Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 1~12
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.001
There has been the increasing concern with the safety of seven major urban infrastructure such as road, electricity, water supply, sewerage and so on due to urban expansion and new town development. However, high technology development for the common duct which can be an alternative for the safety issue has not been completed due to the law of the national security area. Existing management method of the common duct by people could not respond to the urgent accidents adequately and immediately since it is impossible for us to get access to that in case of fire or gas leak. This study suggests to the method of installing monitoring devices and processing CCTV images with a water supply in a TestLab(a variety of the USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) equipment was tested in the TestLab in KICT). The suggested management method of common duct facilities make it possible to do real-time monitoring and prompt access and response to an accident inside the common duct.

Yun, Jeong-Mi ; Kim, Tae-Woo ; Suh, Yong-Cheol ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 22~32
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.022
The 3-D spatial information systems are effective for systematical urban management and civil administration. They have more visibility than the 2-D spatial information systems with height information. However, the 3-D spatial information systems for local government were developed by central government's master plan of national spatial informatization. It means that the systems are biased toward the 3-D viewing as the visibility like a 3-D display and simulation, without reflected distinct characteristics of the local society. In order to utilize municipalities'3-D spatial information systems efficiently, above all, we have to understand the current status of municipalities'3-D spatial information systems and then have to search the ways applying actively. Therefore, we reviewed the current 3-D spatial information systems and discussed the development directions with central government's national spatial informatization master plans in order to perform properly on the 3-D spatial information system's excellent functions. We analyzed each system characteristics based on the applicability to civil administration which has the potential usage of spatial information. Additionally we suggested the development directions of 3-D spatial information systems for municipalities'through reviewing which civil administrative tasks 3-D spatial information can be applied. The consideration was based on the user demand research of the 3-D spatial information system in Chungcheongnam-do.

At present, about 1.6 million bio-species have been discovered in the world. Approximately 30 thousand indigenes have been recorded in Korea and about fifteen thousand species of biology inhabit in Korea national park. Korea national park where has been lived 133 species at 60 percent of endangered species is a very important wildlife protection area. The construction of database about substantive distribution and habitat of wildlife is urgently needed to protect and manage endangered species. In this study, main habitats about animals were registered using GIS program in Jirisan National Park and 3 dimensional habitat map was produced. Also, new plan was suggested to preserve and manage animals in national parks by producing 3 dimensional habitat map. The habitat map was produced using coordinate file of animals, polygon file about boundary of national park, and ASTER GDEM. New conceptional animal habitat map will be used by means of the valuable information when the plans for preservation/management and habitat protection about animals are designed.

DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.063
This study purposes to develop a model to analyze soil loss in estimating prior disaster influence. The model of analyzing soil loss develops the soil loss analysis system on the basis of Internet by introducing cloud computing system, and also develops a standalone type in connection with HyGIS. The soil loss analysis system is developed to draw a distribution chart without requiring a S/W license as well as without preparing basic data such as DEM, soil map and land cover map. Besides, it can help users to draw a soil loss distribution chart by applying various factors like direct rain factors. The tools of Soil Loss Anaysis Model in connection with HyGiS are developed as add-on type of GMMap2009 in GEOMania, and also are developed to draw Soil Loss Hazard Map suggested by OECD. As a result of using both models, they are developed very conveniently to analyze soil loss. Hereafter, these models will be able to be improved continuously through researches to analyze sediment a watershed outlet and to calculate R value using data of many rain stations.

DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.077
This study tries to find a streambed scouring and sedimentation characteristics through the Rosgen(1994)'s stream classification system while experiencing several flood events. The Jinwee and Osan streams, the tributaries of Anseongcheon were selected. The streams showed type C or type E. By the classification results, two Type C tributaries one Type C stream and one Type E tributary were selected. For the four selected stream reaches, the analysis of streambed change was implemented by using numerical model CCHE2D (Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering). To prepare the inlet boundary conditions of each stream, the WMS (Watershed Modeling System) HEC-1 was used and the streamflows of 50, 80, and 100-year return period were generated and the outlet boundary was set to an open boundary condition. The simulation results showed that when the flood pulse periodically the streambed changes also appears regularly. The results can be used to acquire the basic data for stream restoration.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 102~115
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.102
The purpose of this study is to establish the evaluation model through the systematic process of selecting the indicators and to evaluate the environmental-control function on forest using GIS in Deagu for the sustainable forest planning. The 35 indicators as basic items were selected by literature review and those were squeezed into the 29 indicators through expert brainstorming. Also, the 8 indicators to evaluate environmental-control function were selected by the first survey and the 5 final indicators such as carbon sink, temperature decrease, wind formation, water circulation, air purification were determined by MCB analysis using the second survey. The evaluation model was established through the weight of each indicator by AHP analysis using the third survey. According to the result of evaluating the environmental-control function on forest, the functions around the top area of Mt. Ap, Mt. Biseul, Mt. Palgong had more than 66 scores. On the other hand, the functions around Mt. Waryong and forest of Chilgok in Buk-gu had less than 40 scores. It is necessary to improve the function through the sustainable restoration and management in case of forest that the environmental-control function was lower. Furthermore, these results will be able to be utilized as basic data in order to establish the preservation area and control development area at the urban, environmental, and forest planning.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 116~127
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.116
This study conducted landslide susceptibility analysis using logistic regression. The performance of prediction model needs to be evaluated considering two aspects such as a goodness of fit and a prediction accuracy. Thus to gain more objective prediction results in this study, the prediction performance of the applied model was evaluated considering two such evaluation aspects. The selected study area is located between Inje-eup and Buk-myeon in the middle of Kwangwon. Landslides in the study area were caused by heavy rain in 2006. Landslide causal factors were extracted from topographic map, forest map and soil map. The evaluation of prediction model was assessed based on the area under the curve of the cumulative gain chart. From the results of experiments, 87.9% in the goodness of fit and 84.8% in the cross validation were evaluated, showing good prediction accuracies and not big difference between the results of the two evaluation methods. The results can be interpreted in terms of the use of environmental factors which are highly related to landslide occurrences and the accuracy of the prediction model.

To monitor and predict the change of coastal environment according to the construction of Saemangeum sea dyke and the development of land reclamation, we have done real-time and periodic ocean observation and numerical simulation since 2002. Saemangeum coastal environmental data can be largely classified to marine meteorology, ocean physics and circulation, water quality, marine geology and marine ecosystem and each part of data has been generated continuously and accumulated over about 10 years. The collected coastal environmental data are huge amounts of heterogeneous dataset and have some characteristics of multi-dimension, multivariate and spatio-temporal distribution. Thus the implementation of information system possible to data collection, processing, management and service is necessary. In this study, through the implementation of Saemangeum coastal environmental information system using geographic information system, it enables the integral data collection and management and the data querying and analysis of enormous and high-complexity data through the design of intuitive and effective web user interface and scientific data visualization using statistical graphs and thematic cartography. Furthermore, through the quantitative analysis of trend changed over long-term by the geo-spatial analysis with geo- processing, it's being used as a tool for provide a scientific basis for sustainable development and decision support in Saemangeum coast. Moreover, for the effective web-based information service, multi-level map cache, multi-layer architecture and geospatial database were implemented together.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 137~149
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.137
In this study, we analyzed the effects of seismic displacements due to the mega thrust earthquake occurred near Tohoku-Oki area on Mar. 11, 2011 with Mw 9.0 magnitude in the context of evaluation of position change by the earthquake on the Korean and Asian GPS permanent stations. For this, two weeks GPS data observed around the event of Tohoku-Oki earthquake (Mar. 4 ~ Mar. 18, 2011) were obtained from 22 GPS permanent stations in the vicinity of epicenter (Korea, Japan, Russia, China and Taiwan) and 284 IGS global stations. All available GPS data were processed and adjusted by GAMIT/GLOBK software to estimate the co-seismic horizontal displacements at each station. As the results of GPS analysis, the co-seismic displacements due to Tohoku-Oki earthquake were clearly revealed in the GPS stations of Asian region, Japan and its neighboring countries, and even to affect the horizontal position of GPS station (WUHN in China) which are located about 2,702km away from the epicenter. In conclusion, it was found that the Tohoku-Oki earthquake had resulted in the horizontal displacements ranging from 14.9 mm to 58.3 mm in Korea. So, these displacements can cause the position error of GPS geodetic survey up to 20 mm without updating the coordinates of Korean geodetic network.

IT convergence and integration technology aims to create new synergies by combining IT related technology and performance. This study conducted a basic research for combining construction and IT technology to create new synergies. Specifically, the purpose of this study is to combine USN and GIS technology and then apply it to urban facilities management. For this, we have developed the USN hardware, tested propagation communications, and made the GIS Algorithm and a system. Existing sensor node allocation method is mostly to install in a random way or with in-situ survey, but the problem with this method is contradictory to cost effectiveness and efficiency. To solve this problem, we developed a new method for sensor allocation. Using this method, the USN technology could be applied in the range of city unit. This technology can be applied to the ubiquitous urban development such as U-City and Smart City.

Yoon, Dong-Young ; Choi, Hyun-Woo ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 182~193
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.182
In order to compare the spatio-temporal variation pattern of sea surface temperature (SST) in Korea's Southern areas of the sea according to a regional scale, this study has selected the winter and summer seasons for 31 years (1980~2010) in a period aspect and selected three areas of the sea such as the Western areas of the sea (region B) and Eastern areas of the sea (region C) around Jeju Island in addition to overall Southern areas of the sea (region A) in regional aspect. The regression analysis was applied to find out a temporal variation pattern of SST, and the weighted mean center (WMC) of SST as well as analysis of a standard deviational ellipse (SDE) was respectively applied. As a result of regression analysis of SST, it showed a rising long-term trend for all two seasons in three regions. However, though the average SST for 31 years was all similar in three regions in the summer season, the region C appeared more highly than region B in the winter season. The spatial variation pattern of SST for two seasons showed that it is respectively different from each other in three regions. The spatial variation pattern of SST appeared as E-W direction in region A, SE-NW direction in region B and SW-NE direction in region C. In addition, the relationship between the location of the WMC of SST and the average SST showed correlation in regions A and B in the winter season, whereas it appeared that there is no correlation in region C. Accordingly, it can be known that the regional scale should be considered in case of analysis of spatio-temporal variation patterns of SST.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 194~207
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.194
This study tries to find the possibility to prevent crime by improving urban spatial environment through the analysis of spatial environment property that mutually coincides or differs by comparing the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime. The method of study is as follows. First, the ontents scope and method of study was established by theoretic investigation of case study related to crime. Second, as crime cannot be prevented by police power only, CPSCP(Citizen Participation System for Crime Prevention) was developed so that all citizen can cooperatively participate in the crime prevention anytime and anywhere. Third, the data on the place where people feel fear in the region was collected by directly indicating the place where citizen is afraid of crime in the space by utilizing CPSCP. Fourth, the place where crime actually occurs and the place where citizen is afraid of crime are redundantly analyzed for comparative analysis of 2 places. The result shows that environmental design improving physical environment of urban space is necessary to prevent crime and to eliminate the fear of crime. The CPSCP developed by this study which will be advanced to U-crime prevention system will contribute to making citizen's own neighborhood a smart safety city autonomously.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 208~220
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.208
Korean traditional practice that gets a gravesite for burial and reckless grave establishment not only obstructs systematic national land management and reasonable urban development, but also causes a serious factor which has a harmful effect on natural environment and residential space in reality that our country is limited in area and national and social bases for use and establishment of graves are still inadequite. Though government and local governments have tried to cope with these problems by enacting legislation on funeral and others and so forth, they still have a variety of problems due to the shortage of grave management systems and information of accumulated individual graves. This study describes about the development of a GIS-based grave management system for making administrative management for individual cemeteries the prime object. As a result of application to a pilot area, the system developed in this study was able to be applied for supporting the time-limited burial system and managing cemeteries for those who left no relatives behind by constructing the database with grave-related position/attribute information which are collected by administrative system or direct survey. In addition, it is expected that this system will be utilized as a systematic management method that can be handed down the present or the future descendants under the tradition of the family-oriented funeral culture.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 14, issue 4, 2011, Pages 221~237
DOI : 10.11108/kagis.2011.14.4.221
This study aims to investigate the environmental equity of the accessibility to urban neighborhood parks in the city of Daegu. The spatial distribution of urban neighborhood parks was explored by spatial statistics and the spatial accessibility to them was then evaluated by both minimum distance and coverage approaches. Descriptive and inferential statistics such as proximity ratio, Mann Whitney U test, and logistic regression were used for comparing the socioeconomic characteristics over different accessibilities to the neighborhood parks and then testing the distributional inequity hypothesis. The results from the minimum distance method indicated that Dalseo-gu had the best accessibility to the neighborhood parks while Dong-gu had the worst accessibility. It was apparent with the coverage method that Dalseo-gu had the best accessibility whereas Dong-gu and Nam-gu had the worst accessibility to the neighborhood parks at 500m and 1,000m buffer distances. There existed the spatial pattern of environmental inequity in old towns with respect to population density and the percentage of people under the age of 18. The spatial pattern of environmental inequity in new towns was explored on the basis of the percentage of people over the age of 65, the percentage of people below the poverty level, and the percentage of free of charge rental housing. These results were closely related to the development process of urban parks in Daegu stimulated by the quantitative urban park policy, urban development process, and residential location pattern such as permanent rental housing and free of charge rental housing. This study further extends the existing research topics of environmental justice related to the distributional inequity of environmental disamenities and hazards by focusing on environmental amenities such as urban neighborhood parks. The results from this study can be used in making the decisions for urban park management and setting up urban park policy with considering the social geography of Daegu.
