. The aim of this study was to measure changes in the effective scope of the population centripetal force of the urban center and subcenter in 5-year intervals from 1995 to 2005 using census data. The explanatory adequacy of the population density function was examined with the bias of the function to calculate the distance error between the real location of the urban center and the optimal location, according to the population density function. To summarize the results, the value for the area of Jungangdong showed a continuous reduction, whereas Seomyeon (Bujeondong) maintained explanatory adequacy without a large change. As a whole, Busan was in the process of continuous diversification, in spite of its reduced population. Therefore, it appears necessary to strengthen the function of the urban center and subcenter and to supply adequate dwelling zones close to downtown to form a more efficient urban spatial structure. The results of the present study will be utilized as basic data for the formulation of a political approach to the efficient reorganization of spatial structure by correlating concrete spatial information with the population variability of Busan's urban center and subcenter.
