Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 12, issue 3, 2001, Pages 29~39
Even though the balcony in apartment is considered as a necessary space rather than a supplementary one nowadays, we still have many problems in balcony. The utilization of balcony space in our daily lives are as follows: Laundry, Storage, Indoor gardening, Exercise, Hobby activities etc. Despite of these various functions of balcony, balconies were designed without taking them into consideration. Therefore balcony spaces are not functional and the lines of flow get more complicated. Until now, the studies of balcony were simply done on the utilizing pattern and the satisfaction degree of residents, not on connections between balcony location and utilizing pattern. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide improvement guidelines for the utilization of the balcony space in apartment by examining the present conditions and multiple needs.

A Study on the phasic characteristics of organic thoughts in modern architecture
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 12, issue 3, 2001, Pages 61~73
This study is to examine and classify the phasic characteristics of organic thoughts in modern architecture. Organic architects have applied organic thoughts to solutions for the problems of each period in architecture since modern times. As results of this study, the architecture of organic thoughts from 1850s to 1940s could be divided into two phases. The phasic characteristics of the first phase from 1850s to 1910s was physical resemblance in real or fantastic appearance that the work of art and architecture should imitate organic forms from the view of solid empiricism. The phasic characteristics of the second phase from 1920s to 1940s was organic growth that the form appropriate to a work of art and architecture should grow from the nature of the problem itself as a system in nature grows from the view of pragmatism and was organic unity that the form and function or the form and content of a work of art should be inseparably integrated as the form in nature should grow out of the inner nature of the thing and be an expression of that inner nature from the view of expressive theory.

The elements of measurement in this study are determined by the general methodology. The results are as followings: 1. The residence environment level of Yeosu and Mokpo is high, that of Andong and Kyeongsan is low in this study. The ratio of road paving is the most related element in the correlation analysis. 2. The ratio of sewage supply is low compared with the scale of the dwelling area. So the sanitation environment should be improved. 3. In this correlation analysis on the residence pattern, the ratio of a single detached house is more positive than that of a multi-family house. So the single detached house pattern will be desirable in the residence environment.
A Study on the Change of Heat Transmission Coefficient According to the Degree of Windows Slope
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 12, issue 3, 2001, Pages 133~140
This study investigated the heat transmission coefficient through the experiment that the skylight, slope window of 60 degree and 30 degree consisted of pair glass and the double window of external window and internal window paper were suitable for heat insulation. As the result of experiment, the heat transmission coefficient of slope window was 1.06 times in the 60 degree, 1.18 times in the 30 degree and 1.31 times in the skylight as a standard lateral window. The heat transmission coefficient in the double window of external window and internal window paper was 3.017
. The slope window was not suitable for the prescription by the increase of the heat transmission coefficient, so the user must pay attention to the treatment. This study investigated only the slope window of 12mm and 16mm pair glass and the double window of external window and internal window paper, study on the various pattern of window must be achived in a future.
A Study on the Mechanical Ventilation System of Bathroom in Apartment House
Journal of the Korean housing association, volume 12, issue 3, 2001, Pages 141~148
To design mechanical ventilation for bathroom of apartment houses where air supply and exhaust are taken into consideration, mock-ups of ventilation systems, widely used in bathroom of apartment houses with an area of 100
, were made and installed in a laboratory. These ventilation mock-ups were available for control of air supply and exhaust, and the sizes of supply openings were 40cm
3cm, and 40cm
5cm. They were installed at five positions, spaced 45cm at a height of 5cm from the floor. The exhaust fan was designed for its operating voltage to be set to five steps(100V, 130V, 150V, 180V and 220V) in order to control its air flow rates. When the size and position of each supply opening were changed with the wind velocity of the exhaust fan set to the step 5, the ventilation rates were measured and analyzed by the concentration decay method of tracer gas method, in order to present an efficient mechanical ventilation system. The results of the study revealed that the ventilations rates would increase in the presence of supply openings, compared to the absence of supply openings, and that the larger the size of the supply opening, the more the ventilation rates. Therefore, it was found necessary to take air supply into consideration.
