Structural Characteristics of a Hybrid Composite Carbody of Korean Tilting Train by Weight Load

This paper explains manufacturing process, analysis and experimental studies on a hybrid composite carbody of Korean tilting train. The composite carbody with length of 23m was manufactured as a sandwich structure composed of a aluminium honeycomb core and woven fabric carbon/epoxy faces. In order to evaluate deformational behavior of the composite carbody, the static load test under vertical load has been conducted. From the test, the vertical deflection an겨 cross sectional deformation of the carbody were analysed and measured. The maximum deflection along the side sill was 9.25mm in the experiment and 8.28mm in the analysis. The maximum cross sectional deformation was measured 5.42mm at carbody center in lateral direction and 4.06mm at roof center in vertical direction.
A Construction Method for CBTC Communication Networks

This paper presents an optimization approach to the configuration of train radio communication network for CBTC. The target specifications of CBTC communication systems are derived from technical requirements for CBTC. The proposed communication system has a ring-topology backbone communication network between stations and a radio network based on IEEE 802.11b wireless tan between trains and wayside devices. The proposed method has been applied to the standardization of the signalling system of urban transits.
A Study on the Safety Plan for a Train Control System

In this paper we present a safety plan to be applied to the development of the TCS(Train Control System). The safety plan that can be applied to the life cycle of a system, from the conceptual design to the dismantlement, shows the whole process of the paper work in detail through the establishment of a goal, analysis and assessment, the verification. In this paper we study about the making a plan, the preliminary hazard analysis, the hazard identification and analysis to guarantee the safety of the TCS. The process far the verification of the system safety is divided into several steps based on the target system and the approaching method. The guarantee of the system safety and the improvement of the system reliability is fellowed by the recommendation of the international standards.
Analysis of Pedestrian Flow Characteristics in Subway Station

Insight into behaviour of pedestrians as welt as tools to assess passenger flow condition is important in such instances as planning and geometric design of railway station under regular and safety-critical circumstances. Algorithm for passenger flow analysis based on DEM (Discrete Element Method) is newly developed. There are lots of similarity between particle-laden two phase flow and passenger flow. The velocity component of 1st phase corresponds to the unit vector of calculation cell, each particle to passenger, volume fraction to population density and the particle velocity to the walking velocity, etc. And, the walking velocity of passenger is also represented by the function of population density. Key algorithms are developed to determine the position of passenger, population density and numbering to each passenger. To verify the effectiveness of new algorithm, passenger flow analysis for the basic models of railway station is conducted.
A Study on the Measurement of Relative Rotation of Center Pivot in Power Car of KTX

The center pivot in the power car of KTX carries the traction force of the motor bogie to the carbody. The damage to the center pivot due to failure of swivel joint causes a serious hazard of the train. To prevent the hazard, information on the relative motion between bogie and carbody is necessary. In this paper, a method to measure the relative rotation of the center pivot is proposed and an actual test to verify the method and safety is conducted. The test results show that the rotation of the center pivot is within the allowable limit and the damage due to the relative motion doesn't take place.
Designing & Development of Prototype of Core Subsystem for High Density & Large Scale Station Traffic Management System

In the current train operation system, large scaled stations like Cheongnyangni and Yongsan are not remote controlled from the central operator but manually by local operator. It is because there are so many entering and exit of trains between depot and mainline which are operating through the large scaled stations and it is very effective to traffic flow on the mainline. Therefore, Kyong Bong Technology Co., Ltd. (KBTech) and Korea Railway Research Institute (KRRI) are continuing the research and development to import 'Autonomous Decentralized System (ADS)'as part of a new train operation control system which is a national policy project of MOCT (Ministry Of Construction & Transportation). The concept of the 'Autonomous Decentralized System (ADS)' has born in 1970's in Japan by the influences of molecular biology. The special features of ADS are being a system that able to do the online expansion, online maintenance and fault tolerance. This thesis introduces the concept of technology of ADS and also describes the system designing & development to apply with large scaled stations.
An Experimental and Numerical Study on Fire Suppression Using a Mid-low Pressure Water Mist in a Carriage Fire

The present study investigated the effect of fire suppression using a mid-low pressure water mist in a carriage fire. The fire extinguishing time and temperature distributions below ceiling in the enclosed compartment of
were measured by stopwatch and k-type thermocouples for various fire positions. The numerical simulations were extensively performed using. Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS, Ver. 4.0) code and the predictions were compared with experimental data. The prediction results showed good agreement with the measured maximum temperature in the all cases. Whereas the predicted temperature was about
higher than the measured one after operating of water mist. The predicted fire extinguishing times were compared with those of measured data. Fires are extinguished within 200 seconds at the experiment in Case 2 and Case 3. But in Case 1 fire was not extinguished in the numerical simulation. The reason of the discrepancy between predicted and measured data was that a simple suppression algorithm has been implemented in FDS. Also, various databases of fire properties for combustible materials and more elaborate model considering the water mist were required fur better predictions of the cooling and suffocation effect.
Characteristics of Roadbed Behaviors of Concrete Track for High-Speed Railway

An active application of concrete track is being expected for the future constructions of Korean railroad. For the successful concrete track construction and design in earthwork areas, the roadbed behavior should be reasonably estimated using the proper analysis method. In this paper, behaviors of concrete track on the reinforced roadbed constructed with the standard stiffness and depth were estimated thorough numerical analyses and field measurements. A three dimensional finite difference method was employed to model the concrete tracks and subground. The settlement and vertical pressures caused by train load were estimated by the numerical method and compared with the field measurement results. The bearing characteristics of roadbed were presented and the proper method for the analysis of concrete track was proposed.
Study on the Full-Scale Cyclic Loading Characteristics for Cement Mortar Pouring type Paved Track

Gravel ballasted tracks are used as a basic structure for the domestic railway tracks. However, such kind of tracks has few disadvantages with service life of the structure, such as rapid deterioration of the tracks. Due to this reason, there is a need to develop low maintenance track to improve the service life of the conventional line tracks. CMP paved tacks are one of the kind of concrete tracks those were manufactured by using the prepacked concrete techniques. The purpose to develop paved tracks is to reduce the maintenance cost. The most important controlling factors to design the paved tracks are surrounding environmental condition and repeated train loading. In this study, in order to investigate the deformation characteristics such as displacement, earth pressure, strain ratio, and crack along the repeated loading cycle, cyclic loading test through real scale model was carried out.
An Efficient Care of Address Configuration Scheme for Network Mobility Support based on Movement Pattern of a Train

In this paper, we propose an efficient Care of Address (CoA) configuration scheme for network mobility support in the railroad environment. Mobile routers in a train visit each access router in the fixed order. Such regular movement characteristic of a train enables a current subnet access router to inform the next subnet access router of the mobile routers' interface identifiers before the mobile routers move to the next subnet access router. So, the next subnet access router can make care of addresses for the mobile routers in advance. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the stateless scheme with respect to CoA configuration time.
A Strategy of Technology Development for the Railway System based on Railway Network

Studied was a strategy of technology development for railway system in terms of railway network. First, The successful launch of the Korean HST system has not only decreased logistics burden but also significantly transformed the Korean trunk-line railway network, revolutionizing the logistics and technology sectors and reinvigorating the Korean railway industry in one century. Korean railway industry sector is now investing to develop many different types of railway system(G7, Post G7, tilting train...) so that these kinds of various railway system development should be integrated with the National Inter-modal Transportation Network Plan. To secure sufficient capacity that is required by the National Railroad Plan, the railway industry needs to establish mid- and long-term train purchase and operation strategies in compliance with railway construction and operation policies. During a railway construction planning, train operators, based on their train operation strategies, should come up with measures to closely cooperate with project operators from the planning stage through to the opening of a railway system. To be more precise, train operators should establish long-term train procurement plans reflecting both long-term national railroad network plans and plans for each railway line in order to suggest appropriate roles and schedules for each line. Also, based on the long-term railway plan, directions should be decided concerning the research and development of trains in advance.
A Study on the ISO 9001 Application of Railway Supervision work

Quite a few of persons often fall into an error that ISO has happened an additional work at construction sites. Supervision works, however, are carried out in compliance with 'Guidelines for the Supervision Works' which is including most ISO Requirements. Additional requirements needed for the supervision works are not many. This study has studied on the ISO application of supervision works in relation to, 1) ISO 9001 & KS A 9001 Quality Management System Basic Model, 2) The Process of Railway Construction Work Supervision Quality Management Plan, 3) Supervision Work Performance Guide Book(2005) & KS A 9001(2001) Standard, at the railway construction sites.
A Study on Constructing the Requirement Management System of the Performance Tests and Safety Standards of the High Speed Railway using Model-Based Systems Engineering Approach

To maintain design-knowledge database and manage configuration for requirement of performance tests and safety standards of High Speed Railway(HSR), It is established that management system of performance tests and safety standards and then constructed that design-knowledge database and documented a performance test and safety specifications for supporting performance test and safety system using Model-Based Systems Engineering(MBSE) tool.
