Comparison of the Actual Uses and Perceptions about Traditional Clothes by Korean and Japanese Female College Students

This study was intended to look into the actual status of using their own traditional clothes, by Korean and Japanese female college students, and to compare the differences of their perceptions about the traditional clothes of their own and the other countries, and thus to present the ways beneficial for Korean female college students to establish their positive recognition toward traditional clothes. For the study, the questionnaire method was used, by which a total of 375 sheets was collected; Frequency analysis and t-test were conducted with a SPSS 12.0 statistic program. The findings were as follows; Korean female college students, in comparison with their Japanese counterparts, owned less traditional clothes suitable and wearable for their body, and so they had a less number of wearing and renting experiences. In addition, they indicated a low level of realization about the suitability of traditional clothes to the wearers in their 10's, 20's and 30's. While they thought highly of their traditional clothes in the item of 'pride,' they had a low level of recognition in the item of 'knowledge,' and they considered the traditional clothes to be inconvenient. Korean college students revealed a lower level of favorable interest in the other country, but they had a higher level of evaluation for the items of 'design applicability' and 'popularity' than the Japanese college students did.
A Study on Personality Expression and the Awareness of Body Type - Focusing on Korea's Jeonnam Province and Yanbian, China College Students -

This paper aims to investigate if a total of 266 college students from Yanbian, China, and Korea's Jeonnam Province are satisfied with their face and body type, and to find out an image-development method, depending on body characteristics. For this, a questionnaire survey using the 5-point Likert Scale was conducted, and an SPSS program has been used for data analysis. Besides the descriptive analysis, crosstab analysis, t-verification, and frequency analysis have been conducted. As body shape, posture, costume, accessories and makeup play an important role in image formation, this paper intends to form positive ego through exact awareness of the body shape by providing base data to a set image-development strategy. Then, the result has turned out as follows: First, in terms of the body index (i.e., Rohrer index), both Korea's Jeonnam Province and China's Yanbian college students were included in a category of the mean value. In terms of satisfaction with their body shape, on the contrary, China's China's Yanbian college students were higher than Korea's Jeonnam Province college students. Second, male China's Yanbian college students were slightly higher than female China's Yanbian college students in terms of satisfaction with their facial shape. However, the male students showed no big interest in facial care. Third, in terms of facial shape, an egg-shaped face was the most preferred in both China's Yanbian and Korea's Jeonnam Province college students, followed by an inverted triangle-shaped face in China's Yanbian college students and a diamond-shaped face in Korea's Jeonnam Province college students, showing significant difference (
). Even though both college students live in Northeast Asia, their preference on facial shape turned out to greatly differ, which indicates their different social environments. This paper will be helpful in global marketing for college students who are the major consumers in the future as Korean-Chinese exchange increases.
A Basic Research on the Blouse Pattern of Middle-School Girls' Uniform

This research attempts to analyze the physical characteristics of middle school girls and compare the product sizes and patterns of school uniform blouses by brand. And wearing tests were performed regarding the appearance of blouse by bland. The results are follows. The standard deviation for bust circumference and waist circumference of middle school girls measured in 2004 were showed extremely large difference among individuals compared to the previous results. While waist back length reached adult size by
grade high school, bishoulder length reached adult size by
grade middle school. And girls after
grade middle school had their depth and breadth of bust, underbust circumference and bust circumference growing proportionally. These results need to be reflected in producing a pattern drafting for middle schoolers. By comparing wearing test results on appearance, it was shown that in terms of ease of bust circumference, the expert group evaluated brand with less ease as not having adequate ease compared to brand, while the middle schooler group evaluated as having sufficient ease. The front silhouette also showed same results. This reflects the preference for appearance by the middle schooler group, which is a factor to be considered during pattern drafting of school uniform blouse.
Adolescents' Attitudes toward Counterfeits: Consumer Ethics & Reference Group Influence

Counterfeiting is a fast growing market worldwide. The purposes of this study were to examine adolescents' attitudes toward counterfeits, their ethical beliefs, and reference group influence on purchasing counterfeits. Two hundred thirteen high school students in Seoul and subside, South Korea, voluntarily participated in the study. As the results, approximately 30% of the adolescents had purchased counterfeits. Also, the adolescent buyers of counterfeits tended to purchase counterfeit goods as more alternative of genuine products than non-buyers, and did have more positive feeling toward counterfeits than non-buyers of counterfeits. In addition, adolescent buyers of counterfeits had lower consumer ethics than non-buyers. Finally, adolescents who have purchased counterfeits were more influenced by their peer group than those who have not. The findings would benefit marketers and educators in understanding of adolescents' purchasing counterfeit products, and contribute to develop strategies regarding counterfeits. Based on these results, some strategies for marketers and educators would be suggested.
The Effect of Perceived Benefits and Obstacles on the Continuous Internet Adoption Intention in Fashion Companies

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the perceived benefits and obstacles of fashion companies, which utilizes the internet as a marketing or commercial transaction tool, have effect on the continuous internet adoption intention, and to analyze the differences between the companies that have introduced the internet commercial transaction and those that have not. A survey was conducted from January
in 2009, among the employees of fashion companies carrying out internet business. A total of 314 respondents used in the data analysis, the statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test and multiple regression analysis. The results show that the elevation of the business results, improvement in customer relationship and raise in market reactivity of the perceived benefits has effect on the continuous internet adoption intention of fashion companies. There are differences in the elevation of the business results, improvement in consumer relationship, miscellaneous expenses and the continuous internet adoption intention between companies that introduced a internet commercial transaction system and those that have not.
An Exploratory Study of Immoral Consumer Behavior: Apparel Retail Salespeople's Perspectives

The purpose of this study is to identify apparel consumers' immoral shopping behaviors from apparel retail sales associates' perspectives. As a first step to understand immoral consumer behaviors in apparel retail setting, the study took an exploratory approach using five focus-group interviews with 35 apparel salespeople. The immoral behavior of fashion (product) consumers was divided into two categories: one was the immoral behavior associated with the product, and the other was the immoral behavior relative to the consumer. The immoral behavior associated with the product was classified into three types: shoplifting, inappropriate returns, and damaging to merchandise. Immoral behavior relative to the consumer was classified into two types: abusive behavior by a consumer toward sales associates and excessive demand. Although, shoplifting was the primary immoral behavior mentioned by all interview participants, most sales associates failed to recognize shoplifting as a serious criminal behavior. Another commonly mentioned immoral consumer behaviors was retail borrowing, which may pose serious problems to the fashion industry. The findings of this study will provide a basis for approaches that may help decrease immoral consumer behavior at fashion retail stores and provide a basis for developing materials for consumer education over the long term.
A Study on T-shirt Design Using Doggaebi Pattern

The purpose of this study is to design t-shirts by using doggaebi patterns as traditional cultural products. Byuksa has the meaning of keeping away wicked spirits and to receiving good fortune. Most of the pictures of magpies, tigers, dragons, hawks, and roosters contain the meaning of protection and the doggaebi pattern is a typical Byuksa pattern. By way of example of product development, this study will develop designs by using doggaebi patterns and promote beautiful Korean traditional patterns as well as Korean traditional culture. The reason for choosing the T-shirt is because T-shirts are a basic item that all people have and wear, so Koreans and foreigners get interested in them and buy them. This study presents designs for 5 kinds of t-shirts for adults and another five kinds for kids using doggaebi patterns. This study was limited to the doggaebi pattern, so it is expected more studies about patterns and many cultural products will develop.
Analysis of Physical/Mechanical Properties and Color of Bast Fiber Fabrics Dyed using Rubia akane Nakai

The fashion industry saw the emergence of environment-friendly and natural fabric materials recently. The naturalism trend has established sectors in the textile and fashion industry also. Ramie and hemp have long been favored fabric materials in Korea especially for summer. The hand-related mechanical/physical properties of the fabric specimens were analyzed using a fabric objective measurement system, KES(Kawabata Evaluation System). Subjective evaluation was also implemented based on a series of selected adjectives. Studies on natural dyeing methods are important since the establishment of scientific approach is needed in terms of environment and human safety along with the reproduction of traditional natural dyeing methods. In this study, linen, ramie, hemp, and cotton/polyester/linen union fabric specimens were used for the natural dyeing using Rubia akane Nakai with the mordant of gallnut.

Middle-Aged of the British Women's Apparel Purchase Situation Analysis

The purpose of this study is to analyze the middle-aged British women's apparel purchase behavior. The results of this study can be used to present the tendency of Korean middle-aged women's apparel purchase behavior when they become the old-aged by comparing and analyzing the British women's purchase behavior. We found that they prefer to choose and purchase their clothes by their own decision-making and search for actively the new brands for old age. Strong willingness was showed that their level of consumption amounts for clothing would be the same level between middle-aged and old-aged. It was also presented that they like to see a old-aged fashion model for fashion advertisement rather than a younger one and prefer to use the expression of 'mature' rather than a stereotypical expression such as a silver, gray and gold. The segmentation of fashion market by age can not be simply standardized. We expect that the propensity for clothing purchase behavior pattern of middle-aged women will not be changed and keep the same tendency by the time of their old-aged. We expect that this research results can be used as a basic material for another study and setting up the product developments and marketing strategies.
A Study of Onion Skin Pigments in the Extracting Solvents and Residual Pigments after Dyeing the Textiles

To set up the outstanding and scientific dyeing method in making the condensed liquid of pigment obtained from onion skins and the improved reliability, the following basic experiments were performed. The pigment was extracted in the distilled water at
and methanol at room temperature and then it was analyzed with LC/MS/MS system (Liquid Chomatography/Mass Spectroscopy/Mass Spectroscophy, LIQ Advantage Max, Thermo Finnigan, USA) for its pigmental characteristics. The unrefined silk and refined silk were dyed by making use of the derived pigment in such a way. The chromameter (CR-200, Minolta, Japan) was used to measure the change in surface color in textiles to be dyed by the extracting condition and the color difference
was determined according to the color difference formula CIE LAB through measuring the psychometric lightness L* and chromaticity coordinates a* and b*.

This study is done in Shanghai area by sample survey of female college students. Through direct contact survey, this study collected and analyzed information on figure to understand feature of breasts and measurements of body to provide base information to improve product of brassiere for adult female in China. Data was analyzed by using SPSSWIN 13.0 Program and SAS 9.0. 1. From a result of analysis on the body measures to understand the characteristics of the shape of the breast of the Chinese female college students(18
24 years old), the bust circumference was 83.86cm and the underbust circumference was 73.37cm and the cup size of a brassiere was 75A. 2. From a result of analysis on the bust measures to understand the relations between the front, lateral and cross-sectional proportions of the bust and the shape of the breast in the Chinese female college students, the chest height was 0.77, the bust height was 0.71 and the underbust height was 0.68 as the information of the body type that shows the location of the bust that is the measure of an item to a height as the front proportion of the bust. For the lateral proportion of the bust, the chest depth of the waist depth was 0.98, the bust depth, 1.21 and the underbust depth, 1.03. While the bust depth/waist depth is ideal when being 1.3, it was 1.21 in this study to be close to the ideal lateral shape. For the cross-sectional proportion of the bust, the area of the largest evenness was the bust followed by the waist, underbust and chest in order. 3. From a result of analysis on the correlation between measured items necessary to understand the characteristic of the shape of the breast, to set up the sizes and to produce the patterns, the underbust circumference had a relatively high correlation between the items of breadth, depth and circumference and weight as the items of basic areas.
A Study on the Shrinkage of Silk Fabric by

The phenomenon of the shrinkage of silk fibers induced by inorganic salts including LiBr,
, has been studied up to the present as one of the finishing methods of silk. It is expected that the shrinkage phenomenon may greatly contribute to the realization of the high sensibility of silk fibers. Especially the shrinkage enables the expression of three-dimensional appearance of silk fabrics along with the improvements in dimensional stability, resilience in stretching, and comfort. Numerous theoretical studies on the contraction phenomenon by
have been conducted so far. These studies have focused mostly on the silk fibers. It is difficult to find studies on silk fabrics. The negative aspects of the finishing are such as strength drop, yellowish discoloration, and fiber damage. These should also be considered as well as the positive aspects. In this study, the phenomenon of salt shrinkage is diversely reviewed by applying
solution for the silk fabrics as objects. The changes in the air permeability, thickness, and color were investigated with focus on the shrinkage of the silk fabrics according to the changes in treatment conditions. Some findings from this study are as follows: Within short period of time at the initiation of salt shrinkage, the salt shrinkage proceeds effectively. In the case of concentration of 47.4%, or 46.3% of
solution, appropriate treatment time seems to be 20seconds, or
minutes, respectively. Excessive shrinkage is obtained when lower liquor ratio is adopted. As a result, the condition is acting extremely disadvantageously against the thickness and yellow discoloration aspects.
