Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 469~475
In this paper, the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame of Monorail being developed in domestic was evaluated. Presently, the standard of evaluation for the bogie frame of monorail was not regulated. Therefore, the evaluation of the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame was performed on the basis of the UIC 615-4 standard. The structural integrity of the designed bogie frame was evaluated by displacement and Von-Mises stress under each load conditions. And the fatigue strength was evaluated by combined main in-service load conditions specified at UIC 615-4 standard and it was compared with result of fatigue analysis using winLIFE v3.1 with the function of batch processing. The results shows that the structural integrity and fatigue strength of the designed bogie frame was satisfied, and the fatigue analysis using batch processing was more effective than conventional fatigue analysis using combined load conditions.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 476~480
In the corrugated steel panels used for railway vehicles, sound insulation performance is significantly deteriorated by local resonance effect. In this study, as a countermeasure, polyurethane foam is filled in the corrugated steel panel and glass wool layer is inserted in the layered floor panel, and then improvement effect of the sound insulation performance is experimentally estimated. Based on ASTM E2249-02, intensity transmission loss is measured and estimated on the corrugated panel and floor structure. The aim of the study is to identify how the foam filling and inserting glass wool layer improve the sound insulation performance of the train body structure in aspect of the weight increment.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 481~487
A room scale fire test was done for interior materials from a subway vehicle installed within an ISO 9705 fire test room. The interior materials are the old ones which were made before the new fire safety guideline of subway vehicles. The output of ignition burner was increased in controlled steps to CEN/TS 45545-1. The objectives of this interior fire test are to assess the fire performance in terms of ignition and flame spread on interior lining materials and to provide data on an enclosure fires involving subway vehicle interior materials that grow to flashover. Temperatures, heat flux and heat release rate variations verse time of the test are measured. Heat release rate is compared with that of calculated by modified flaming area based summation method. These test results will be used for verification of CFD fire simulation of full subway vehicle.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 488~492
In order to verify the performance of high-speed train and core equipments such as current collection system, sophisticated tests and evaluating procedures must be considered. In case of force sensor to test contact force of pantograph, it should customize the test instruments according to characteristics of pantograph. In this paper, the force sensor with a built-in strain-gauge which developed to improve measuring performance of contact force between the pantograph and catenary system is introduced. The test and evaluation results of force sensor's static and dynamic calibration with pantograph shows that its design is very suitable and applicable for on-line test. Henceforth, the force sensor will be applied to test interaction characteristics between the pantograph and catenary system on the high-speed line and expected by a part of measuring system for evaluating current collecting characteristics more reliably.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 493~499
The next generation domestic high speed railway system is a power dispersed type and uses vector control method for motor speed control. Nowadays, inverter driven induction motor system is widely used. However, recently PMSM drives are deeply considered as a alternative candidate instead of an induction motor driven system due to their advantages in efficiency, noise reduction and maintenance. In this paper, the maximum torque control approach is presented for the IPMSM drives with reluctance torque. The applied control method uses maximum torque control per ampere technique. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink are developed. Finally the designed system is verified by simulation and their characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 500~503
Until now, the track circuit with railroad which is a part of an electrical circuit wad used only for the detection of the train location, but as train speed is up to be higher, in order to overcome the limits of ground signal system the railway signal system has changed from the ground signal system to a cab signal system. The power source of the track circuit has also changed from a direct current or a high voltage impulse to an alternating current with high frequency which is a part of the audio frequency. To improve the maintenanability and according to the environment condition, the railway roadbed is rapidly changed to the ferroconcrete roadbed. In case of a track circuit to use an alternating current with high frequency as power source at a ferroconcrete roadbed, the characteristic of the track circuit is brought on a change from a loss of the magnetic combination instead of a leakage current from electric insulation which was caused by the reinforcing iron pod with lattice shape for durability. This paper is shown the influence and the loss of the signal current at AF track circuit on a ferroconcrete in the simulation sheets and presented a proposal for the preventive method from reduction of signal current.
A Study on Chopper Circuit for Variation of Inductance and Threshold Voltage based on IGBT
Lho, Young-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 504~508
The development of high voltage Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) have given new device advantage in the areas where they compete with conventional GTO (Gate Turnoff Thyristor) technology. The IGBT combines the advantages of a power MOSFET (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) and a bipolar power transistor. The change of electrical characteristics for IGBT is mainly coming from the change of characteristics of MOSFET at the input gate and the PNP transistors at the output. The change of threshold voltage, which is one of the important design parameters, is brought by charge trapping at the gate oxide under the environment that radiation exists. The energy loss will be also studied as the inductance values are changed. In this paper, the electrical characteristics are simulated by SPICE, and compared for variation of inductance and threshold voltage based on IGBT.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 509~515
Primary function of a transition curve is to accomplish gradual transition from the straight to circular curve, so that curvature changes from zero to a finite value. The transition curve enhances the running safety and ride comfort of the vehicle in curve. There are a couple of transition curve such as clothoid, cubic parabola and cosinusoidal curve, etc. In this study, running behaviors of cubic parabola and cosinusoidal curve were investigated and compared by numerical analysis result using VAMPIRE program. Ride comforts for an individual transition curve were evaluated for each transition curve and running behavior and safety were also evaluated to compare the capacity of transition curves.
Parametric Study on the Capacity of Vacuum Pump for Tube Structure
Nam, Seong-Won ;
Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 516~520
Parametric study has been conducted to calculate the capacity of vacuum pump system that will be used to maintain the pressure of the tube structure under atmosphere level. Recently many railroad researchers pay attention to the tube train system as one of the super high speed transportation system. To achieve the super high speed, the inside of tube system should be maintained at low pressure level. In the low pressure environment, it is well known that air resistance of train is drastically decreased. Vacuum pump system will be used to make low pressure state for tube structure, exhaust the leakage air and supplement additional vacuum pumping. As results of these studies, we get the lump capacity of vacuum pump for various parameters. These results can be applied to analyze the effects of the reduction of air resistance.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 521~527
The Paved Track is applied to reduce maintenance cost of conventional line. The Paved Track could be used in all types of lines including earthwork, bridge, tunnel and turnout sections. In case of earthwork section, the construction joint is the most critical factor to track durability. The construction joint does not affect to the track structure directly, but the gap due to discontinuity of slabs may affect to the long-term serviceability. To evaluate this problem, the accelerated track test has been performed on the construction joint and the middle part to of the real scale Paved Track. The purpose of this test is that evaluate the vulnerability of construction joint section comparing the trends of settlement and earth pressure under repeated loads of construction joint with those of the middle slab part.

Park, Man-Soo ; Moon, Dae-Seop ; Lee, Hi-Sung ;
Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 528~534
In the new growth theory, R&D stock is the third factor of production excluding a labor and capital. In this point, a R&D stock is located in a capital which is accumulated by money like existing capital and this is a knowledge capital. The effort for escalating this knowledge capital is R&D investment and R&D stock is an accumulation of this. A contribution degree of the economic growth and a return of R&D investments are analyzed by an estimation of relation R&D stock and a total factor of productivity. This study analyzed R&D stock of railroad R&D investments and compared R&D stock with a technical level. So, a technical level is proportionally escalated following escalation of R&D stock. and compared railroad industry weight on the GDP with a railroad R&D stock weight on whole industries R&D stock. According to a relatively small railroad R&D stock weight against the railroad industry weight, a continuous railroad R&D investment is needed.

Journal of the Korean Society for Railway, volume 13, issue 5, 2010, Pages 535~540
We present an optimization model for how to assign the freight trains to transshipment tracks and allocate the containers to the freight trains in a rail container terminal. We formulate this problem as a multi-criteria integer programming to minimize the makespan of job schedule and simultaneously to maximize the loading throughput, i.e. the number of containers to be disposed per day. We also apply our model to the instance obtained from the real-world data of the Uiwang Inner Container Depot. From the experiments, we can see an improvement of approximately 6% in makespan, which means that our model can contribute to the improvement of the disposal capacity of containers without additional expansion of facilities.
