A Study of 123 prescriptions in high-chepter from Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun (Mainly Basic-prescriptions)

This report describes the studies as follows through the research of Basic-prescriptions about 123 prescriptions in high-chepter(上統) from Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun(方藥合編). There are 24 Basic-prescriptions including Sagunja-tang(四君子湯), Samul-tang(四物湯), Sogeonjung-tang(小建中湯), lijung-tang(理中湯), Dangguibohyul-tang(當歸補血湯), Yijin-tang(二陳湯), Gauwon-chun(擧元煎), Jeongweon-eum(貞元飮), and Yukmichiwhang-won(六味地黃元), etc. about 123 prescriptions in high-chepter(上統) from Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun(方藥合編). There were many cases compounding the Basic-prescriptions each other. So I investigated those cases. The results were the other typed (blended) Basic-prescriptions including Palmul-tang(八物湯), Sipjeondaebo-tang(十全大補湯), Yukgunja-tang(六君子湯), Bojungyikkee-tang(補中益氣湯), SsangHwa-tang(雙和湯), and Gwibitang(歸脾湯). And I investigated about pathologies in connection with these Basic-prescriptions. Oriental Medical Pathology applied with these Basic-prescriptions were Giheo(氣虛), hyulheo(血虛), Gihyulguheo(氣血俱虛), Biheohan(脾虛寒), Giheo-dameum(氣虛痰飮), Giheohaham(氣虛下陷), Sineumheo(腎陰虛), etc. These results indicated that 123 prescriptions in high-chepter from Bang-Yak-Hap-Pyun are composed of Bojei(補劑) to treatment against many kinds of Infirmity and promote physiological function.
A Study On Compositions and Dosages of Yukmijihwang-Hwan by Literature Review on the classics of Oriental Medicine

Objectives : The result is the followings after investingating composition, dosage and usage of Yukmijihwang-Hwan(六味地黃丸) in literature by country and Era. Methods : Investigated Classics of Oriental Medicine that Yukmijihwang-Hwan is first described. Results : Found 42 literatures searching Yukmijihwang-Hwan in Classics of Oriental Medicine. Literature that Yukmijihwang-Hwan is recorded by first was Yinhaijingwei(銀海精微), but capacity has not recorded. Yukmijihwang-Hwan Medicinal Decoction that eat(Yukmijihwang-Tang: 5 times) as pill than eat(Yukmijihwang-Hwan: 37 times) was more. Literature that composition of Yukmijihwang-Hwan is recorded by Rehmannia glutinosa(熟地黃) is 8 Ryang(兩), Poria cocos(白茯苓) is 3 Ryang, Paeonia suffruticosa(牧丹皮) is 3 Ryang, Alisma Canaliculatum (澤瀉) 3 Ryang, Cornus officinalis(山茱萸) 4 Ryang, Dioscorea batatus(山藥) 4 Ryang was most. Conclusions : Yukmijihwang-Hwan wat difference in composition and capacity that Chinese and Korean Classics of Oriental Medicine. After Dongeuibogam of the Korea is published, composition and capacity are connected until today.
Literature on Applications of Prescriptions Including Pueraria Thunbergiana Bentham in Dongueibogam

This report carried out to study 59 prescriptions related to the use of Pueraria thunbergiana bentham in Dongueibogam This study is based on Dongueibogam which has been widely used for herbal clinic in Korea. And this study is investigated to make sure of the range of treatment, nature of disease, the pathology and the dosage of Pueraria thunbergiana bentham in Dongueibogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that used in Dongueibogam as a various role. 1. The prescriptions that Pueraria thunbergiana bentham was taken as a 15 for monarchy, 15 for attendant, 11 for assistance and valet herb are utilized for therapeutic treatments such as cough, fever etc, mainly Sanghan syndromes in the chapter of Wind. 2. The Pueraria thunbergiana bentham was also utilized as a key ingradients in the chapter of Eye and Onyeok epidemic. 3. The most frequent mass of the Pueraria thunbergiana bentham when used as a monarchy herb is 2jeon, and the standard limited range of adding Pueraria thunbergiana bentham to medical prescription is 7pun
5jeon per dose. But, when used as a attendant herb, an typical and regular adding dose is the range of 3pun5ri
1.5jun in the case of assistant. 4. The phathogenic factors and phathology of Pueraria thunbergiana bentham in the prescription are based on the chapter of Cold when used as a monarchy herb and on the chapter of Wind in the case of attendant herb. 5. The Seungmagalgeontang is the most useful base prescription which use the Pueraria thunbergiana bentham as the main ingredient.
Literature Study on Bojoongikgitang and Clinical Application

To beef up natural immunity, we have used Bojoongikgitang which has been known to treat enervation in the oriental medicine. This study is analyzed out structure material and the chief virtue of a prescription through Literature Study on Bojoongikgitang and Clinical Application. And this study is investigated to make sure of the necessity and additional symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang. The results are as follows : 1. It is regarded that the structure materials of Bojoongikgitang consist of Astragali Radix one jeon(錢) five poon(分), Ginseng Radix, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix one jeon for each, Citri Pericarpium, Angelicae Gigantis Radix five poon for each, Cimicifugae Rhizoma, Bupleuri Radix three poon for each. 2. The necessity symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang are a pale complexion, drowsy eyes(目無精光), vigorless, lethargy, sluggish talk. 3. The fittest prescriptions prior to the necessity symptoms in using Bojoongikgitang are Bojoongikgitang added Paeoniae Radix Alba, Scutellariae Radix in fever, exterior heat, mild fever, Bojoongikgitang added Ephedrae Radix, Tritici Fructus Levis, Aconiti Iateralis Preparata Radix in spontaneous sweating, spontaneous sweating by yang deficiency, Bojoongikgitang added Paeoniae Radix Alba, Scutellariae Radix in feeling the pulse like a flood, largeness and weakness, scatter and largeness, flood and largeness for diagnosis respectively. Bojoongikgitang Entering the heart channel by culturing the blood prescription in vexation, vexation and anxiety, Soongihwajoongtang in headache, DossiBojoongikgitang in rigor, Bojoongikgitang annexed Saengmaecsan in thirst, Daninsamtang or Jojoongikgitang in asthma, asthma by congestion of the upwardness, Eeegongsan in light eating, eschewing food, losing one's appetite, Ikweeseungyangtang in deficiency failing to control blood and blood collapsey. 4. To treat a functional disease is superior to organic one in using Bojoongikgitang.
A Study on Applications of Prescriptions including Semen Arecae as a Main Component in Dongeuibogam

This report describes 46 studies related to prescriptions which are mainly used Semen Arecae from Dongeuibogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the prescriptions that use Semen Arecae as a main component. 19.6% of a malaria, 17.4% of an evacuation problem, recorded the largest number of clinical frequency of the prescriptions in therapeutic use when Semen Arecae was taken as a main component in prescriptions Prescriptions that utilize Semen Arecae as the main ingredient are used in the treatment of a malaria, an evacuation problem and a malignant dermatosis. they are also used for treating 11 different types of diseases. The prescriptions are compounded with Semen Arecae as a main component which can be applied to an affection by wind-cold, a heat(fire) syndrome, a cold-stroke, a phlegm-retention syndrome, a constipation induced by apoplexy, a stagnation of vital energy, an asthenia of the spleen and the stomach, a convulsion caused by improper diet, a parasitic infestation and a traumatic disease. The dosage of Semen Arecae is 2.5pun(nearly 0.94g) to 3don(nearly 11.25g), however 1don(nearly 3.75g) has been taken the most for clinical application. When Semen Arecae is combined with basic prescriptions such as Ijintang and Bulium, it applies symptoms of malaria. In addition, when Semen Arecae is combined with basic prescriptions such as Daemainhwan, Soseungkitang and Samatang, it utilizes an evacuation problem.
A Review of Statistical Analysis Methods Applied on Traditional Korean Medicine Research

Objective : The purpose of this study is to indicate of problems in statistical analysis method of "The Korean Journal of oriental Medical Prescription" and we will be proposed the useful application of the statistical analysis method. Methods : In this paper, we were analysed statistical analysis methodology from published journal articles "The Korean Journal of Oriental Medical Prescription" December, year 2000 to December, year 2008. We were investigated of problems in application of structured analysis methods those journal articles that including statistical analysis techniques and analysis methods. Results : 1. A random allocation of the experimental group and control groups are important factors in the planning process of statistical analysis. However, there are less explanation those journal articles. 2. There are no consideration in specimen size that there will be considerate by the level of significance and statistical test. 3. Many article authors were confused between parametric methods and non-parametric methods that they were applied parametric statistical analysis methods although inapplicable sample size. 4. There were applied the parametric methods consists of t-test instead non-parametric methods in the comparison of average intergroup relations. 5. There were less understanding posterior analysis and were confused with t-test. Conclusion : Our goal was to outline the key methods with a brief discussion of problems(statistical analysis methods), avenues for solutions. we recommend authors to use an appropriate statistical analysis methods for obtaining a more cautions results.
Application of Persicae Semen Main Blended Prescriptions In Dongueibogam

In the oriental medicine, the Persicae Semen is a useful material for promoting blood circulation through removement of the extravasated blood in a blood vessel. This study is based on Dongueibogam, which has been widely used for herbal clinic in Korea. And this study is investigated to make sure of the range of Persicae Semen treatment, the nature of disease, the pathology and the dosage of it in Dongueibogam. The following conclusions were reached through investigations on the main prescriptions that used in Dongueibogam as a key ingredient. 1. The prescriptions of blending with the Persicae Semen are utilized in 25 fields of treatments such as feces, uterus, blood diseases, etc. 2. The Persicae Semen is used in the treatment of constipation, removement of blood stasis of gynecology. 3. The average mass of the Persicae Semen is 0.352g, the standard limited range of adding the Persicae Semen to medical prescription is 0.5

40pieces per dose. But, in most case of treatment medicines, an typical and regular adding dose is the range of 2
4g. 4. The Persicae Semen is one of basic materials for a fundamental prescription among several herbal remedies for the pathology.
Anti-rheumatiod Arthritis Effects of I-Myo-San Water Extract

Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by focal loss of cartilage due to an up-regulation of inflammatory pathways, which produce pro-inflammatory mediators, such as interleukin-1(IL-1), tumour necrosis factor alpha(
), prostaglantin, and nitric oxide(NO). We investigated the anti-arthritic effects of water extracts from Pellodendri cortex and Atractylodis rhizoma in vitro and in vivo. Each extract suppressed the production of inflammatory mediators(NO,
, and prostaglandin
) and the expression of inducible NO synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages in a dose-dependent manner. These suppressive effects were synergistically increased by their combination. The same results were also observed in the rat osteoblast sarcoma cell line ROS17/2.8 stimulated with
. Moreover, the combination of these water extracts significantly suppressed collagen-induced mouse arthritis. These results suggest that the combination of water-extractable components of Pellodendri cortex and Atractylodis rhizoma may be useful for therapeutic drugs against rheumatoid arthritis, probably by suppressing the production of inflammatory mediators.
Effect on Human Sperm of Adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan Prescription

Objectives : This study focuses on the effect of the extract which We manufactured by adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan on the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm. Methods : We observed any changes in the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm after orally administering the test drug for thirty days and taking semen samples from a selected group of men - healthy men in their 20s, as well as men in their 40s who were feeling a decrease in energy. Results : This experiment showed the result that the amount of semen increased by adding Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan in the case of men in their 20s, but did not show a statistically significant result. It showed the result that the amount of semen increased by a statistically significant level as well as the activity of sperm. Consequently, the result indicated that orally administering the extract added Aliium sativum to Ojayeonjonghwan increased the amount of semen, the number and the activity of sperm for men in their 20s. Men in their 40s who are feeling a decline in energy generally decreased the amount of semen, the number and the ratio of activity of sperm. However the amount of semen remarkably increased and the number and the activity of sperm increased but the result was not statistically significant after orally administering the test drug for thirty days. Conclution : Eventually, the result after orally administering the test drug to the group of men in their 20s and 40s for thirty days indicated that both groups increased the amount of semen, number of sperm and activity of sperm to a statistically significant degree.
Processing of Vinegar Using Gyoungok-go

Gyoungok-go (GOG; Qiongyu-gao in Chinese) has been used in traditional oriental medicine for the improvement of various physiological vitality functions. The aim of present work is to investigate a processing possibility of vinegar using GOG. GOG vinegar was prepared by two stage fermentations of alcohol and vinegar. The method of GOG fermentation with polished rice as a fermentation substrate is not yet established. The result of alcohol fermentation rate of GOG with some strains, strain No. 1 produced the highest alcohol contents among 7 strains. The strain No. 1 identified Saccharomyces paradoxus by 18S rDNA classification. S. paradoxus was produced over 20% alcohol in the 1
11% GOG with polished rice. A. aceti was produced 8.52% acetic acid from 6.5% alcohol containing 11% GOG, after incubation for 11 days.
Effects of Moutan Cortex on Corticotropin-Releasing Factor, c-Fos and Tyrosine Hydroxylase in Forced Swimming Test

Objectives : The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of Moutan Cortex as antidepressant in forced swimming test(FST) model. Methods : The expressions of corticotropin-releasing Factor(CRF), c-Fos and tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) were measured with immunohistochemical method at paraventricular nucleus (PVN), locus coeruleus(LC) and ventral tegmental area(VTA). Results : The duration of immobility in the forced swimming test was significantly decreased in the Moutan Cortex 100 mg/kg treated group in comparison with the control group(p<0.01). CRF and c-Fos expressions at PVN were decreased in the Moutan Cortex 100mg/kg treated group in comparison with the control group. But only the expression of c-Fos was shown the significance(p<0.05). TH expressions at LC and VTA were significantly decreased in the Moutan Cortex 100mg/kg and 400mg/kg treated group in comparison with the control group(p<0.001). Conclusion : According to the results, Moutan Cortex has the antidepressant effect by showing the reduced immobility through the reduction of c-Fos expression at PVN and the reduction of TH expression at LC and VTA.
A Noble Therapeutic Approach of Atopic dermatitis by Development of Th2 Chemokine Inhibitors from Natural Products : Inhibitory Effect of Sophora flavescens Extract in Atopic Dermatitis Model mice, NC/Nga

We investigated the inhibitory effect of an oral administration of a Sophora flavescens Aiton ethanol extract (SFE) on the development of atopic dermatitis (AD) by using NC/Nga model mice. The induction of atopic dermatitis-like lesion was conducted by the removal of the back hairs and topical application of a mite antigen (Dermatophagoides farinae, Df) on to the back skin twice a week for 8 weeks. SFE was orally administered at a different doses (100-400 mg/kg). Atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions were evaluated by dermatitis scores, skin histology and immunological parameters (serum levels of IgE, TARC/CCL17, MDC/CCL22, and CTACK/CCL27). Oral administration of SFE significantly inhibited the clinical sign of Df-induced atopic dermatitis, including dermatitis score and leukocyte infiltration. Moreover, SFE suppressed significantly the serum IgE and Th2 chemokine (TARC/CCL17, MDC/CCL22, and CTACK/CCL27) levels in a concentration dependent manner. These results suggest that oral administration of SFE could reduce significantly the clinical signs and Th2 chemokines in Df-induced atopic dermatitis model mice. Therefore, SFE may be effective substances for the management of AD in human.
A study on Application for Beauty Food of Mixture of Korean Red ginseng and Fagopyrum esculentum : Anti-oxidative Effect and Collagenase Inhibitory Activity

Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, Korean herb medicine, has been widely used in China and Japan for fatigue and enhancement of resistance to many diseases. In this study, we investigated the synergistic effect of Korean red ginseng and Fagopyrum esculentum extracts (RGFE) on dermal bioactive properties. RGFE treatment significantly increased electron donating ability, nitrite scavenging activity and collagenase inhibitory activity compared to red ginseng-treated group. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in RGFE-treated group was similar to that of red ginseng. However, tyrosinase activity as indicator of melanin synthesis was not affected by RGFE or red ginseng. The results indicate that RGFE has anti-oxidative property and inhibitory effect of collagenase, and it may serve as a effective ingredient for beauty food.
Effects of Gardeniae Fructus on Corticotropin-Releasing Factor, c-fos and Tyrosine Hydroxylase in Forced Swimming Test

Objectives : The goal of this study was to investigative the effect of Gardeniae Fructus (GF)as antidepressant in the forced swimming test(FST) model rats. Methods : The expressions of corticotropin-releasing factor(CRF), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and c-fos were measured by immunohistochemical method at paraventricular nucleus(PVN), locus coeruleus (LC) and ventral tegmental area(VTA). Results : The duration of immobility in FST was significantly decreased in the GF 100mg/kg groups (p<0.05). CRF expression was significantly decreased at PVN in the GF 100 mg/kg and 400mg/kg treated group in comparison with the control group, respectively (p<0.01). c-fos expression was decreased at PVN in the GF 100 mg/kg treated group with no significance. TH expression was significantly decreased in the GF 100 mg/kg and 400mg/kg treated group in comparison with the control group, at LC and VTA respectively (p<0.001). Conclusion : According to the results, it can be considered that Gardeniae Fructus has antidepressant effect by showing the reduction of immobility in FST through the reduction of CRF, TH expression.
Anti-inflammtory effects of the MeOH extract of Petiolus Nelumbinis

Petiolus Nelumbinis, branches of lotus leaf or lotus flower is a traditional oriental herbal medicine widely used for treating a superheat or disorder of qi flow. Although there are many clinical results and literature study, it has been rarely conducted to evaluate the immuno-biological activity. The present study was conducted to examine the anti-inflammatory effects of PNM (Petiolus Nelumbinis MeOH extract) in vitro. To determine cytotoxic concentration of PNM, the cells were treated with PNM for 24 h after LPS addition, and the cell viability was tested by MTT assay. Both of dosages (30 and 100
) of PNM had no cytotoxicity. In these concentrations, PNM significantly reduced the elevated levels of NO and
by LPS. These inhibitory effects of PNM were due to the reduced expressions of iNOS and COX-2 protein. TNF-
and IL-6 are frequently encountered pro-inflammatory cytokines, and LPS plays a key role in inducing to the massive production of these cytokines. Thus, we next determined the levels of these cytokines. Although PNM had no significant inhibitory effect on the production of TNF-
, the elevated levels of IL-1
and IL-6 by LPS were dose-dependently reduced in PNM-treated groups. These results demonstrate that PNM has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines, NO and
in LPS-activated macrophage. Moreover, the reduction of NO and
levels was due to the inhibition of iNOS and COX-2 protein expression by PNM.
