BIM Based Intelligent Excavation System

Earthwork is important in terms of construction time and duration, and highly related to the construction productivity. However, current earthwork system has stick to labor intensive process depending on skilled operator's heuristic decision making, so it is hard to improve overall productivity. To overcome this drawback, this paper presents a BIM based Intelligent Excavation System(IES). The BIM technology is applied in the excavation task planning system, Human-Machine Interface for remote-control/autonomous work environment, and web-based Project Management Information System(PMIS) in the IES integration process, and the results are addressed.
Development of BIM for a Maintenance System of Subway Infrastructures

BIM(Building Information Modeling) technologies are the most effective for the maintenance of infrastructures because they provide information sharing througout the life-cycle of structures and support close communication between different project stages. Systematic and well-organized data play a fundamental role for the effective maintenance of subway tunnel. In this paper, 3D information models for maintenance of BIM-based subway tunnel structures are developed. Standard classifications for the maintenance and construction information classification system were adopted. A classification system based on construction information classification system was built considering procedures of maintenance work. It provides optimization and standardization of the work flow for the maintenance of subway structures by applying information modeling processes instead of the current maintenance practices. It can effectively reduces the life cycle cost and time for the maintenance. The proposed system can be utilized for the maintenance history management to enhance current maintenance system.
The case study of BIM-based quantity take-off for concrete and formwork

Currently, a lot of design, engineering and construction companies has been interested in BIM(Building Information Modeling) technologies for higher productivity and efficiency. The information provided from BIM can be mostly used for automated quantity takeoff. But BIM has some problems for fully automated quantity takeoff to solve. The purpose of this study is to show the problems and suggest solutions through case study, especially with concrete and form work.
A Study on Cost Estimate for Building Parts in the Schematic Design Phase -Focusing on Educational Research Facility-

Construction cost estimation in the early phase provides the opportunity to make reasonable decisions related to the project. For estimating this cost, various methods have been developed. But several problems have been recognized like accuracy, relation beteewn design and cost etc. In this study, we developed the method of cost estimating for building parts. The modified method has defferent ratio of space functions to calculate cost more correctly. Also historical cost data is used in this modified method for architects to estimate cost conveniently. By this modified method, we expects architects should easily design buildings based on cost.
BIM Application for Civil Engineering Project in Planning and Design Phases

Due to the characteristics of 3D objects of building construction projects which have regular, vertical and repetitive shapes, the most practical utilization of BIM in the country is focused on building projects. The characteristics of 3D objects of civil engineering project have irregular, horizontal and non-repetitive shapes. Therefore, consisting of a practical BIM model is difficult comparing with building project. This study suggests an application process of BIM for the planning and design phases for civil engineering project. A BIM system is developed based on suggested BIM process and it is verified through a bridge construction project.
