Nationwide Comprehensive GIS for Natural Environment using Spatial Data Integration Technique

This research is primarily intended to develop a decision-making support system about the natural environment in the country by integrating various formats of spatial data into a comprehensive GIS database. The first part of the research is to design GIS database as a means of combining thematic cartographic data with field survey records. Ecosystem records acquired by a field sampling have been reproduced as digital thematic maps. The database also included various natural environment related data (map for forestry, soil, national park etc.) collected from many other agencies. The second part of the research is devoted to the design of efficient man-machine interfaces. A key concern in the GUI (graphic user interface) design process was to address the need to handle and to manage large databases by non-GIS experts. The system has been checked experimentally, enabled the users to quarry the data required simply and execute spatial analysis accommodating versatile alternatives in decision-making process. Detailed visual maps can be generated over large areas quickly and easily. The system will serve to increase the scientific and objective decision-making by overcoming serious constraints suffered from the past non-GIS-based approach. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference in building a nationwide natural environment GIS-DB (database) in the central and local governments.
The Validation of Landsat TM Band Ratio Algorithm using In-water Optical Measurement

Landsat TM band ratio algorithms were made by in-water optical measurement data of each sampling points for water quality monitoring of coastal area using Landsat TM satellite data. The algorithm was derived from in-water optical reflectance data which was measuring by the PRR(profiling reflectance radiometer). And, in-water optical reflectance data were applied to Landsat TM bands. Relationship between in-water optical reflectance and pigments proposed by the ratio of TM band 1 and band 2 showed to as follows;
=0.7069) and, relationship of the ratio of TM band 1 and band 3 as follows;
=0.8062). Calculated the upwelling radiance of water surface and radiance of TM showed the ratio of atmospheric effect. In the coastal area Rayleigh and Mie scattering of atmosphere is to make over 80% of normalized radiance of Landsat TM. In order to apply in-water algorithm obtained by PRR, we had to calculate the atmospheric effects at sampling site. And, the quantitative analysis of in-water components using Landsat TM data need the calibration of in-water algorithm and effective method of atmospheric correction.
The Validation of Band Ratio Algorithm for Estimation of Transparency of Coastal Area

SDD(Secchi disk depth) algorithm were composed of SeaWiFS bands combination using in-water optical data sets obtained Lake Sihwa, Kyungki Bay, Chunsu Bay, and Chinhae Bay. SDD algorithm were compared with in-situ data. Reflectance band ratio,
(490/665) had the highest correlation(
=0.8188) with in-situ data. For in-water algorithm applied to satellite data, reflectance band ratios of Landsat TM data were calculated. However, the results of applied Landsat TM had the low correlation, these reason were discussed in this paper.
The Site Analysis for Land Use Planing using Fuzzy Sets Theory and Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) - The Case Study of Technopark Planning in Pohang -

The Boolean logic analysis method using GIS as a spatial decision support system(SDSS) contains two problems. One is losing a lots of informations in analysis process, the other is unable to reflect of different weights between analysis items. The purpose of this study is to provide a new decision-making model for site analysis, that provides a rational and systemic way using fuzzy sets theory and analytic hierarchy process(AHP) theory. According to this study of technopark in Pohang, Boolean logic method did not reflect the influence of the differently weighted items and selected only 8.0% to 16.1% of the area for suitable sites for residence, commercial/research, park/green uses. The fuzzy sets theory and AHP theory method were able to reflect the influence of differently weighted items and selected 32.9% to 37.4% of the area for the best sites, and also provided more other kinds of informations. The results of this study show that GIS system using fuzzy sets theory and AHP proess method provides a more flexible and objective solutions for site analysis.
A Study on the Management System of the New Address -Grant Scheme of Road Name and Building Number in Cheongju City-

Present address system in korea was originally applied as a lot number system for the purpose of collecting taxes since 1910's, which has been changed irregularly by development of the urban areas. This unreasonable address system has disadvantaged the social welfare and the industrial structure, such as visiting, communication, delivery, sightseeing, marketing, transportation, etc. Therefore the new system, which would be rational and scientific, has been deeply demanded for the better services of spatial information and administrative efficiency of government. Korean government has launched the new address project as part of strengthening measures for national competitiveness since 1996. This paper would discuss the grant scheme of road name and building number in Cheongju city and evaluate the construction process of the new address management system.
A Study on the Spatial Distribution Characteristic of Urban Surface Temperature using Remotely Sensed Data and GIS

This study used four theoretical models, such as two-point linear model, linear regression model, quadratic regression model and cubic regression model which are presented from The Ministry of Science and Technology, for extraction of urban surface temperature from Landsat TM band 6 image. Through correlation and regression analysis between result of four models and AWS(automatic weather station) observation data, this study could verify spatial distribution characteristic of urban surface temperature using GIS spatial analysis method. The result of analysis for surface temperature by landcover showed that the urban and the barren land belonged to the highest surface temperature class. And there was also -0.85 correlation in the result of correlation analysis between surface temperature and NDVI. In this result, the meteorological environmental characteristics wuld be regarded as one of the important factor in urban planning.
