A Study on the Stereo Image Map Generation of Chuncheon Area using Satellite Overlay Images

Satellite remote sensing images have much more information compared to a paper map. But these images are generally handled as particular image format gained from optical sensor, and must be processed and analyzed by computer with high priced digital image processing system. For the extraction of digital elevation model(DEM) from satellite image, we used the overlay image by SPOT-3 of Chuncheon area at the Kangwon province. According to the image condition, the precious geometric correction, the bundle adjustment for ortho-image generation and the stereo image mapping by several technical approaches were processed. So that we developed the methods of automatic DEM extraction and efficient stereo image map generation which can improve the digital image processing steps. Also, we applied the multiple direction birdeye view image for modeling and analysis using the remotely sensed overlay images with high resolution.
GPS Data Collection and Application for the Analysis of Car Following Behavior

The travel behavior should be analysed microscopically for the traffic management of urban street. The car following theory which found out the correlation between the lead and the following vehicles is being widely used as basic data in many fields. As the vehicle position and its speed information can be received by GPS, this technique is recently applying to the various fields. For the case study the travel data were collected with two vehicles equipped with GPS receiver. The moving distance was calculated by the collected location data every 2 seconds and the speed variation was checked. And this study analysed and compared the acceleration and deceleration speed between the lead and the following vehicle. Finally, Regression model about the relationship between the acceleration and deceleration speed and the acceleration and deceleration distance was constructed. This model could be helpful for the road design and the regulation for the safe traffic management.
The Estimate of the Urban Development Effects of the Subway Construction using GIS

The improvement of transportation condition is known to be a main source of regional development. This paper aims to estimate the development effects of the subway construction on commercial buildings in suburban area. For this purpose, it examines using GIS how many commercial buildings were registered around surface of subway line and stations after the publicity of subway construction plan in Taegu city. The main findings are follows; Firstly, there is a strong development tendency of commercial building which aims at time of starting and completion of subway construction. Secondly, development effects are stronger in front raw of the corridor than in the rear side of the raw. Thirdly, development types are different station by station.
A Case Study on Suitability Analysis of Solid Waste Landfill Site utilizing GIS

This research demonstrates the application of GIS to the selection of the waste landfill site through the case study of a urban area. The estimation factors for the suitability analysis of the waste landfill site were determined. The database was built through collection, input, and transformation of data. The recent land cover classification data and NDVI data which were obtained through processing of satellite imagery were incorporated into GIS data as estimation factors. The relative weights of importance among 2nd category estimation factors were determined by the pairwise comparison method. Also relative weights of 1st category estimation factors which are divided into the social-economical factor and the natural environmental factor were combined with those of 2nd category estimation factors. As the results of this case study, the suitability analysis was conducted in accordance with various estimation criteria. The highest suitability index was obtained in the case where we considered the relative weights of 2nd category estimation factors as different in the viewpoint which regards the social economical factor as important.
Constructing an Urban Information System for Client-oriented Public Administration

From the perspective of client-oriented administration, the study introduces the basic structure of Urban Inormation System (UIS) and examines problems and new strategies of UIS in Korean local governments. The study selects five metropolitan cities for a case study. According to this case study, UIS in Korea are focused on AM/FM and internally used only by practitioners. No government surveyed what their citizens want to get from UIS. To solve these problems, the study proposes developing strategies for client-oriented UIS as follows. First, local governments could use policy delphi technique to sum up the citizens' needs on UIS. Second, they need to pay more attention to the diversity and transmutability of administration zone and consider the importance of the connection between administration zone and attribute data collected on them. Third, UIS needs to keep a balance between AM/FM and living GIS. Fourth, internet UIS needs to be constructed which enables citizens' access to UIS more easily. Finally, GIS education and client-oriented administrative education need to be combined to improve government employees' mind for UIS.
A Study on the Application of Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution(AGNPS) Model using GIS and RS

The objective of this study was to identify the applicability of AGNPS(Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution) model using RS data; Landsat TM merged by KOMPSAT EOC and GIS data. AGNPS model which is well-known distributed nonpoint source pollution model was used as the assessment tool. This model has the capability to adjust the level of pollutant load from farmstead and the fertilization level of upland field. A small agricultural watershed(
) which has 20 livestock farmhouses located in Gosan-myun, Ansung-gun was selected. AGNPS data were prepared by using Arc/Info, GRASS, ER-Mapper and Idrisi. Four storm events in 1999 were used for runoff calibration, and 2 storm events which were measured in hourly-base at 4 locations along the stream were used for water quality(TN, TP) calibration.
A Study on the Preparation Method of Fruit Cropping Distribution Map using Satellite Images and GIS

This study focused on extracting an efficient method in the fruit cropping distribution mapping with various classification methods using multi-temporal satellite images and Geographic Information Systems(GIS). For this study, multi-temporal Landsat TM images, in observation data and existing fruit cropping area statistics were used to compare and analyze the properties of fruit cropping and seasonal distribution per classification method. As a result, this study concludes that Maximum Likelihood Method with earlier autumn satellite image was most efficient for the fruit cropping mapping using Landsat TM image. In addition, it was clarified that cropping area per administrative boundary was prepared and distribution pattern was identified efficiently using GIS spatial analysis.
