A study on the Pressure Test of the Glass Window for High Speed Train

In this paper, the pressure endurance test of passenger train`s glass window which was developed for next high speed train was studied. At first, pressure test equipment which will be able to generate the maximum pressure same as crossing case between two trainsets in the tunnel was developed. Afterwards the pressure test and evaluation that are based on NFF31-314 were carried out and studied.
Parameter Study of Harmonics Generation Using One-dimensional Model of Closed Crack

When a crack exists under a residual stress, for example in welds, the crack can be closed and it shows non symmetric behavior for tension and compression. Ultrasonic detection method for those nonlinear cracks has been developed recently. The method uses the higher order harmonics generating at the crack surface. In this study, parameter study was carried out for the analysis of the harmonics generation at a nonlinear contact interface as a preliminary study for general 3-dimensional cracks. One-dimensional problem with simple bilinear behavior for the contacting surface was considered. The amplitude of second harmonic to the fundamental wave was obtained for various stiffness ratios, incident frequencies, and the contacting layer thicknesses.
A Study on Fault Location Estimation Technique Using the distribution Ratio of Catenary Current in AC Feeding System

In AC feeding system, the fault location is calculated by using ratio of current absorbed in the neutral point of AT(Automatic Transformer) or by measuring reactance. In this way, however, an estimation error can be happened due to the many reasons. In addition, for measuring currents in the neutral point of AT, other measuring devices and communication equipments are additionally required. In order to solve the disadvantages, this paper suggests a novel technique using the distribution ratio of catenary current. The proposed technique uses existing protective relays and measures catenary current. With the measured data, we can calculate the distribution ratio of catenary current and determine fault location. Through the simulated results, we derived the correlation between current ratio and fault location. Using this technique, additional equipments and expenses can be reduced. Besides, fault location can be determined more correctly.
A Study on the Design of Voltage Mode PWM DC/DC Power Converter

DC/DC switching power converters are commonly used to generate a regulated DC output voltages with high efficiencies from different DC input sources. The voltage mode DC/DC converter utilizes MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor), inductor, and a PWM (pulse-width modulation) controller with oscillator, amplifier, and comparator, etc. to efficiently transfer energy from the input to the output at periodic intervals. The fundamental boost converter and a buck converter containing a switched-mode power supply are studied. In this paper, the electrical characteristics of DC/DC power converters are simulated by program of SPICE, and the PWM controller is implemented to check the operation. In addition, power efficiency is analyzed based on the specification of each component.
A Study on the Reliability/Safety assessment and improvement of USN Gateway for Train Control

The recent development of USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technology has broadened its applications to many fields of industry. The USN technology enables the system to monitor and control the status of distributed sensor nodes based on the low-powered communications. Applying the USN in the train control domain, the operational efficiency can be enhanced, where the reliability and the safety of the system are the key challenges. This paper suggests the system design for evaluating and improving the reliability and safety of the gateway, which is a USN component that manages the radio network among the sensors and collects the information from them. For this purpose, the reliability and the level of safety integrity of a general gateway have been predicted quantitatively and the supplementary design has been proposed for the selected week points. The verification on the reliability and the safety of the improved gateway according to the related standards has been followed. With the results of the study, the applicability of USN gateway for train control systems has been reviewed.
A Research on the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction of Railway Structure Construction Stage

Concrete was identified as the significant GHG emission source resulting from a GHG emission analysis of railway infrastructure. An environmental assessment method (life cycle assessment; LCA) and low carbon railway infrastructure design strategy development method (ECODESISGN PILOT) were applied to develop low carbon railway infrastructure design strategies. The railway infrastructure was analyzed as a raw material intensive industry emitting large amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) at its construction stage. Therefore, in this study, it is analyzed that current status of GHG emission at its construction stage, and a method reducing GHG emission of railway infrastructure is proposed. In this study, eco-concrete, concrete aging prevention agent and a low carbon railway route decision method based on a need of low carbon railway infrastructure construction technology application for green railway development were considered.
Tilting Train-induced Roadbed Response on the Conventional Line

It is a fact that the straightening of track alignment is one of the undoubted ways to improve the train speed on conventional lines, while that requires huge investment resources. Therefore, the operation of a tilting train as well as the minimum improvement of track is suggested as an effective and economical alternative way for the speed-up of conventional lines. Since a driving mechanism of tilting train is different from those of existing trains, in order to make sure its operation safety and stability on conventional line, the performance of track and roadbed must be preferentially evaluated on the conventional line. Furthermore, it is necessary to estimate the tilting-train-induced roadbed response in detail since the roadbed settlement can lead to the track deformation and even derailment. In this research, the patterns of wheel load and lateral force were monitored and analyzed through the field tests, and the derailment coefficient and degree of wheel off-loading were calculated in order to evaluate the tilting train running safety depending on the running speeds (120km~180km) on the conventional line. Moreover, roadbed pressure, settlement and acceleration were also observed as tilting-train-induced roadbed responses in order to estimate the roadbed stability depending on the running speeds. Consequently, the measured derailment coefficient and degree of wheel off-loading were satisfied with their own required limits, and all of the roadbed responses were less than those of existing high-speed train (KTX) over an entire running speed range considered in this study. As a result of this study, the tilting train which will be operated in combination with existing trains is expected to give no adverse impact on the conventional line even with its improved running speed.
The Effects of Interaction between Personality and Job Stress on Job Satisfaction: The Comparison between Accidents-laden and Accidents-free Train Drivers

The purpose of this article is to find out and analyze the diverse factors that are incurring stress to the railway drivers, and to depict the moderating effects of personality factors(Locus of Control, Self-Efficacy, and Organization-Based Self Esteem) on the causal relationship between job stressors and job satisfaction in two groups(drivers who experienced accidents and drivers who did not). To attain this purpose, the 212 questionnaires received from the drivers of KORAIL, Seoul Metro, and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit. Most crucial finding was that certain aspects of a driver`s personalities measured by locus of control, self-efficacy, and organization-based self esteem showed significant moderating effects in predicting the level of job satisfaction, job stress and accidents. This result implies that the drastic testing of personality factors is so important when staffing drivers in the future.
A Study for Application of Logistics Collaboration in the Railroad

The logistics collaboration is begun in the transport part and introducing it in all fields of the distribution including delivery and the storage in these days. The effectiveness by the logistics collaboration is proved in many forms and adopted in many parts positively. However, logistics collaboration are enforced around road transport now. In this paper, it is examined for logistics collaboration introduction plan in the railroad part which is outstanding in environmental. The logistics collaboration are examined for transport and storage in not only the Railway main line transport but also the railroad station.
The Design Guideline of the Buses as the Transportation Means to the KTX of Small/Medium Cities

Considering the traffic condition of railroad `KTX` links to lack of service`s punctuality in nation`s small/ medium cities, design guidelines with practical railroad transportation policies in terms of convenient railroadbus connection and improving comfortable ride is suggested. Following the guideline and policies, operational requirements of current railroad-bus connection system, the system`s design consideration, and transportation policies and laws in relation to the bus operating companies should be analyzed to decide the practicality of the railroad-bus connecting infrastructure. Also, in order to achieve practical railroad-bus connection, connecting buses` design guideline is combined with suggested optimization method of the practicality transportation system. Lastly, the design guideline of buses as `links,` and railroad transportation policies concerning the operation of connecting bus system for nation`s small/medium cities are suggested.
KTX Passenger Demand Forecast with Intervention ARIMA Model

This study proposed the intervention ARIMA model as a way to forecast the KTX passenger demand. The second phase of the Gyeongbu high-speed rail project and the financial crisis in 2008 were analyzed in order to determine the effect of time series on the opening of a new line and economic impact. As a result, the financial crisis showed that there is no statistically significant impact, but the second phase of the Gyeongbu high-speed rail project showed that the weekday trips increased about 17,000 trips/day and the weekend trips increased about 26,000 trips/day. This study is meaningful in that the intervention explained the phenomena affecting the time series of KTX trip and analyzed the impact on intervention of time series quantitatively. The developed model can be used to forecast the outline of the overall KTX demand and to validate the KTX O/D forecasting demand.
