A Study on the Community Design Application in the Senior Collective Housing Hyogo Prefecture, Japan

The purpose of this study is to consider the community design applications in the senior collective housing in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It was performed by two programs, application program and space design program. The former is focused on the participation of residents to the planing and design process, sharing, community activity, social interaction, and management by residents. The latter is focused on the common space(room) design. It was also performed by literature review, observation, and interview. The findings for the community design as an application program in SCH are almost the same with those in CH. But, the level of common meal and common laundry in SCH is lower than that of CH. And space design program is focused on the location and scale of common space(room) which is related to the number of users. As a result, the positive possibilities of SCH as a new residential type for the self-reliant seniors can be confirmed. The difference of community design application between CH and SCH is caused by various factors such as senior's health conditions, economic factors, and Japanese life style.
An Analysis of Sunshine According to the Blocks Direction by Location Type in Apartment Complex

This study is aimed at analyzing on the sunshine according to the blocks direction by location type of apartment complex in Busan, to propose a planning on the decision of blocks direction and the improvement of architectural law in sunshine environment. The results of this study were as follows; On the basis of winter solstice in "□ block type", the average of ratio of shadow area in flat site is 51 % in apartment with a southern exposure, 39% in apartment with a south-eastern exposure. The average of ratio of shadow area in the descended site toward the north is 49% in apartment with a southern exposure, 34% in apartment with a south-eastern exposure. The average of ratio of shadow area in the descended site toward the south is 66% in apartment with a southern exposure, 53% in apartment with a south-eastern exposure.
A Study on the Feature of Plan Type and Space Composition of the Siheyuan Housing in China

The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyse the features of plan type and space composition of the Siheyuan(courtyard house) which is one of the most remarkable types of the traditional dwellings in China. With the passage of time this house developed into one of the chinese house style. The technique of Siheyuan's spatial composition goes so far back in the New Stone Age. The relics of this are the colony layout, the system of four sides, the layout type of a palace, the picture of lacquered ware, the pictured brick, the earthenware of house type, the cave painting, the paintings of painters and others. The fundamental spatial conception of it arranges one or more courtyards to compose, sometimes in a very complex way, a general walled compound. The main longitudinal axis is mainly north-south, but the chief buildings, or halls are always placed transversely to it. These rectangular buildings mayor may not connect, by means of open galleries variously planned, with rows of smaller buildings flanking the courtyards on both sides. On this system, enlargement is never carried out by adding to height, but by continual duplication of existing units, and growth in breadth or preferably depth. The need for family security is thought to have led to the development of this rectangular houses with walls mainly blank on the outside, defensible entrances, and public service facilities in the center of the houses.
A Study on the Analysis of Residential Environment based on the Physical Quality Indicators in Apartment Housing -Focused on the Quality of Outdoor Spaces-

The purpose of this research is to analyze the residential environment based on the physical quality indicators in apartment housing through the case study of 36 housing estate samples which were built in 1994-1998. The contents of this research consists of two main parts. The first part is to select the quality indicators based on the residential satisfaction of dwellers. The second part is to analyze the residential environment based on the selected quality indicators in apartment housing. This research will contribute to the establishment of the site planning methods which increase the quality of residential environment in apartment housing.
A Study on the Quantitative Analysis of View by the Projection Method in the Residential Buildings

The quantitative analysis of view tells how surroundings and sky are showed, and requires understanding of visual perception and three dimensional information of buildings. The visual perception and the existing projection methods for view analysis are examined. The results of this study are as follows: The visual perception on the size is determined by the visual angle, which can be described as a solid angle. The analysis of view by planar projection can be narrow-sighted according to the size of the window and the location of the viewpoint, which will cause the obstacles in the normal direction of the window interfere the view. For the analysis of view by fisheye projection, the area around the focus point is calculated wider than other areas, and so the view ratio depends on the position of the focus point. When analyzing sky view by dividing the sky vault into the differential area, the distortion by projection can be minimized.
A Study on the Physical Environment in 24 Hours Child Care Centers

This project, conducted in Korea, sought to investigate the physical environment of 24 hurs child care centers in order to suggest desirable perspective on it. For this study, documentary research, interviews and survey methods were used. Materials of the 24 hurs child care center were reviewed. The interviews and survey were conducted in 25 public and private centers in Seoul, Busan, Ulsan and Jinju. Caregivers were surveyed children's daily living and regarding the evaluation of physical environment of kitchen, bathroom and restroom of the center. The result of the documentary review indicates that there need to be increased the number of the 24 hr child care centers with quality. Mostly, caregivers were satisfied with the physical indoor environment of the center. However, they wanted the sleeping room and bathroom with bathtub for 24 hurs caring children. This result would be helpful to create useful database for planning the 24 hrs child care center.

Recently, the environmental conservation has been emphasized over the world. Building industry should carefully reflected the development focused on the economic aspect as well as the environmental considerations. Therefore, it requires the technology development to mitigate the environmental pollution through the reducement of the energy and resources usage amount over the building life cycle. For these, it should be required to set up the analysis methodology to grasp the amount of the environmental pollution and energy and resources in each step of building life cycle. In this paper, it aimed at preparing the analysis process and analyzing the embodied energy and
emission according to the building work, field work, mechanical and electrical work on the new building and remodelling, utilizing the inventory analysis which is one of the LCA process.
An Evaluation on the Thermal Performance of the Room Control System for Radiant Floor Heating

In this study, the thermal performance of the room control system is analyzed in terms of control performance, potential for coil expansion and energy consumption through experiments comparing the individual room control system and an existing system. The results of this study show that the existing system is not able to supply design water flow rate and does not accurately maintain the set point temperature in each room. However, the individual room control system can set a room air temperature for each room, for it is able to supply design water flow and accurately control the set point temperature in each room and can reduce the energy consumption compared to the existing system. Moreover, the individual room control system can reduce the number of coil division zone and facilitates the construction process, because it can extend the length of the coil division.
The Function of the Living Room and Anbang through the Activities of Daily Living and Family Rituals

The aim of this study was to investigate the trend of the room where activities of daily living and family rituals(activities of non-daily living) were performed between 1992 and 2002. Research data was collected in 1992 and 2002 from households living in Seoul that have university student by using questionnaire surveys. Data was analyzed using the SPSS package program. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) Living room was a multi-function space for various activities: receiving guests, family communication, ironing, sewing and dining as well as a kitchen. Anbang(master bed room) is the place where the couple sleeps. Anbang's function has changed from a multi-function space to a private space. 2) Most of the families performed the majority of the family rituals in the living room and Anbang. In 1992, traditional events and birthday parties were performed in Anbang, but in 2002, the trend has changed. This would mean that with time the majority of the family rituals were held in the living room. 3) Space planning is required to meet the dwellers' use of living room and Anbang.
A Study on the Effect of Physical Environment of Childroom on Children's Emotion

The purpose of this research is to find out environmental characteristics of elementary school children's room, and determine the relationship between children's room environment and their emotional characteristics. For the research, used were a developed measurement instrument for environmental characteristics of children's room as well as the emotion measurement instrument published by Korean Testing Co. and developed by Dr. Lee Jong-seung for elementary school children in their higher year grades. The results showed that environmental characteristics of children's room has relationship with children's emotional characteristics. The order of environmental characteristics had a direct and high relationship with children's emotional characteristics, while originality had indirect relationship with children's emotional characteristics through intervening variables. The human relationship of children's emotional characteristics was the most influenced by children's room environmental characteristics.
A Study on the Design of Optimum Dimension of Staircase -Focused on the Minimum Dimension of Riser, Tread and Slope for Safety on Staircase-

The purpose of this study is to suggest the method of prevention of staircase accidents, and to make housing environment better through researching the dimension of a housing staircase for Korean. The scope and method of this thesis is to investigate the dimension limits of a staircase (slope, minimum width of tread, maximum height of riser), and to analyze the characteristics of foot condition (jutting rate, foot angle, ball joint, nosing clearance, clearance distance) using the experiment which takes a photograph of foot motion during walking stairs. The Effect of Decline in Functional Ability on Relocation among the American Elderly aged 70 or older

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of functional ability on relocation among the elderly. Longitudinal data from the Asset and Health Dynamics among the Oldest Old (1993, 1995) were analyzed for 6,225 respondents aged 70 or older. Among functional ability measures, difficulties in advanced activities of daily living (i. e., making telephone calls, taking medications, and managing money), lower body activities (i. e., walking several blocks, climbing one flight of stairs, pulling or pushing large objects, and carrying over 10 pounds), and household activities of daily living (i. e., preparing hot meals and shopping for groceries) were the predictors of increased residential move. Difficulties in basic activities of daily living (i. e., bathing, dressing, getting in and out, and using the toilet) were strongly related to increased entrance into an institutional care facility. Efforts to enhance the independent living of the elderly in the community setting should target the compensation of these functional difficulties.
A Study on the Feasibility of the Apartment Remodeling in the Provinces -Focusing on S Apartment in Daejeon City-

The purpose of this study is to provide the feasibility of apartment remodeling types in DaeJeon City. This study was conducted by survey for the residents' perceptions of the apartment remodeling. In addition, this study estimated the cost according to remodeling types by comparing it with that other apartments in DaeJeon City. By doing so, this study evaluated the feasibility of remodeling. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Not only the level of the residents' perception but also the intention of apartment remodeling was high. 2. The cost of remodeling was similar to that of residents had answered at questionaire. Thus, the remodeling cost proven to be very reasonable. 3. The cost of horizontally expanding remodeling type was cheaper than that of moving within the same apartment complex or into the new apartment. The cost of others (duplex, expansion or reduction of household) are cheaper that of moving. But one of the difficulties in carrying out these types lies in the fact that the remodeling should be performed in the apartment complex or building. Accordingly, this study proposes that horizontally expanding remodeling type is more feasible in DaeJeon City.
The Basic Study on the Complementation of Green Building Certification Criteria in Consideration of Open Housing -Focus on the Related Items of the Open Housing-

Recently, the housing market in Korea has been changed from new construction to building-stocks, and focusing on supplier to focusing on users. Open housing is a design method not only content to users' various needs but also to the means of sustainable development by adapted to longevity of buildings. There are some indicators for Open Housing related to Green Building Certification Criteria which were worked by Mock & ME. But those indicators are limited to flexible design methods. This is a basic study for the selecting of Open Housing indicators for complementation of Green Building Certification Criteria by the analysis of SI housing in Japan, domestic Green Building Labelling and those of other countries.
A Study on the Development for the Real Estate Appraisal Information System

As development of Information Technology and Internet are available, many industries are creating a lot of values through extension from physical space to virtual reality. However, use of Information Technology and Internet in real estate appraisal is unprepared. As a result, There is necessity of appraisal information system development based on GIS and Internet for pratical use of Information Technology. Therefore, in this study, presented development model which present a basic design of appraisal information system to fulfill information request in appraisal and use GIS and Internet.
