Post-processor Simulator Construction of Ultrasonic Signals for Integrity Evaluation of Railway Truck

This study proposes the post-processor simulator construction of ultrasonic signal for integrity evaluation of railway truck. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for defects(crack) of weld zone in frames are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. The detection of the natural defects in railway truck is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. The constructed post-processor simulator agree fairly well with the measured results of test block(defect location, beam propagation distance, echo strength, etc). Proposed post-processor simulator construction of ultrasonic in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of railway truck.
Strength Characteristics of Light-Weighted Soils Mixed with EPS and Dredged Soils

Recycling of dredged soils as construction materials is experimently discussed in this paper. The strength of light-weighted soils(LWS) consisting of expanded polystyrene(EPS), dredged soils and cement is characterized by uniaxial and triaxial compression tests with varying initial water contents of dredged soils, the EPS volume and cement contents, and expanded ratio of EPS. Test results show that the strength of light-weighted soils increases with adding cement contents, whereas the strength increases with decreasing initial water contents of dredged soils and expanded ratio of EPS. It was, however, found that increasing the EPS volume makes a lower the strength of light-weighted soils.
Characteristics of Displacement of the Reinforced Roadbed Materials with Cyclic Loading

In this study, performance of reinforced railroad roadbeds with the reinforced roadbed materials were investigated through the real scale roadbed tests. It was also found that the reinforced roadbed with reinforced roadbed materials has less elastic and plastic settlement than the one with soil. The slag roadbed was more effective than the crushed stone roadbed with the same condition for load distribution. Therefore considering overall characteristics of reinforced roadbed material, the optimum thickness was recommended as 50 cm. Furthermore the real scale model test under the simulated rainfall condition, the settlement in the slag roadbed was about 8 times smaller than the settlement in the soil roadbed.
A Train Seat Capacity Distribution Model to Multiple Origin-Destinations

In this paper we present a nonlinear programming model for the train seat capacity distribution with a numerical example. The model finds the optimal capacity distribution methods which minimize the sum of the differences between the demands and the seat capacities. Also the model provides the information on the degree of the discrepancy between the demand and the seat capacities. One can use the model as a tool for planning train seat capacity planning.
Application of Tunnel Information Management System and Tunnel Collapse Inference System in Tunnel

For an efficient management and analysis of geological/geotechnical data obtained during site investigations or tunnel construction, Tunnel Information System(TIS) was developed in this study. TIS is running in CIS(Geographical Information System) which has a spatial data. TIS consists of two parts, the Tunnel Face Mapping System(FaceMap), to record a geological features by observations and measurements at the surface of the excavation, the Borehole Data Management System(BDMS), to store the different types of rock data related to boreholes. Using the database of collapsed tunnels, 20 in Korea and 84 in Europe and with an artificial neural network, an expert system was developed for inferring the tunnel collapse pattern and its volume. And by applying Geo-predict, the system developed, in tunnels under construction, observed data from the
tunnl site was compared and analyzed.
Testing and Numerical Analysis Techniques for Pull-out Resistance Characteristics of the Extensible Geogrid

Reinforced earth structure has been regarded as general structure in order to achieve efficient land utilization as well as securing safety in railway service lines in other countries, but there are no construction actual results in Korea. In this study, the soil-geogrid interaction mechanism was investigated experimentally and numerical analysis was performed to predict Pull-out behaviour of geogrid embedded in reinforced earth body. This experimental data and analysis result can not contribute to understand the soil-geogrid interaction mechanism at soil-geogrid interface but also be used in design practice of the railway reinforced earth structures.
A Study on Development of Interlocking Inspection System for Electronic Interlocking System

The purpose of interlocking system was to prevent the route for a train being set up and its protecting signal cleared if there was already another, conflicting route set up and the protecting signal for that route cleared. This paper proposed Interlocking Inspection System(IIS) consisting of interlocking simulator and field simulator to operate interlocking test of computer based Electronic Interlocking System(EIS) in this paper. Interlocking simulator consists of Design Edit System(DES), Logical Database Management Tool(LDMT) and real-time confirming system, field simulator is a equipment to simulate a control object of EIS and constitutes configuration operated in 19 inch standard rack. As a result of test to prove capacity of this IIS, the efficiency was shown as excellent. Therefore by using inspection system, we obtain every advantages. It has the functions for test data generation and automatic test execution based on personal computer. Time and cost for test work can be reduced more efficiently by using this developed inspection system
Development of a Sliding-Plug Entrance Door System for Urban Electric Transit Unit to Reduce Inside Noise Level

Reduction of noise level in the cabin of urban transit unit is an important issue to enhance the comfortability of passengers. It is made clear that a cause of increased noise level in cabin is the imperfect airtightness of entrance doors. In this study, the sliding-plug door system is developed to reduce the noise level of cabins by securing the airtightness of entrance door. The sliding-plug door system is composed of air-driven engine, swing arms, guide rails, guide rollers and locking devices. It is economical owing to using the previous door engine system. It is also adequate for the platform system of our subway station. It was tested to prove the reliability of system and was applied to standard urban transit unit. The effectiveness of noise reduction in cabin resulting form the sliding-plug door system was confirmed by test results.
An Evaluation Method of Fatigue Strength and Reliability in a Railway Wheel with an Application of Strength-Stress Interference Model

The failure probability of wheel beyond 10
7/ cycles is achieved by the strengths-stress interference model for the evaluation of fatigue strength and reliability in the wheel, From plane bending fatigue test results, the fatigue life (N
f/) for the smooth and 200㎛ holed specimens can be represented as

-0.18/. Respectively, fatigue strength of the wheel at beyond 10
7/cycles was about 332 MPa. And, the fatigue strength for the specimen with a micro hole (d=200㎛) which simulated an inclusion on the wheel surface was about 235 MPa. Thus, a micro hole (d=200㎛) caused about 30% reduction of fatigue strength of the specimen. The failure probabilities for the smooth and micro-holed specimens, derived from the strength-stress interference model, are 0.0148% and 13.05%, respectively. The current finding suggests that at least 200 ㎛ sized inclusion, which might be produced during manufacturing process, will cause a critical effect on integrity of the railway vehicle.
A Safety Evaluation on the Rubber Panel for Railway Crossing

As the public use part of the railway and the road, the railway crossing is important to work properly by two transportation means. Also, It is important to provide the good face of friction on the railway crossing in aspect of protecting the railway crossing accident. Lately, the material of railway crossing panel is the wood, the asphalt, and the steel. As they have a various fault, it was studied to analyze the structural action of the new material, rubber panel. This paper analyzed eigenvalue, stress and displacement by truck passing weight, thermal stress and train moving weight, using the Finite Element Method model
