A Study on the Improvement of Land Suitability Assessment Results Using GIS Database

Land suitability assessment is the procedure that assesses development, agriculture or conservation suitability of land according to such criteria as soil, location and usability. But there are many problems to execute land assessment by law. Problems include inadequate basic data, lack of linkage with the spatial planning system, and inefficiency in operation. The purpose of this study is to improve methods of land suitability assessment as a sustainable land use management tool using case study. In this study, land suitability assessment will be executed through GIS. On the basis of the results of this case study, practical and institutional problems are described, and technical solutions are suggested.
Monitoring of the Changes of Tidal Land at Simpo Coast with Sea Surface inside Saemangeum Embankment Using Multi-temporal Satellite Image

This paper classifies the topography of the Saemangeum Tidal flats based on Landsat TM satellite images by unsupervised ISODATA method, and analysis of the spatiotemporal changes of the classified shapes. The sedimental topography represents various properties according to the Saemangeum Tidal Embankment progress. We well proceed this study of the sedimental changes and distributions. By specifying the topographic characteristics of inner sea areas respectively, the investigation on the case study area according to the changes of the tidal will be useful in the establishment of land reclamation plan and the land use of the reclaimed area. In addition, the estuary image can be divided into tidal flats and sea surfaces using the band 4, also the detailed topography using the band 5, respectively among Landsat TM 7 bands. This paper contributes to the efficient image processing of the spatiotemporal sedimental changes.
Reefer Container Monitoring System using Trajectory Information

As developing satellite communication, the tracking range of the moving objects which move in local area is expanded to the whole world. However previous logistics management system is able to monitor freight which transporting in local area using mobile communication system. In this paper, we propose the reefer container management system that manages the location information and other related information such as temperature, humidity of container using the satellite system. The proposed system consists of three parts; data collector, satellite communication manager, reefer container information manager. And the proposed system uses the moving object index for managing the trajectory of container and tracing the location of container or vessel that is transporting the container, and supports various services such as reefer container and vessel tracking, container control and container statistics to logistic companies like shipper and forwarding agent. And the system can be increasing the quality of container transportation service to the shipper, and it makes the efficient management of reefer container to the shipping company.
Classified Fishery Grade Using Analysis of Coastal Environmental Based on Object-Oriented Data Model

This paper will specify geo-objects and geo-fields of the geo-ecological contamination source and implement the system for evaluating an ocean Environmental contamination based on the spatial statistical analysis. In order to produce the grade of fishery that can evaluate the ocean effect, we will analysis the degree of the spatial correlation by semi-veriogram and predicate the elevation raster of spatial data using ordinary kriging method. This paper is to estimate the grade of fishery contamination region and produce the ratio of the area according to the fishery grade. Therefore, we can contribute to produce fishery grade that evaluates the ocean effect by means of deciding an efficient fishery environment.
Image-Based Modeling of Urban Buildings Using Aerial Photographs and Digital Maps

The VR (virtual reality) simulator such as helicopter simulation needs virtual environment of existing urban area. But the real urban environment keeps changing. We need a modeling method to make use of the GIS data that are updated periodically. The flight simulation needs to visualize not only buildings in near distance but also a large number of buildings in the far distance. We propose a method for modeling urban environment from aerial image and digital map with a comparatively small manual work. Image based modeling is applied to urban model which considers the characteristic of Korean cities. Buildings in the distance can be presented without creating a lot of polygons. Proposed method consists of the pre-processing stage which prepares the model from the GIS data and the modeling stage which makes the virtual urban environment. The virtual urban environment can be modeled with the simple process which utilizes the height map of buildings.
Comparison research of the Spatial Indexing Methods for ORDBMS in Embedded Systems

The telematics device, which is a typical embedded system on the transportation or vehicle, requires the embedded spatial DBMS based on RTOS (Real Time Operating System) for processing the huge spatial data in real time. This spatial DBMS can be developed very easily by SQL3 functions of the ORDBMS such as UDT (user-defined type) and UDF (user-defined function). However, developing index suitable for the embedded spatial DBMS is very difficult. This is due to the fact that there is no built-in SQL3 functions to construct spatial indexes. In this study, we compare and analyze both Generalized Search Tree and Relational Indexing methods which are suggested as common ways of developing User-Defined Indexes nowadays. Two implementations of R-Tree based on each method were done and region query performance test results were evaluated for suggesting a suitable indexing method of an embedded spatial DBMS, especially for telematics devices.
Evaluation of Landslide Susceptibility Using GIS and RS

This study aims at predicting and mapping of the landslide susceptibility in the Geumho river watershed using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques. We constructed the spatial database of affecting factors such as slope angle, slope aspect, lithology, landuse, and vegetation index (NDVI) at a
resolution. The landslide susceptibility of the study area was predicted through overlay analysis and adding up estimation matrix, and the predicted map of landslide susceptibility with six categories (stable, very low, low, moderate, high, very high) was constructed. As the results, it showed that the very high susceptibility zones made up approximately 0.3% of the total study area, and these zones were mainly distributed in the forest area with the high slope angle and low vegetation index.
A Study on Direct Georeferencing by Combined Multi-sensor

Direct Georeferencing by combined multi-sensor based on the direct measurement of the projection centers and rotation angle of sensor through loading the GPS and INS in aircraft. The method of combined multi-sensor can offer us to acquire the exterior orientation parameters with only minimum GCPs, even the ground control process could be completely skipped. Consequently, It is possible extreme to reduce the time and expense for the mapping process. In this study, a CCD camera is simultaneously used in combined multi-sensor surveying, and acquired CCD image through Direct Georeferencing produce digital orthoimage. In this process, methods of combining sensor and digital orthoimage are examined and estimated. For the comparison of the positioning accuracy digital orthoimage through Direct Georeferencing, GCPs determined by GPS surveying are used. Two digital orthoimage are produced; one with a few GCP and the other without them. The accuracy of orthoimages produced through combined multi-sensor with GCPs meets that of 1:1,000 maps. Without GCPs, it meets that of 1:5,000 maps.
The Building of the Environmental and Geographic Information System Based upon the Administrative Boundary

The goal of this study is to build the environmental and geographic information system according to the administrative territory in Gyeongbuk province in order to resolve the mismatch between the environment attribute information and geographic information system. In order to do that, this study reviews the characteristics of local geographic information system and environmental attribute information. After that, this paper tries to figure out the way of integration between geographic and environmental informations using the administrative unit code. The result of this study can provide the basic database for building the environmental policy and improve the reality of policy analysis because this method can provide the environmental attribute database with the administrative territory information. And it will contribute to improve the environmental management system and to build the other attribute databases for the local government.
