The Flame Stability and the Emission Characteristics of Turbulent Premixed Flat Burner

The purpose of this study is to conduct a survey of the flame stability range and the emission characteristics for the optimum design of turbulent premixed flat burner. For that, the flame stability range was selected by the direct photography of the flame. And the mean temperature and CO, HC,
concentration distributions by changing the excess air ratio were measured. As results of this study, the flame stability range turned out to be getting narrower as fuel flow was increased. The blue flame mode was more excellent than any other flame modes in the emission characteristics by excess air ratio change. And the emission characteristics by fuel flow change were best at fuel flow 1l/min. Also, we found combustion noise during experiment of flame stability range. It had nothing do with excess air ratio range.
Diesel Engine Combustion Characteristics on the Natural Gas Mixing

In this study, a new method of combustion characteristics have been proposed to reduce exhaust emissions in a diesel engine using four kinds of mixed fuel. Mixed fuels show four different torque ratios between diesel oil md natural gas, which are 4:0, 3:1, 2:2 and 1:3. In order to investigate the exhaust gas during combustion, exhaust gases are sampled by gas analyzer, for example NOx, Soot, CO, and HC, as the RPM changed. As a result, the NOx, CO, and HC concentrations of mixed fuel are higher than those of diesel oil only. However, the Soot concentration of mixed fuel is lower when diesel oil is burned.

It is very insecure to treat a butane can for cooking out of door. The human injury from the accidents of butane cans has been getting increased 1.5 times yearly since 2003. In this context, the Institute of Gas Technology Training in Korea Gas Safety Corporation carries out explosion experiment to make trainees to take all possible measures to ensure safe management of gas in the field by fully recognizing the hazards of gas explosion accidents. This study intends to examine the influence of such explosion experiments on the trainees witnessing nearby. The GEN exposed to the active students participating in the experiment away from 25 meters from the explosion site was 57.94 dB and the GEN to the passive students not participating away from 50 meters was 51.92 dB. According to Weber-Fechner's law for the lower value than 65 dB which is the environmental standard, it is safe from the place 15 meter far from the explosion place. The environmental standard of offices is 50 dB, and it is lower than the environmental standard if the office is 65 meter far from the explosion place.
Standards of Distance between Gas Pipeline and Tower Ground

The fault current through the earth originated from a power line ground fault might cause arcing through the soil to an adjacent pipeline, which might bring about not only a catastrophic accident such as gas explosion and oil leakage but also a hazard to the safety of workers responsible for the maintenance and repair of the pipeline. In this paper we investigated the arcing phenomena through soil between a power line tower and a pipeline and outlined the standards for the separation distance of a buried pipeline adjacent to the power line tower.
Experimental Investigation on Cracks and Defects of a Valve Sealing Components for a LPG Cylinder

This paper presents an experimental investigation on the sealing defects and cracks of O-rings and a valve packing of a gas valve for a LPG cylinder. O-ring in which stops a gas leakage of a liquefied petroleum gas is very important for a LPG valve safety. Valve packing is to open and close a gas flow port for supplying and charging a LPG fuel. The sealing performance of two sealing units ism related to the leak safety and long lift of a gas valve. The investigated results show that most of O-rings was failed due to a circumferential crack in which is caused by partial press bonding failure near the partition zone and an excess compression rate. Some of the O-ring failure was originated by an extrusion of an excessive leak pressure of a LP gas. Thus, this paper strongly recommends a tight quality control and a safety guarantee system of O-rings and valve packing to guarantee a leak safety and to extend a service lift of a gas valve. At the end, a warranty policy of the sealing units should be adopted for increasing a product quality and safety of a gas valve.

Numerical Study on the Sealing Safety of a Valve Packing in a LPG Cylinder

In this paper, the FEM result has been presented for a sealing safety between a valve packing and a valve seat during a open and close operation in a LPG cylinder. The sealing operation of a LPG valve is completed when the valve packing in which is made by a nylon-66 polymer is to stop a LP gas flow, which flows out from the outlet of a brass pipe in a LPG cylinder. The contact sealing mechanism of the valve may be classified by a flat contact of an unused valve packing and a circular groove contact of an used valve packing in a current LPG valve. Based on the FEM and experimental investigations the sealing force, 4.9 MPa for a flat contact mode of the unused valve packing is a little high compared to that of the used valve packing, which shows a circular groove contact geometry against a valve seat. But these sealing pressures for two contact modes are very low compared to the ultimate strenath 83 MPa of the nylon-66 and this may be designed with a excess strength of the valve.

Performance Test and System Analysis on Check-Floater in a Coil-Typed LP Gas Vaporizer

The metering systems in LPG vaporizers have been frequently exposed to severe conditions and resulted in many problems such as gauge malfunctioning and rupturing if the check-floaters fail to stop liquid outflow when the heat supply for the vaporization of LPG is interrupted. Therefore, to analysis the vaporizer system we carried out the vaporizer performance test and float bulb test by newly devised test equipments. Consequently, we determined the specific gravity of the float bulb and reasonable operating temperature ranges for the LPG and heating waters.

Carbon monoxide is a conventional contaminant in the fuel obtained from reforming processes with an important influence on the performance of the PEMFC. The studies of continuous injection of CO presented (5-20 ppm) with the time gave information about poisoning and recovery processes of the stack.
