A Study on State Residents' Use at Three Rest Areas and Three Playgrounds in an Apartment Complex
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 155~163
The purpose of this study was to investigate the residents' actual usage at three rest areas and three playgrounds in an apartment complex. This study was conducted with field study in J apartment complex in Incheon from August 14 to August 30, 1998. According to the results of the study, there were more users in playgrounds than in the rest areas. The rest area near the place for the elderly in the complex was used mainly by the elderly females. The playground located near the main entrance of the complex was frequently used because it is the biggest one in size and has an enough space for playing. Furthermore, the condition of shading areas by trees and buildings influenced the rate of use of the residents. Therefore, to increase the usage rate of rest areas and playgrounds, they should be located near to the places which have community amenities and should have accessible entrance for residents. Landscape design of the apartment complex should be done with the plot plan of the complex simultaneously. Moreover, the number and the kinds of trees to be planted in the apartment complex should be considered carefully.
A Study On the Direction of Planning for One-Room Type Multi-Family Housing Around Campus
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 165~173
Around campus, one-room type multi-family houses have been built for more than any other types of one-room type dwelling units. However, these houses are built in a very small scale and have insufficient facilities due to the limited capital invested by the owners of the houses. Consequently, one-room type multi-family housing are lack of consideration and care for various dwellers. This study examines the existing condition of one-room type multi-family housing around campus and analyzes the data collected from the interviews and analyses of the floor plans of the housing. Finally, based on the findings from the analyses this study suggests the future direction for the planning of one-room type multi-family housing.
A Study on Model applied to Logic of Systematic Composition on the Space and Shape in Architecture
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 175~183
This study aims at modeling the compositional method in the architectural space and shape. The composition of space is composed of the position and the area in space. Therefore these elements are established to the functional program applied at the behavioral data. The element of spatial structure is position and scale in space, and the composition of spatial shape is developed repitionally to the combination of build-up method. The functional program is being expertised and the scale in building being lager, the importance of functional program is increased. Applied at data of the functional program at spatial structure, the process is developed to the method of combination. The purpose of this study is approached at the degree of application in modeling on the compositional method in architectural space and shape, which is a fundamental aspect on the quantitative analysis of architectural space.

A Study on the Typological Classification and Characteristics of Contemporary House Plans
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 195~202
The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and types of contemporary houses. This study deals with single-unit Korean houses designed by architects, which are included in architectural periodicals and books published since 1990. This study uses three analysis criteria: general characteristics of the house, hierarchical order of the plan and planning elements of houses. These criteria are derived from preceding studies and typological and topographical theories on houses. As the results of this study, the types of contemporary houses's plan are obtained from the perspective of plan's shape, hierarchical space relationship and spatial organization. Ten types corresponding to the plan shape are proposed. And eleven types of hierarchical space relationship are made and six spatial organization plan types are shown in this paper.
A Subjective Evaluation on the Noise Environment of the Low - rise Multifamily House of Korean lived in Athens, America
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 203~212
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Korean residents' subjective opinion of the noise on the lowrise multifamily house in America. The results of this study can be applied for the prevention of noise when planning cities, roads, and multifamily houses in Korea. The subjects of this study are three kinds of multifamily houses and their 124 Korean residents in Athens, America. The results of this study are as follows. The Korean residents felt the noise from lawn mowers and the sound of filter fan of air conditioners were higher than all the other external noise. They were disturbed a little by the external noise. The air borne sound was recognized a little by Korean residents but they only felt moderate sound of building services and household equipment from the solid borne sound of the internal noise. They suffered worse from external noise in the summer and they felt worse from 8～12 o'clock due to external noise and 20～24 o'clock due to internal noise. The Korean residents liked the sound of birds or insects, the sound of cars and trains. However many Korean people in Athens disliked the sounds of birds or insects and lawn mowers more than these sounds in Korea. The Korean residents who were living in the apartment houses felt better than those in the other multifamily houses.
A Study on the Interpretation of Spatial Composition and Location of Traditional Village from the Water of Feng-Shui Theory - in the case of villages of Hawei and Yangdong -
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 213~222
This study, from conditions connected with water in Feng-Shui theory, is to find out their influence of the location and spatial composition of the studied villages, Hawei and Yangdong, and then to offer the result as basic data for the study of the traditional village in the future. The study method is to analyze topography by the map and present state of villages studied, to interprete them on the base of location, spatial composition, and chi, and then to analyze the relevancy of Feng-Shui theory of them. The result of the study are to be following: Houses of Hawei village are situated on the inside of a winding stream of waterway, while those of Yang dong village are located on the outside of a winding stream of waterway. In case of Hawei village, showed the close interrelation between the distribution of present houses and running speed of waterway by positin. Judging from the location, orientation and surroundings of mountains and waterway, topographical composition of Hawei village is Duk su guk, but that of Yang dong village is Juang feng guk. Comparing with Yang dong and Hawei in location and spatial composition, the conditions of waterway as being locational factor, for example, the geomancy of situation, orientation, and phisical phenomena(lenth, width, and depth of waterway in front of village) of waterway, are more importantly considered in Hawei village being situated on even land than in Yang dong located at the foot of the mountain.

A Study on the Visual Elevation Image of Apartment Buildings
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 10, issue 2, 1999, Pages 247~257
This study is aimed to propose the evaluation model of forecasting visual quality of apartment buildings, which would be a useful tool to make the architectural concepts corresponding to user needs. This study was carried out through the four-step experiments as follows. The first step is to take the user's visual evaluation construct. To do this, the 22 adjective phrases were extracted, which were applicable to all apartment buildings. The second step is to analyze the user's visual preference, which is measured by the user's psychological quantity on the apartment buildings by S. D.(Semantic Differential) Method. The third step is to analyzethe five psychological-factors obtained from the Factor Analysis. The perceptual images on the 41 experimental subjects were checked up through evaluating and analyzing the factor scores of each subjects for each psychological-factor. The fourth step is to analyze, the similarity of various characters in a building, which is mirrored on the user's psychological quantity and how buildings are grouped by it.
