A Study on the Comparison of Channel Selection and Precision Geometric Correction for Image Restoration of an Submerged Water

It's a very meaningful experimental study to image restoration of ancient villages vanished at the real life spatial world. Focused on Cheung-Pyung Lake around where most part were flooded by the Chung-Ju large dam founded in early 1980s, we used remote sensing technique in this study in order to restore topographical features before the flood with 3 dimensional effects. It was gathered comparatively good satellite photos and remotely sensed digital images, then its made a new color image from these and the topographical map which had been made before filled water. This task was putting together two kinds of different timed images. And then, we generated DEM(digital elevation model) including the outskirts of that area as harmonizing current contour lines with the map. That could be a perfect 3D image of Cheung-Pyung around before when it had been flood by making perspective images from all directions, north, south, east and west, for showing there in three dimensions. Also, flying simulation we made for close visiting can bring us to experience their real space at that time.
An Automatic Method for Selecting Comparative Standard Land Parcels in Land Price Appraisal Using a Decision Tree

The selection of comparative standard parcels should be objective and reasonable, which is an important task in the individual land price appraisal procedure. However, the current procedure is mainly done manually by government officials. Therefore, the efficiency and objectiveness of this selection procedure is not guaranteed and questionable. In this study, we first defined the problem by analyzing the current comparative standard land parcel selection method. In addition, we devised a decision tree-based method using a machine learning algorithm that is considered to be efficient and objective compared to the current selection procedure. Finally the proposed method is then applied to the study area for evaluating the appropriateness and accuracy.
Comparison Study between Results of Ecosystem Model and Satellite Data in the Tokyo Bay

The hydro-dynamical and ecological coupled model were applied in the Tokyo Bay, to evaluate the flow pattern including water quality parameters and the distribution of biomass flux, and to compare with the results obtained from the satellite data during March 2001. The flow pattern and salinity distribution obtained from the present model were nearly identical with those of the previous studies. SST from NOAA/AVHRR was
higher than model results in the mouth of bay and
lower than model results in the inner bay, respectively. It was found that the concentration of chlorophyll-a estimated from SeaWiFS was considerably higher than that of model result, regardless similar distribution pattern. This disagreement will be studied through the more elaborate investigation in the future.
Runoff of an Small Urban Area Using DEM Accuracy Analysis

The purpose of this study is to analyze the urban hydrologic state by the use of GIS, resolution and interpolation. The determination coefficient(
) and Regression Formula were derived from the contour of digital map for the accuracy, and DEM data was made by using TIN interpolation by the size of the grid. By using the observed DEM data, topographical factors were extracted from the small basin, size, the width of a basin and the slope, and were applied in the urban runoff model. Through the model, we tried to find out the most suitable runoff model in a small basin of Yosu-Munsu area. As a result of applying models to the drainage considered, the runoff hydrograph estimated by SWMM model was closer to the observed one than that estimated by ILLUDAS model. The difference between the runoff hydrograph by SWMM and the observed one is maximum error of 19%, minimum error of 5% and average error of 13%. The influence of duration in contrast to pick time is insignificant in a urban small basin. As a conclusion of this study, SWMM model was more suitable and applicable for the urban runoff model than ILLUDAS model due to its accuracy and various abilities.
A Cartographic Generalization for Correcting Spatial Errors of Linear Features

This study aims to suggest new algorithm, named as Simoo, in order to improve spatial conflicts and vector displacement between linear features in generalization of the linear features. Main principles of Simoo algorithm is adoption of simplification and smoothening methods. Tolerance conditions used in Simoo are perpendicular length, external angle, and average vertex length. Main characteristics of Simoo are the application of scale, cartographic refinement, minimization of logical errors, and maintenance of geographical properties. The Simoo was applied through comparison to existing Douglas-Peucker algorithm. Resultantly, maintenance ratios of line such as coastal line and stream network were over 97% in both algorithms. The elimination ratio of vertex points may be more effective in Douglas-Peucker than in Simoo. Spatial conflicts between linear features may be more minimized in Simoo. The curvature and smoothening of lines become decreased in scale in application of Simoo. Finally, Simoo algorithm may be more effective than Douglas-Peucker for cartographic generalization.
Efficient Construction Method of Topographic Data for Flood Mapping Using Digital Map

Korea Water Resources Corporation carried out LiDAR survey to construct detailed terrain data for flood mapping and it is expected that much money is required in flood mapping of all over the country. Therefore, it is desirable to use NGIS digital map to construct preliminary modelling data for selection of flood mapping area. And the analysis of DEM error with respect to scale of digital map is necessary for the sake of applying digital map as the input data of flood mapping. We compared DEM from digital map with DEM from LiDAR survey. Especially we analyzed DEM error characteristics that is occurred with respect to the interpolation method that is used to construct DEM from TIN of digital map. As a result of analysis, digital map(1:1,000) showed smaller error than digital map(1:5,000) and DEM applying linear interpolation showed smaller error than DEM applying quintic interpolation. Especially, variation of DEM error by cell resolution was evaluated as very slight because urban district was composed of gentle slope.
Establishing the Managerial Boundary of the Baekdu-daegan(II) - In the Case of Semi-mountainous District -

Baekdu-daegan is the greatest mountain chain as well as the major ecological axis of the Korean Peninsula. In recent year, however, this area is faced with the various kinds of developmental urge. To cope adequately with these problems, this study was executed to prepare synthetic and systematic management with conservation-oriented strategy for Baekdu-daegan and to suggest spatially definite zoning for the managerial area. This study is to take into consideration the traditional concepts of stream and watershed as well as the actual disturbance on Baekdu-daegan area. The study area is selected with semi-mountainous type, from Namdeokyusan to Sosagogae. To propose the process for reasonably establishing the managerial boundary adjacent to the Ridges, the analysis was carried out that ArcGIS was mainly used for its analysis with digital maps, Landsat TM image and ArcGIS Hydro Model. Landsat TM image was classified by 5 land use types such as cultivated land, urban area, barren area, water body and forest. Based on these analyses results, the managerial boundaries as alternatives from the Ridges were produced by watershed expansion process, and used for tracing the changes of areal ratio of various land use types to the relevant watersheds to search out the adequate managerial boundary. The results show that watershed expansion process could be effective tool for establishing the managerial boundary, and eighth expanded watershed toward Muju-Gun(west) and fifth expanded watershed toward Geochang-Gun(east) might be included for the adequate managerial boundary of the case site.
Developing Landscape Analysis Method for Forest Fire Damaged Area Restoration Using Virtual GIS

In Korea the number of forest fire occurrence and its damaged area have increased drastically and the plans for afforestation such as sound erosion control restoration and forestation have performed to restore for forest fire damaged area. In this study fire resistant forest was developed by selecting fire resistance tree species and applying GIS analysis, considering the characteristic of forest fire and location environment in forest fire damaged area along the east coast. Moreover, it showed the possibility of how spatial information technology such as virtual GIS could be applied during restoring forest fire damaged area and approaching landscape ecology researches. Especially the fire resistant forest was established by using GIS analysis against large scaled forest fires then the best forest arrangement was performed through this fire resistant forest species and 3D modeling in study area. In addition, the forest landscape was established through site index on passing years and then 3D topography and tracking simulation, which is very similar to real world, were constructed by using virtual GIS.
Implementation of GIS-based Application Program for Circuity and Accessibility Analysis in Road Network Graph

Recently, domain-specific demands with respect to practical applications and analysis scheme using spatial thematic information are increasing. Accordingly, in this study, GIS-based application program is implemented to perform spatial analysis in transportation geography with base road layer data. Using this program, quantitative estimation of circuity and accessibility, which can be extracted from nodes composed of the graph-typed network structure, in a arbitrary analysis zone or administrative boundary zone is possible. Circuity is a concept to represent the difference extent between actual nodes and fully connected nodes in the analysis zone. While, accessibility can be used to find out extent of accessibility or connectivity between all nodes contained in the analysis zone, judging from inter-connecting status of the whole nodes. In put data of this program, which was implemented in AVX executable extension using AvenueTM of ArcView, is not transportation database information based on transportation data model, but layer data, directly obtaining from digital map sets. It is thought that computation of circuity and accessibility can be used as kinds of spatial analysis functions for GIS applications in the transportation field.
Analysis of Hydraulic Characteristics Using SMS RMA2 and SED2D Model in the Downstream of Gyeongan-Cheon

The purpose of this study is to analyze various hydraulic characteristics using SMS (Surface Water Modeling System) RMA2 model. It is based on 2-D finite element method. River reaches (13.8km) from Gyeongan gauge station to the inlet of Paldang lake was selected. Finite element was made by RIMGIS Data, and the analysis of river-changes was operated by unsteady flow. The sediment concentration and bed change was simulated using SED2D model. This River's velocity was distributed that 0.05~3.85m/s and bed change was changed about 0.0003~0.0135m.
