A Study on Performance Characteristics of Semi-Active Suspension System of Tracked Vehicle
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 9~20
In this study, the performance of a semi-active suspension system for heavy duty tracked vehicles has been investigated. To this end, continuous and on-off Sky-Hook control law have been evaluated for a 1/4 car model. Simulation results show that the semi-active suspension system has potential to improve ride quality of the vehicle. And we proposed a method for improving of variable damper performance.
A Study of An Initial Alignment Method of Underwater Vehicle Dropped from Aircraft
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 21~29
The Strap Down Inertial Measurement Unit(SDIMU) is recently used for the sensor package of the modern underwater vehicles such as torpedoes and unmanned underwater-vehicles. For using SDIMU, an initial alignment must be carried out before the fire or navigation stage. The general initial alignment methods require that a mother vehicle Is a stationary condition or the Inertial Navigation System(INS) of vehicle is received the specific of data navigation from the mother vehicle. But an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft is hard to satisfy above both necessary conditions of the general initial alignment. So, we suggest a new strap down initial alignment method of an underwater vehicle dropped from aircraft without using any aided sensors. The highlight point of this method is that a period of initial alignment is not before the fire but during running stage to fix alignment error. And we verify it by analyzing various data of S/W simulations, Hardware In the Loop Simulation(HILS) tests and sea trials.
Development of Simulation Program for the Working Gas Flow of the Closed Cycle Diesel Engine
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 30~38
The measurement on the working gas flow in the closed cycle diesel engine is insufficient to Identify its operating condition because of lack of sensors available. For this reason, the determination of optimum operating condition and controller parameters requires heavy experimental efforts. A simulation program is developed to minimize the experimental efforts. For the development of the simulation program, mathematical models are derived based on the physical laws and linear regression. The validity of the simulation program is demonstrated using the measured data of the closed cycle diesel engine.
GPS Translator Design and Manufacturing for High Dynamic Vehicle
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 39~48
A GPS translator system is used to get the precise and reliable trajectory data for the high dynamic test vehicles, such as missiles or artillery shells. The missile system with high dynamics, vibration and shock needs to determine its position and velocity in particular. The proposed GPS translator on the test vehicle receives GPS signals, amplifies, down-converts, digitally samples, BPSK modulates, up-converts them to S-band, and then retransmits them to the ground translator processing station. It has doppler variation and signal noise, so design method for resolving them is proposed. The performance of the translator is proved by environmental test and real flight test.
The Design and Test/valuation of GPS Translator Processing System
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 49~58
Compared with generic GPS receiver, post-processing software GPS receiver has many advantages for high dynamic vehicle tracking. It has the advantage of the application of various tracking algorithms and aiding schemes. The post-processing system observes the carrier phase measurement data from the recorded GPS signals, detects and isolates the cycle slip. The observed carrier phase data and the raw data of the reference station are processed by carrier phase DGPS scheme. And the integer ambiguity resolution algorithm is used for resolving single frequency carrier phase ambiguity. The results of static and real flight test are presented and show that the proposed GPS translator processing system satisfies submeter accuracy
Multipath Error Mitigation using Differenced Autocorrelation Function
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 59~67
Multipath is an inevitable error source in radio navigation system such as GPS, it causes signal tracking errors such as carrier tracking errors, code tracking errors. Since code tracking error is a dominant error in absolute positioning, this paper focuses on the improvement of code tracking performance. This paper proposes a method that detects the change of autocorrelation function's slope and mitigates the multipath error. Also, this paper shows the performance evaluation results by post-processing the digitized RF samples.
Process Design of Titanium Alloy Backward Extrusion
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 68~80
The backward extrusion process of titanium alloy with large length to diameter ratio was simulated for different punch and die shape. The process variables such as initial billet shape, interface friction, contacting time and punch velocity were investigated and compared with experimental results. To make more effectively titanium alloy cup shape forging products with vertical wall, a modified die design which can reduce forging load, prevent sticking with punch and minimize material loss was suggested.
A Study of Voice signal Capture for communication in the AFV
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 81~90
In the military communication environment, it is very difficult to obtain clear voice signal due to the high level noise. The purpose of this study is to find out the best body spot to get the vocal chords signal by measuring the skin or the bone conducting vibrations of different body positions within the noise environment. Based on the experimental study, it was found out that the measurement of sound signal within the ear is the best way to get the voice which comes from the vocal chords and this method can prevent the interruption of noise. This study will give the effective voice communication method in the high noise environment and be applicable to military purpose.
The Reduction of the Searching Candidates for the GPS Signal Acquisition
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 91~107
A 2-dimensional search process in the time and frequency domain is required to acquire the GPS signal, when the code phase and the carrier Doppler for the specified GPS satellite signal are unknown. This paper proposes a new scheme, called Squared-D Searching Method, which can reduce the number of carrier frequency candidates, and a new scheme, named extended Multiple Correlator(XMC), which can reduce the number of code phase candidates. The Squared-D Searching Method can take the twice of Doppler frequency, therefore it can find carrier frequency candidates. The XMC is different from the general multiple correlator in that a combined form of the locally generated codes is used for despreading. Also, this paper tries to analyze a signal detection probability of a GPS receiver under more realistic environments. The result shows that lower detection probability can be obtained when the phase differences among the codes are larger in the correlation arms of a multiple correlator. This phenomenon is not easy to explain with the previous results. And besides, the result shows that proposed acquisition schemes give better performance than a conventional acquisition scheme.
Advances synthesis process of TNAZ
Journal of the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology, volume 6, issue 1, 2003, Pages 108~115
TNAZ is a high explosive material because it is a highly strained ring compound containing one nitramine and gem dinditro groups. 1-t-butyl-3-nitroazetidine which was used as an intermediate previously, which declined the overall yield in synthesizing TNAZ. We obtained 1-t-butyl-3-hydroxymethyl-3-nitroazetidine in 64% yield from advances process which was used in synthesis of 1-t-butyl-3-nitroazetidine. The reaction pathway, shortening of reaction time, together with improvement of yield were studied too. We have obtained TNAZ in 85% yield.
