Detection and Classification of Defect Signals from Rotator by AE Signal Pattern Recognition

The signal pattern recognition method by acoustic emission signal is applied to detect and classify the defects of a journal bearing in a power plant. AE signals of main defects such as overheating, wear and corrosion are obtained from a small scale model. To detect and classify the defects, AE signal pattern recognition program is developed. As the classification methods, the wavelet transformation analysis, the frequency domain analysis and time domain analysis are used. Among three analyses, the wavelet transformation analysis is most effective to detect and classify the defects of the journal bearing..
Characteristics of Local Vibration Modes of the Aluminium Extruded Panels for Rail Road Vehicles

Characteristics of the local vibration modes of an aluminium extruded panel are investigated by the finite element analysis and modal testing. Practical methods to increase the damping of the local resonances are proposed. Effects by filling urethan foam in the core cavity and by coating tar on the panel surface are compared by experiments. Modified panel structures to shift the local resonance frequency band are proposed. The results of the study are utilized to predict the severe local resonances in the aluminium extruded panels and prevent their undesirable effect on the sound insulation.
An Evaluation of Crashworthiness for the Full Rake KHST Using 1-D Dynamic Model

One of the best methods to evaluate crashworthiness of a full rake trainset is to analyse 1-dimensional dynamic model using dampers, nonlinear springs and bars, and masses. In this study, the crashworthiness of KHST has been evaluated by analysing a nonlinear dynamic model made up of springs/bars-dampers-masses. The numerical results show that the KHST can absorb more kinetic energy at lower impact forces and lower accelerations in case of heavy collisions, if compared with KTX. Also, the KHST can be protected from any damage in its car-body and electric components except the energy absorbing tube in case of light collisions, like train-to-train accidents at speed under 8 kph. On the other hand, the KTX may be more damaged in the light collisions because there is no energy absorbing tube.
A Study on the 134.2kHz Band RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) Loop Antenna Design

In this paper, it has a proposal of the RFID reader antenna design that expand the dedicated short-range communication distance between a static object on the ground and a mobile object attached on the moving article. The static reader equipped with micro-processor makes it possible to have a serial communication with a main system, so that much data can be transfer to the main system. An antenna is adjusted in order to a communication, the scale is designed by results values of simulation using matlab. It is achieved to systematically manage logistics, person resource and security system by grasping the information and location of mobile object on the basis that this system receives the information between a static reader and a mobile object tag at 134.2kHz band on real time, also to make it possible the main system to process. Therefore, the reader antenna scale is controlled on the foundation of a magnetic field theory in order to expand a recognition distance of reader and tag, so that can be optimistically recognized with minimizing the direction influence of reader and tag.
Test and Analysis for Axial and Bending Collapse Characteristics Evaluation of Aluminum Extruded Beams

Recently, many engineers actively participate in research and development w.r.t the weight reduction and the safety increase of vehicle body structure to meet the requirement of fuel economy and regulations. However, vehicle design concept related with weight reduction and safety increase is reduced to the design conflict problem. In the paper, the axial and bending collapse test of aluminum extruded beams are performed and the collapse characteristics are investigated. The analysis method to verify the fracture characteristics of aluminum extruded beam is presented and discussed.
Running Safety of High Speed Freight Bogie

As freight traffic becomes heavier, the high speed of existing freight cars is essential, instead of the construction of a new railway. The high speed can be achieved by the modifications of freight bogie design. In this paper, an analytical model of freight bogie is developed to decide the critical speed. The dynamic responses of the analytical model are compared with the experimental data from a running test of freight bogie and showed good agreements between them. The analytical model is used to find the design of freight bogie. The parameter studies show that the reduction of wheelset mass ratio and the increase of the axle distance of freight bogie can increase the critical speed, but the primary lateral stiffness has little effects on the critical speed. And this study also shows that smaller wheel conicity deteriorates the running safety of freight car, which means that the overhauling of the wheel of freight bogie should be done regularly.
