Analysis on the Snake Motion of One Freight Car for High Speed Running

The development of railway vehicles involves the proper selection of design parameters not only to achieve high speed but also to reduce the vibration of the train. In this study an analytical model of a freight car is developed to find the critical speed. The freight car can generate the snake motion of the lateral and yawing motion of the car body, the bogie, and the wheelset. Numerical analysis for the nonlinear equation motions with 17 degrees of freedom showed the running stability and critical speed due to the snake motion. Also, the vibration modes of the freight car was calculated using ADAMS/RAIL, which showed that the critical speed have the yawing modes of the car body and the bogie. Finally this paper shows that the snake motion of the vehicle can be controlled with the modifications of the design parameters.
Application of GIS Technology for Developing Emergency Management System on High-Speed Lines

Due to almost all tracks of new Kyoungbu high-speed lines(HSL) consisting of bridges and tunnels, HSR operational safety management is very important factor for passenger safety and preventing catastrophic event. Especially, it is important to approach the scene of the accident and assist in saving lives as soon as possible under emergency conditions. Therefore it is essential to prepare access methods and available resources in advance in order to support emergency correspodances promptly and effectively. This paper persents an application of geographical information system(GIS) for developing emergency management system as well as batabase system on tracks and facilities, electric/communication equipment and safety equipment required to support emergencies. The on-site information on the proximity of HSL is expressed on the numerical map, which can be helpful to call external supports such as medical service, local authorities, police offices, fire brigades, and etc. for the emergency situations.
Sound Radiation Characteristics of A Cracked Rectangular Vibrating Plate

This paper considers the sound radiation characteristics of a cracked rectangular vibrating plate, varying the orientation angle of a line crack. The vibration response of the cracked vibrating plate is obtained by using ANSYS, the acoustic theory based on the lumped parameter model is used to calculate radiated sound power. The radiated sound powers are computed with varying the orientation angle of the crack: i.e, 0
, and 90
. It is found that characteristics of the radiated sound power are very closely related to the crack orientation, vibration mode and crack location.
A Study on the Influence of Track Stability for Ballast Resistance Force

Transportation by railroad is superior to other transport in a mass transport, stability, rapid transit, delightfulness and low-pollution etc. But, it need to ensure a track stability that supports the train-load for high-speed in transportation by railroad. Ballast resistance force resists against the buckling of track taking a rail-tie's place. So, it plays an important role in a careful train-service. So, in this papers, we forced on measuring and theorizing about the Ballast Resistance Force that play a key role in track stability and high-speed. And we studied the mechanical property. Finally, we suggested the method of securing Ballast Resistance Force and the report for a careful train-service in high-speed.
Development of 2-D DEM (Discrete Element Method) algorithm to model ballast and sleeper

This paper presents the development of 2-dimensional discrete element algorithm to generate circle and line elements for the simulation of the ballast and sleeper in railway. An example of randomly distributed circle elements show a good applicability of this algorithm for the modeling of the behaviors of ballast. The output about unbalaned force, particle velocity, and total energy conservation from the code is evaluated to check if the calculation is conducted properly.
A study on the steel structure detail for railway station of Korean traditional style

This paper was to find out the design methodology for korean railway station of steel structure using by wooden structure system. Traditionally Korean architecture was made by wooden structure system what is called Gong-Po (wooden bracket structure system). The abundant ornament of Korean architecture is resulted from the composition rule of Gong-Po(wooden bracket structure system). But Korean wooden structural system have a limit in constructing large building, for example railway station, airport terminal, convention center etc. It is needed to convert wooden structure system into steel structure system. But there are many differences between wooden structure and steel structure in texture, material strength, joint system of elements etc. In this paper, we will show you how to make a joint system for steel structure of railway station and how to present the traditionality of Korean architecture in railway station.
Static load test of the bogie and vibration performance test, dynamic characteristics analysis of the bulk cement car

The object of this study is to ensure the stability of bulk cement cars conducting vibration performance test, dynamic characteristic analysis and static load test of bogie frame. In case of static load test, bogie static load test facility was used. In case of dynamic characteristic analysis, Vampire Software was used. In case of vibration performance test, real bulk cement cars were used in kyeung-bu line. In the results of static load test of bogie frame for bulk cement car, all structures satisfied allowable stress criteria of materials. The vibration performance test and dynamic characteristic analysis results satisfied allowable standards.
An Optimal Design for Truss Core Unit of Railway Carbody of Aluminum Extrusion Plate

To make railway carbody light in weight has advantages at some aspects of both manufacturing and maintenance. Recently, railway carbodys of steel structure have been lightened their weight by using aluminum extrusion plate. for the additional lightening of railway carbody, an optimal design which maintains proper strength and minimizes weight must be achieved. Optimization which is used with finite element analysis for aluminum extrusion plate has the disadvantage of consuming much time. In this paper, the method of equivalent material property which is available to FEA code is established using the method of equivalent stiffness. This method for plate is expanded into the method for railway carbody structure with plates and shells. An objective function is established for maximum stiffness of unit aluminum extrusion plate using established method of equivalent material property. We performed an multi-objective optimization using the penalty function method. As a result, recommendable shapes and sizes of unit extrusion plate for under-frame of high speed train is presented.
A Study on the Design Criteria of the Alignment in the Curve for Urban Rail Transit

With designing alignment of railway for urban rail transit, a greater attention is paid to the riding safety and the comfort of the passengers. Especially, cant, transition curve, minimum curve radius are considered as very important alignment factors for the curve. For the above alignment factors, in this study, comparative studies on the design criteria of foreign rail transit are conducted. And reasonable design criteria of the alignment for urban rail transit are proposed.
A Study on the Squeal Noise for Subway

When a rail vehicle transverses tight curves, it often emits an intense, high-pitched squeal. This squeal has always been noticed as one of the most disturbing noise sources of railway systems. At present, we cannot predict squeal noise that is influenced by a large number of dependent parameters.
