Throughput Analysis of R-NAD in MIL-STD-188-220

The Republic of Korea Army is using R-NAD of MIL-STD-188-220 as a Media Access Control protocol. Under urgent situations, almost all stations transmit data frames and then the network will reach a saturation state. Several articles have been devoted to the study of R-NAD performance. However, most of them focus on comparing the performance of some NADs using network simulation tools. We propose an analytical model to compute the throughput of R-NAD under the assumption of a network traffic saturation. Analytical results were verified by Monte Carlo methods. We have shown that the performance of a success probability and an average idle time remains almost unchanged as the total number of stations increases. We have also shown that Type 1/2/4 operation mode outperforms Type 3 operation mode in throughput. The results showed that the system with a squelch detection achieved a better performance than the one without it. The longer DATA time had a higher throughput.

There were overwhelming high-frequency electromagnetic noises in 200kW-class hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) although EMC control strategy had been applied to cope with the electromagnetic noises during the development of HEV. This paper investigates the characteristics of the conducted and radiated emission noises, the source and path of noises, and the effects of EMI on the electronics. Finally the design concept of noise control is proposed.
A Study on the Correction of Error Induced by FTOD for Investigation of a Metal Jet Behavior

In this study, the behavior of a shaped charge projectile`s metal jet was analyzed using flash radiography. The projectile was installed horizontally to observe the behavior of jet for enough time. While the X-ray tube heads are fixed at one point, the behavior range of the jet is wide in this experimental set up, therefore the angle between the X-ray tube heads and the jet tip is changed continuously as jet moves forward. Jet particle`s locations calculated from the X-ray films become different from their real positions under this situation because of the film to object distance(FTOD) and correction for error by FTOD is required. In this study, a method was devised to correct the error by FTOD and this was applied for the investigation of jet behavior of a 70 mm caliber`s shaped charge.
A Study on Intial Susceptibility for the Prediction of Vertical Magnetization in Flash D Demagnetization

A permanent vertical magnetization should be obtained to counteract induced vertical magnetization due to the earth`s background field during the Flash D demagnetization process. A vertical susceptibility is needed to calculate a extra-permanent magnetization, which is needed to control the permanent vertical magnetization in stage 2 of Flash D demagnetization and added to the final vertical permanent magnetization. Two susceptibilities were found in this paper. One is obtained from the extra-magnetization. The other is obtained by magnetic field measurement from the scaled physical vessel when the vessel is excited by vertical magnetic field. The initial susceptibility by the extra-magnetization was 0.101~0.109 and the one from the measured magnetic field was 0.122. Two susceptibilities have a good agreement each other. From this paper, it is found that the susceptibility is able to appllied to calculate the extr-magnetization.
A Study on the Design of an Underwater Distributed Sensor Network for the Shallow Water by An Effectiveness Analysis

In this paper, we have described the characteristics of the Underwater Distributed Sensor Network (UDSN) and proposed the conceptual design guideline by an effectiveness analysis. To perform the effectiveness analysis, we defined an battlefield environment, and then analyzed principal components which compose the UDSN to find out simulation parameters and system constraints. We have chosen a measure of effectiveness based on a target trajectory, which could enhance intuitive understanding about current status, and performed various simulations to reveal critical design parameters in terms of sensor node types, arrangement, cost and combination of detection information.
Validation of Efficiency Analysis for Independent Multi-Phase BLDC Motor Using Hysteresis PWM Current Control Method

In this paper, the analysis and the experiment of independent multi-phase BLDC motor are performed. The back-emf, iron loss analysis are performed by the finite element method and compared with experimental results. The independent multi-phase BLDC motor is manufactured and to measure the efficiency of the motor, evaluation system is also manufactured including the load generator. By comparing the analytic and the experimental results, the effectiveness of the analysis model is verified when calculating the efficiency of the motor.
Single Sample Grouping Methodology using Combining Data

Combining similar data provides larger data sets through conducting test for homogeneity of several samples under various production processes or samples from different LOTs. The test for homogeneity has been applied to either variable or attribute data, and for variable data set physical homogeneity has been tested without consideration of the specification to the set. This paper proposes a method for test of homogeneity based on quality level through using both variable data and the specification. Quality-based test for homogeneity as a way of combining data is implemented by test for coefficient of variation in the proposed method. The method was verified through the application to the data set in open literature. And possibility to combine performance data for various types of thermal battery was discussed in order to estimate operation reliability.
The Analysis of Channel Characteristics on Downtown of Daejeon for K Band Satellite Communication

This paper describes the analysis results of channel characteristics in the operating area of satellite OTM (On-The-Move) terminal. The communication channel between the Koreasat-5 and OTM terminal on a test car was measured and recorded in downtown of Daejeon, using the received beacon signal of around 20 GHz. And the measurement data were statistically analyzed and then compared with highway and national road environments. The statistical evaluation of satellite channel was conducted by using probability density function and Markov model and then presented average connection duration(ACD), average fade duration(AFD), and level crossing rate(LCR) of downtown environment.
A Study on Low Phase Noise Frequency Synthesizer Design for Ku-Band

In the proposed paper, we designed low phase noise frequency synthesizer for Ku-band. The proposed up-mixing frequency synthesizer consists of narrow local oscillation part and variable frequency oscillation part. To improve the phase noise of frequency synthesizer, we analyze how the configuration of frequency synthesizer affect the phase noise. The implemented frequency synthesizer reduce the phase noise. The phase noise is -95.18dBc/Hz at 7kHz frequency offset in 16GHz and -94.27dBc/Hz at 7kHz frequency offset in 16.125GHz.
Caching Strategies of Content-Centric Networking for the Performance of TICN Backbone

Military communications have limited resources such as poor bandwidth and insufficient link capacity. Numerous hosts in conventional IP networks, including the Tactical Information Communication Network (TICN), the tactical communication system of the Army, focus heavy traffic on a single server via end-to-end connections and in which data delivery latency is caused by exchanging routing information. Content-Centric Networking (CCN), one framework of Information-Centric Networking (ICN), is a novel Internet paradigm in which data can be accessed by the name of the content instead of the location information. This paper provides content caching strategies for applying CCN to military tactical IP networks based on TICN environment.
Design and Experiments Analysis of MIMO Communication System for Ground Unmanned Systems

High-capacity video, control and situation awareness data should be transmitted efficiently to control robots properly in the ground unmanned system, which requires the technology maximizing the communication range and the data transmission throughput. This technology is connected to the OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access)-MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) transmission technology under the limited bandwidth and transmission power. In this paper, we design MIMO communication system for ground unmanned systems, and investigate the data reception performance experimentally, comparing with SISO(Single Input Single Output) system. Experiment results show that the data reception performance of MIMO is significantly improved compared to that of SISO, e.g. 4dB gain of sensitivity and 5dB of SNR at the value MPR
An Air Defence M&S Architecture Design Framework for a Reusability

In the development of the weapon systems, utilization of Modeling & Simulation is growing in every aspect of development process. For the higher utilization of M&S, reuse of the M&S resources is needed to reduce the cost of M&S. I propose the M&S architecture framework that can enhance the reusability of the M&S resources in developing surface-to-air weapon systems. This M&S architecture design framework enables interoperability between the system and sub-systems. In this paper, the advantage and the necessity of the M&S architecture design framework will be described by introducing the cases that the M&S architecture framework reused in the combat experiments, the system development tests, the system operational tests and the concept developments in real projects. These cases will show the high reusability and efficiency of the M&S architecture design framework.

The Battlefield Management System(BMS) of Ground Fighting Vehicles has employed its own message format but there have been requirements of using the standard message format, KVMF. To meet these requirements, we analyzed BMS and KVMF and incorporated KVMF into BMS. In this paper, we would like to introduce our implementation of KVMF in BMS.
A Study on the Transmittance, Heat-Resistance, and Mechanical Properties of SiO
Anti-Reflective Single Layers Deposited on Sapphire Substrate by MOCVD

To improve sensing capability of infrared, heat-resistance and mechanical properties, the
anti-reflective layers were coated on sapphire substrate by MOCVD. The standard wavelength was 4,600nm, and the thickness of anti-reflective layers were 379 and 758nm in case of
of incident angle(
), respectively. The
anti-reflective layers were coated 12.6 and 9.7nm/min of deposition rates by increasing oxygen pressure to set the ideal refractive index of 1.283. In case of
coating, the transmittance increased from 55.0 to 62.7%. The transmittance of
anti-reflective layer also increased from 55.0 to 64.8%. The flexural strength of
layer coated sapphire increased from 337.8 to 362.9 and 371.8MPa, respectively. The flexural strength at
of these materials also increased respectively to 304.5, 358.2MPa from 265.9MPa. From these results, we confirmed these materials can be used as transmission window of infrared light.
Improvement of ISAR Autofocusing Performance Based on PGA

PGA(phase gradient autofocus) has been widely used to remove motion induced phase errors in the ISAR(inverse synthetic aperture radar) imaging. The critical process for the processing time and image quality is windowing stage in PGA. In this paper, the new method to determine window size based on polynomial least square approximation is proposed. Moreover, dominant range bins are selected for efficient phase error estimation, which improve image quality and speed up convergence. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides high quality ISAR images while computational efficiency of inherent PGA is retained.
A Study on Optimizing Zinc-Air Batteries Using M&S

Zinc-air batteries which has various merits in the aspect of energy density, power density and price relative to lithium based second batteries were extensively investigated recently. To develope and optimize these zinc-air batteries, the method of M&S is so efficient solution to reduce price and time. Therefore, in this paper, after executing mathematical modeling, I optimized the zinc-air battery through the simulation and make bolt-cell and discharge it to compare with simulation result. As a result, predictions are well agreed with experimental results.
Modeling and Simulation of Secondary Battery-Fuel Cell Propulsion System for Underwater Vessel to Estimate the Operation Time

One of the most important devices in an underwater vessel is a propulsion system. It should be a quiet and efficient system for stealthy operations in the large mission area. Hence lead-acid battery system has been used to supply the energy to electric motor. Recent technological developments and improvements, such as polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM) fuel cell and lithium polymer battery and have created the potential to improve overall power and propulsion performance. An underwater vessel always starts their mission with a limited energy and is not easy to refuel. Therefore design of energy elements, such as fuel cell and battery, and their load distribution are important to increase the maximum operating time of underwater vessel. In this paper, the lead-acid battery/PEM fuel cell and lithium polymer battery/PEM fuel cell were suggested as propulsion system and their performances were analyzed by modeling and simulation using Matlab/Simulink. Each model concentrated on representing the characteristics of energy element depending on demand current. As a result the effect of load distribution between battery and fuel cell was evaluated and the operation time of each propulsion system was able to be estimated exactly.
A Study on an Image-Based Target Tracking Controller using a Target States Estimator for Airborne Inertially Stabilized Systems

An Image-Based Target Tracker maintains LOS(Line Of Sight) to a target by controlling azimuth and elevation gimbals of an ISS(Inertially Stabilized System). Its controller produces the gimbals commands of the ISS using tracking errors provided by an image tracker. The control performance of the target tracker with PI controller generally used for tracking controller is limited because of bandwidth limitation by time delay yielded by image capture and processing of the image tracker. In this paper, tracking controller using target states estimator is proposed which can enhance the tracking performance under the highly dynamic maneuvering conditions of the ISS and the target. Simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the tracking performance than that with only PI controller.
