Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 1~9
This study was performed to analyze time series landuse pattern of urban areas and the change of the areas by using remotely sensed multiple sensors. The results were as follows. First, according to the result of time series analysis, most agricultural land has been changed into built-up areas by development work such as the land development or land readjustment project, arrangement of science parks or military facilities, and location of public establishment like government buildings. Second, if the expansion of built-up areas maintains the present scale and speed, it seems that a lot of parts of land would be changed into built-up areas, especially centering around agricultural land, so it is necessary to establish the plan for urban space. Third, I have synthetically collected the data of the project of urban development and systematically monitored the process of in expansion the built-up areas up to now (from the past). I hereby could lay the foundation that makes us scientifically forecast the direction of expansion in the built-up areas by the urban development in the future.

The change of stream creation has a very sensitive effect on runoff analysis model using the divergence characteristic of stream. Therefore, in this study, the threshold area of stream creation was examined the change characteristic of topographical parameters. The subject basin of the research was the upper basin of the Kumho water gage station which is located in the middle of the Kumho river. The 1:25,000 numerical geography which was constructed
mesh was used. The range of investigation of topographical parameters are number of stream order, length, area, slope, basin relief, sinuosity ratio, drainage density and total stream length etc. It was found from the result of analysis that the threshold value of 1st order stream has a very big effect on topographical parameters of basin. It was found that the threshold area of stream creation was under
, the parameters showed a big change but showed a very small change over

Kim, Jae Ik ; Yeo, Chang-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 21~30
The primary purpose of this paper is to prove a clear relationship among land use type, vegetation level and surface temperature. For this purpose, this paper presents series of spatial distribution maps of the three features obtained through the visual interpretation of digital images. The result of study tells us that the spatial distribution of the vegetation level is very similar with that of surface temperature. By analyzing the relationship between surface temperature and land use types, this study categorizes the eighteen urban land uses into 7-8 groups according to their average surface temperature. The Duncan test was conducted to categorize the land uses. The surface temperature of manufacturing related land use is the highest, semi-residential use is the next, non-residential land use is the next to the lowest, and the agricultural and forest land use is the lowest. This paper provides another strong evidence of the relationship by showing the regression result.

Lee, Hong-Ro ; Kim, Hyung-Moo ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 31~43
Four time points of the fractional area data during the 15 years of the highest group of land surface temperature and the lowest group of NDVl of the Kunsan city Chollabuk_do, Korea located beneath the Yellow sea coast, are observed and analyzed their correlations for the intention to detect the changes of urban land cover. As long as the effective contributions of satellite images in the continuous monitoring of the wide area for wide range of time period, Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ artificial satellite images, acquisited over the Kunsan city area, are surveyed by the compared calibration after quantization and classification of the deviations between TM and ETM+ images substituted approved error correction thresholds such as gains and biases or offsets. This experiment and research applied Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ artificial satellite images in change detection of urban land cover in urbanized Kunsan city, then detected strong and proportional correlation relationship between the highest group of land surface temperature and the lowest group of NDVI which exceeded R=(+)0.9478, so the proposed Correlation Analysis Model between the highest group of land surface temperature and the lowest group of NDVI will be able to give proof an effective suitability to the land city change detection monitoring.

Jo, Myung-Hee ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 44~54
In this study the tidal area in Seo han bay, North Korea was detected and extracted by using various satellite images (ASTER, KOMPSAT EOC, Landsat TM/ETM+) and GIS spatial analysis. Especially, the micro-landform was classified through the spectral characteristic of each satellite image and the change of tidal flat size was detected on passing year. For this, the spectral characteristics of eight tidal flat area in Korea, which are called as Seo han bay, Gwang ryang bay, Hae iu bay, Gang hwa bay, A san bay, Garorim bay, Jul po bay and Soon chun bay, were analyzed by using multi band of multi spectral satellite images such as Landsat TM/ETM+. Moreover, the micro-landform tidal flat in Seo han bay, North Korea was extracted by using ISODATA clustering based on the result of spectral characteristic. In addition, in order to detect the change of tidal flat size on passing years, the ancient topography map (1918-1920) was constructed as GIS DB. Also, the tidal flat distribution map based on the temporal satellite images were constructed to detect the tidal flat size for recent years. Through this, the efficient band to classify the micro-landform and detect its boundary was clarified and one possibility of KOMPSAT EOC application could be also introduced by extracting the spatial information of tidal flat efficiently.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 55~67
This study presented the route location method by applying AHP and evaluating quantitatively. This study developed the program that can be easily applied to this kind of road design, and built the decision support system for route location. The study results are summarized as follows ; We could quantitatively evaluate the appropriateness of exiting routes by applying the AHP based on GIS. If we apply this to the roads that will be newly constructed, we can make the objective and reliable route location when making road plans and basic designs. We improved the technique of route location by applying the decision support system with third-dimensional data, which considers even the vertical alignment plan, to the existing decision support system with second-dimensional data. And, since we can set those data such as vertical slope, earth-volume, structure size, location and construction cost to independent variables, we can make road designs more scientifically and reasonably.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 68~80
Parks became a matter of concerned among urban planning facilities that have not been executed for a long time because of the judgement of constitutional disagreement. This study deals with actual condition of constructing neighborhood park at the level of urban planning. In order to enhance the coefficient of citizens' utilization of parks. This study analyzes current situation of neighborhood parks and developing condition in Busan, revealing problems by investigating types of facilities under construction as well as by comparing size and progress of the parks under construction. This study tries different kind of access to the problems with the emphasis on estimation of planning and establishing neighborhood parks on the basis of the coefficient of citizens' utilization. Through the various examinations, this study brings into relief the problems being created in the course of establishment of parks which functions only as green tracts of land at present. As a result, the following conclusions could be made. First, from the viewpoint of location the parks, Busan parks are mostly located in the mountain areas adjacent to urban districts. Secondly, establishment of neighborhood parks is usually for development projects and the facilities introduced in them are monotonous. Thirdly, there is a tendency towards expansion of size and standardization of facility. Forthly, establishment plan of parks lacks profitability. Lastly, there is serious limitation in the size of land for developing neighborhood parks, and what is worse, there is no management of them.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 81~94
The purpose of this study is to test the applicability of landscape metrics for quantifying and monitoring the landscape structure in the Geumho River watershed, which has undergone heavy environmental disturbances. Landscape metrics were computed from land cover maps(1985, 1999) for the forest patches. The number of variables were reduced from 12 metrics to 3 factors through factor analysis. These factors accounted for above 91% of the variation in the original metrics. We also determined the relative effects of land development on the changes of forest landscape structure using multiple linear regression analysis. At the forest patches, the conversion of forest to urban areas and agriculture resulted in increased fragmentation. Patch area and patch size decreased. and patch density increased as a result of the conversion of forest to agriculture(
, p<0.01). The heterogeneity of patch size and complexity of patch shape mainly decreased as a result of the conversion of forest to urban areas(
, p<0.01). The density of core area and edge showed the tendency increase, but there was no relationship with the conversion of forest to urban area and agriculture The future research will be needed to analyze correlations between landscape structures and specific environmental and socioeconomic landscape functions.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 103~116
Although there have been many researches to construct a database of water distribution networks using GIS, most of them were not linked with an model for the analysis of pipe networks because it is difficult to make spatial data about complex water distribution networks for building a detail model. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the method based on GIS to build geographical data for design of water distribution pipeline systems. In this study, an innovated design support technique using GIS is proposed for a hydraulic analysis model of water distribution networks. With the function of spatial analysis in GIS system, the results from a pipe network model are used to analyze the suitability of the location of pipeline network, the spatial suitability comprised the analysis of the degree of pipe age, the altitude distribution of water pressure, and the water supply system for the customer.

In order to decrease the area damaged by forest fires and to prevent the occurrence of forest fires, we are making an effort to improve prevention measures for forest fires. This study was conducted to forecast risk regions where forest fires occur based on the factors of forest type and topographic characteristics and predict hazard regions where forest fires is expanded to large-scale forest fire based on the forest type characteristics in Uiseong-Gun. The results of classification of forest fire risk and hazard regions using GIS indicate 4% of the total areas in Uiseong-Gun.
Assessment of AnnAGNPS Model in Prediction of a Rainfall-Runoff Relationship
Choi, Kyung-Sook ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 125~135
Generation and transport of nonpoint source pollution, especially sediment-associated pollutants, are profoundly influenced by hydrologic features of runoff. In order to identify pollutant export rates, hence, clear knowledge of rainfall-runoff relationship is a pre-requisition. In this study, performance of AnnAGNPS model was assessed based on the ability of the model to predict rainfall-runoff relationship. Three catchments, each under different nearly single land use, were simulated. From the results, it was found that the model was likely to produce better predictions for larger catchments than smaller catchments. Because of using the daily time scale, the model could not account for short durations less than 24 hours, especially high intensity events with multiple peak flow that significantly contribute to the generation and transport of pollutants. Since CN information for regional areas has not been built up, a careful selection of CN is needed to achieve accurate prediction of runoff volume. Storm distribution also found to be considered as an important calibration parameter for the hydrologic simulation.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 145~156
An artificial disturbance like forest fragmentation has affected the sustainability of forest ecosystem. Therefore, in order to manage the forest ecosystem efficiently needed to analyze quantity and quality (structural pattern) of forest simultaneously. This study analyzed the structural patterns of forest landscape to provide a basic data for evaluation and management of forest ecosystem in Nakdong River Basin during 10 years from 1980s to 1990s using landscape indices and GIS methods. Forest distribution maps and 6 landscape indices(LPI, PD, ED, MSI, CPLAND, IJI) for the analysis were reconstructed from land-cover maps constructed by Ministry of Environment and pearson correlation analysis. According to the structural analysis of forest landscape using landscape indices, the forest fragmentation of watersheds along the main stream of the Nakdong river was more severe than any other watersheds. Futhermore, the Nakong-sangju and Nakdong-miryang watersheds had unstable forest structures as well as least amount of forest quantity. Thus, these watersheds need significant amount of forest through a new forest management policy considering local environmental conditions. The connectivity between forests in local regions should be considered as well.

Park, Kyung-Hun ; Oh, Jeong-Hak ; Jung, Sung-Gwan ;
Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 157~165
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between land use patterns of riparian zones and water quality in the Geumho River watershed. A GIS database included digital land use maps (1:25,000), stream network extracted from digital topographic maps (1:5,000) and riparian zones maps by multi-buffering method. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to explain the relationship between the environmental conditions of a 30 meter buffer strip on each side and water quality. According to the result of investigation of riparian-level land use patterns, sub-watersheds on the lower Geumho River including Daegu metropolitan city were mainly developed as urban area such as residential, commercial and industrial ones, while sub-watersheds on the middle Geumho River and the main course of Nakdong River, agricultural ones such as a paddy, a dry field and an orchard. Meanwhile, the area-rate of riparian forests which play an important role in filtering nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment was estimated below the average 16%. The proportion of urban area in a 30 meter riparian bufferstrip had a negative correlation with water quality in each sub-watershed. But the proportion of forest area had a positive correlation with water quality. Henceforth, it is necessary to establish landscape planning for preparing and restoring the riparian buffer zones, concerning land form, soil type, the present land use pattern and economic aspects.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 175~185
Governmental authorities have been trying to develop our city in respect to the growth of economy and it is true that their developmental policies have negative effects on ecosystem without doubt. To estimate these negative effects, this study is mainly focused on analysing the usage of the land according to the urban growth, and the temporal and spatial patterns between the elements which consist of the landscape of Daegu Metropolitan Sphere, by using the GIS method and the landscape indices. The results of the this study are as follow; the urban areas widened for
due to the shift of the urban function, and the forest areas were encroached for
into other landcover patterns. It was the shift of the agriculture areas that are given the most influence in those procedures since those developmental conditions are relatively satisfactory. Moreover the forest areas are structurally fragmented into the complicated form, and also the patterns of adjacent patches are become complex. These transitions are regarded as causes of increased external interventions to the forest areas, and these could possibly deteriorate the soundness of forest areas by reducing the core areas which are habitats of species. In conclusion, the results of this study evaluate the influence of much broader urban development on environment structure around urban and mutual relationship between them. In addition, it can provide methods and basic informations for the establishment of metropolitan urban plan after due considerations of the landscape ecological principle.

Journal of the Korean Association of Geographic Information Studies, volume 8, issue 2, 2005, Pages 186~195
Topography of beach line is keeping stability for several years, their soil values have been maintained in balances. Install of coastal structures have caused deformation for beaches and acted as a function to structures. Therefore, quantitative prediction of beaches topography according to structure install is required to prevent the beaches deformation and progress proper coastal preservation work. In this study, we analyzed coastal changes caused by erosion and accretion according to development and drew up a cross-section to share 8 stations using coordinates and depth surveying in groin of Soheuksan island port. Elevation distribution and changes by observation period is calculated -0.30m~+0.20m after comparing results of five months in October 7, 2004 surveying results and fell into insignificance. We thinks periodic observation of coastal erosion and accretion take place for the season and long-term coastal changes in beaches width is analyzed.
