Estimating Method of Surface Roughness Using Geographic Information

Rapid urban expansion and densification of the various industrial facilities affect the changes of topography and building in urban areas. Even if buildings proceed with high rise, they get mixed with low-rise buildings such as houses and industrial parks that have existed in the area. This may confuse the designer in estimating a surface roughness, an important factor in calculating the design wind velocity of building. This study analyzed the surface roughness by using a geographic information. Referring to the criteria of each country's building code, this study proposed a method to distinguish the surface roughness depending on the height of the surrounding buildings where the design building is located and calculated the surface roughness using 1:5000 topographic map and GIS. It is expected to solve problems that an existing designer calculates the surface roughness in a subjective manner and to help to design more rational buildings resistant to wind.
Producing Firefighting Vulnerability Maps Using GIS - A Case Study of Dalseo-gu, Daegu -

Fire incidents, which occur every year, cause huge damage to properties and humans. Significant time and costs have been invested in minimizing and responding to such accidents. With the recent advances in the development of spatial information, in the firefighting field, studies have been conducted to effectively bring fires under control using GIS(Geographic Information System). Most of such studies, however, focused on individual analyses of firefighting-related factors, but comprehensive research on the vulnerability factors in fire control activities, a major part of firefighting activity, has yet to be done. This study sought to pinpoint and analyze the factors that obstruct fire controlling, and to gather relevant data and create GIS-based databases. Based on such database, GIS-based overlay analysis was conducted to produce a fire control vulnerability map. The findings of this study will enable a quantitative analysis of firefighting obstruction factors to assist the personnel engaging in firefighting in rational decision-making, such as in formulating a firefighting operation plan for securing golden time.
Application Plan of Goods Information in the Public Procurement Service for Enhancing U-City Plans

In this study, a reference model is constructed that provides architects or designers with sufficient information on the intelligent service facility that is essential for U-City space configuration, and for the support of enhanced design, as well as for planning activities. At the core of the reference model is comprehensive information about the intelligent service facility that plans the content of services, and the latest related information that is regularly updated. A plan is presented to take advantage of the database of list information systems in the Public Procurement Service that handles intelligent service facilities. We suggest a number of improvements by analyzing the current status of, and issues with, the goods information in the Public Procurement Service, and by conducting a simulation for the proper placement of CCTV. As the design of U-City plan has evolved from IT technology-based to smart space-based, reviews of limitations such as the lack of standards, information about the installation, and the placement of the intelligent service facility that provides U-service have been carried out. Due to the absence of relevant legislation and guidelines, however, planning activities, such as the appropriate placement of the intelligent service facility are difficult when considering efficient service provision. In addition, with the lack of information about IT technology and intelligent service facilities that can be provided to U-City planners and designers, there are a number of difficulties when establishing an optimal plan with respect to service level and budget. To solve these problems, this study presents a plan in conjunction with the goods information from the Public Procurement Service. The Public Procurement Service has already built an industry-related database of around 260,000 cases, which has been continually updated. It can be a very useful source of information about the intelligent service facility, the ever-changing U-City industry's core, and the relevant technologies. However, since providing this information is insufficient in the application process and, due to the constraints in the information disclosure process, there have been some issues in its application. Therefore, this study, by presenting an improvement plan for the linkage and application of the goods information in the Public Procurement Service, has significance for the provision of the basic framework for future U-City enhancement plans, and multi-departments' common utilization of the goods information in the Public Procurement Service.
An Assessment of Groundwater Contamination Vulnerability and Priority Areas for Groundwater Management Using GIS and Analytic Hierarchy Process

The purpose of this study is to improve the previous groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment method, apply it to the study area, and select priority areas for groundwater management based on the quantitative analysis of groundwater contamination vulnerability. For this purpose, first, the previous 'potential contamination' based on groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment method was upgraded to the methodology considering 'adaptation capacity' which reduced contamination. Second, the weight of groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment factors was calculated based on the analytical hierarchy process(AHP) and the result of survey targeting groundwater experts. Third, Gyeonggi-do was selected as the study area and the improved methodology and weight were implemented with GIS and actual groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment was carried out. Fourth, the priority area for groundwater contamination management was selected based on the quantitative groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment diagram. The improved detailed groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment factors in this study were a total of 15 factors, and 15 factors were analyzed as new and improved weight with higher 'adaptation capacity' than the assessment factor corresponding to the previous 'potential contamination' in the weight calculation result using AHP. Also, the result of groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment in Gyeonggi Province using GIS showed that Goyang and Gwangmyeong which were adjacent to Seoul had a high groundwater contamination vulnerability and Pocheon and Yangpyeong County had a relatively low groundwater contamination vulnerability. In this study, the previous groundwater contamination vulnerability assessment was improved and applied to study areas actually. The result of this study can be utilized both directly and indirectly for the groundwater management master plan at national and local government level in the future.

Estimating Precise Spatio-Temporal Distribution of Weather Condition Using Semi-Variogram in Small Scale Recreation Forest

As forest therapy is getting more attention than ever, it is important to organize time for activity and location based on spatio-temporal distribution of weather condition in forest. This study aimed to analyze precise spatio-temporal distribution of weather condition by installing long-term weather monitoring device in Yonghyun national natural recreation forest and using acquired weather data in order to support forest recreation and therapy activity. First, we statistically compared 4 models of semi-variogram and the results were all similar. We selected and analyzed the circular model for this study because it was presumed to be the best model for this case. We derived 128 results from the circular model and through semi-variogram, we identified seasonal and temporal distributions of temperature and humidity. Then, we used boxplot, made of partial sill level, to identify significant differences in seasonal and temporal distributions. As a result, in spring and early morning, both temperature and humidity showed equalized result. On the other hand, in summer and early afternoon, both temperature and humidity showed uneven result. In spring and early morning, changes in weather condition are shown little from spatial shifting, it is ideal to perform recreational activities and forest therapy but in summer and early afternoon, it is unadvisable to do so as the changes in weather condition could be harmful unless any other means of preparations are made. This study proposes its significance by analyzing seasonal micro-weather of single recreation forest and presenting seasonal and temporal outcomes.
Classification of Crop Cultivation Areas Using Active Learning and Temporal Contextual Information

This paper presents a classification method based on the combination of active learning with temporal contextual information extracted from past land-cover maps for the classification of crop cultivation areas. Iterative classification based on active learning is designed to extract reliable training data and cultivation rules from past land-cover maps are quantified as temporal contextual information to be used for not only assignment of training data but also relaxation of spectral ambiguity. To evaluate the applicability of the classification method proposed in this paper, a case study with MODIS time-series vegetation index data sets and past cropland data layers(CDLs) is carried out for the classification of corn and soybean in Illinois state, USA. Iterative classification based on active learning could reduce misclassification both between corn and soybean and between other crops and non crops. The combination of temporal contextual information also reduced the over-estimation results in major crops and led to the best classification accuracy. Thus, these case study results confirm that the proposed classification method can be effectively applied for crop cultivation areas where it is not easy to collect the sufficient number of reliable training data.
Spatio-Temporal Clustering Analysis of HPAI Outbreaks in South Korea, 2014

Outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) subtype H5N8 have occurred in Korea, January 2014 and it continued more than a year until 2015. And more than 5 million heads of poultry hads been damaged in 196 farms until May 2014. So, we studied the spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal patterns of the HPAI epidemics for understanding the propagation and diffusion characteristics of the 2014 HPAI. The results are expressed using GIS. Throughout the study period three epidemic waves occurred over the time. And outbreaks made three clusters in space. First spatial cluster is adjacent areas of province of Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do and Gyeonggi -do. Second is Jeonlabuk-do Gomso Bay area. And the last is Naju and Yeongam in Jeollanam-do. Also, most of spatio-temporal clusters were formed in spatially high clustered areas. Especially, in Gomso Bay area space density and spatio-temporal density were concurrent. It means that the effective prevention activity for HPAI was carried out. But there are some exceptional areas such as Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Gyeonggi-do adjacent area. In these areas the outbreak density was high in space but the spatio-temporal cluster was not formed. It means that the HPAI virus was continuing inflow over a long period.

In this paper we propose an application that can help you to find a school near you easily using smart phone GPS capabilities and Google map mounted on Android system. We use a shortest path algorithm to search near destinations. You can take advantage of the developed application when finding public places or destinations. Schools have usually been used as places for disaster evacuation, entrance examination, and qualifying examination. Even though you are not the young who use the smart phone easily, anyone can find a destination school easily with the proposed application of this paper.
A Comparative Study of Image Classification Method to Detect Water Body Based on UAS

Recently, there has been a growing interest in UAS(Unmanned Aerial System), and it is required to develop techniques to effectively detect water body from the recorded images in order to implement flood monitoring using UAS. This study used a UAS with RGB and NIR+RG bands to achieve images, and applied supervised classification method to evaluate the accuracy of water body detection. Firstly, the result for accuracy in water body image classification by RGB images showed high Kappa coefficients of 0.791 and 0.783 for the artificial neural network and minimum distance method respectively, and the maximum likelihood method showed the lowest, 0.561. Moreover, in the evaluation of accuracy in water body image classification by NIR+RG images, the magalanobis and minimum distance method showed high values of 0.869 and 0.830 respectively, and in the artificial neural network method, it was very low as 0.779. Especially, RGB band revealed errors to classify trees or grasslands of Songsan amusement park as water body, but NIR+RG presented noticeable improvement in this matter. Therefore, it was concluded that images with NIR+RG band, compared those with RGB band, are more effective for detection of water body when the mahalanobis and minimum distance method were applied.
