A Study on the changes of electric charge induced by Apchim (押鍼) manipulation during acupuncture therapy

Objective : hypothesis. First of all, there exists electric property in meridian and meridian point. Second of all, energy flowing in meridian is related with electric property. Third of all, there is electronic interaction between the operator who performs acupuncture therapy and the receiver who is given acupuncture therapy. Forth of all, acupuncture effects may depend on the electric capacity which is transferred between the operator and the receiver via acupuncture needle. Methods : Under the hypothesis, I studied the effects of electric charge in ST37(+) and ST39(-) generated by Apchim (押鍼) manipulation which was stimulated at ST36 point. And compared with data on the changes of electric charge from the hand of the operator during acupuncture stimulation. Electric charge induced via acupuncture needle from the operator may be important factor that causes the changes of electric charge in meridian and acupoint in the receiver. Therefore we investigated the changes of electric charge induced by the operator using Maclab 400 by the following methods. The one was in stable electric circle condition and the other was in unstable electric circle condition. In this experiments, the changes of electric charge from the stimulation type of Apchim manipulation performed in our lab condition in acupuncture therapy was induced at least three factor, one was the difference of bio-potentials between the operator and the receiver of acupuncture therapy, another was the depth of acupuncture insertion from the skin of the receiver the other was an electromyogram of the receiver. Results :The data imply that the first factor should make a capacitance current when the operator touched the acupuncture needle which was inserted in the receiver. Therefore, the results suggest that capacitance currents stimulus in electronic view may be important factor in acupuncture therapy between the operator and the receiver of acupuncture therapy.
Biophysical Characteristics of Meridian System with Two Pain Diseases

Objectives : Although previous anatomic, physiological and biophysics studies have examined the acupuncture meridian system, much remains unclear and controversial. This study was undertaken to examine electrical potential aspects of the meridian system. Electric potential was measured at the well and sea acupoints on the twelve acupuncture meridians (AM), on forty patients half with loin lesions, and pain of loin and lower extremities(LL) and half with shoulder lesions, and aching of shoulder and arm(SA). The object was to determine to what extent electric potential is an important risk factor between LL and SA. Methods : At the left and the right side with each of twenty LL and twenty SA patients, physiograph was used to measure electric potentials of AM ten sessions. T-test was used to compare the mean of electric potential between the two different pain groups and multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the risk of the 24 electric potentials measured. Results and Conclusions : In the LL, the only electric potential that was statistically significantly greater than SA was the bladder meridian on the left side. On the contrary, electric potentials in SA, which includes the large intestine, pericardium, triple burner, spleen, stomach, kidney and gallbladder meridians, were statistically larger than those of LL at the same side. On the right side, the five kinds of electric potentials(lung, large intestine, small intestine, pericardium and gallbladder meridian) of LL were statistically larger than those of SA. On the triple burner, stomach and kidney meridians electric potentials of SA were larger than those in LL. After adjusting for 24 electric potentials, pain risk factors, and different illness categories, multiple stepwise selection logistic regression modeling, resulted in the final selection of a total of 13 statistically significant electric potentials. These were 7 electric potentials at left side - small intestine, triple burner, spleen, stomach, bladder, liver and gallbladder meridian, and 6 at rght side - lung, large intestine, heart, pericardium, kidney and bladder meridian.
The Effects of Reinforcing Acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK, Reinforcing Acupoint of Kidney JEONGGYEOK, Combination of Reinforcing Acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK and Kidney JEONGGYEOK, Reinforcing and Reducing Acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK on Focal Ischemia Induced by Inserted Intraluminal Filament in MCA of Rats

Objectives : The acupuncture has been used as treatment of disease in the oriental medicine. In this study, it was investigated at had an effects of Heart JEONGGYEOK(心正格) of SAAM five evolutive phase acupuncture techniques(舍岩五行鑛法) for appling deficiency in the heart induced by experimental focal ischemia. Materials and methods : The focal ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion for 2hours. The groups divided into 6 groups, normal(intactness group), control(no therapy group after ischemia-induced), AT1(reinforcing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9 after ischemia-induced), AT2(reinforcing acupoint of Kidney JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced) AT3(combination of reinforcing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK and Kidney JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced) AT4(reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, HT3, KI10 after ischemia-induced), AT4(reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK : acupuncture therapy group at LRI, HT9, HT3, KI10 after ischemia-induced). Acupuncture therapy was carried out during 3 weeks after focal ischemia-induced. Eight-arm radial maze was used for the behavioral task and neuropretective effect of acupuncture therapy was observed by Cresyl violet, AchE, ChAT-stain. Results : The error rate in the eight-arm radial maze task was significantly decreased in AT3 group on 3days, in AT1 and AT4 groups on 4days, in AT3 and AT4 groups on 5days compared to the control group. The rate of correct choice was significantly increased AT4 group compared to the control group. The density of neurons in the hippocampal CA1 were significantly increased in all experiment groups, AT1, AT2, AT3 and AT4 groups compared to the control group. The density of AchE in the hippocampal CA1 was significantly increased in AT4 group compared to the control group. The density of ChAT in the hippocampal CA1 were significantly increased in AT1 and AT3 group compared to the control group. Conclusions : These results suggest that reinforcing and reducing acupoint of Heart JEONGGYEOK could be used as a medication for controlling the stroke by deficiency in the heart.
Antioxidant Property of Aqua-Acupuncture Solution from Circium japonicum

Objectives : Circium japonicum is a pharmacologically active used in traditional Korean medicine. An aqua-acupuncture solution of the Circium japonicum was assessed to determine the mechanism of its antioxidant activity. Materials : Circium japonicum was obtained from a Dongguk Korean Medicine Hospital (Kyung-ju, Kyungbuk). The freeze-dry powder was collected (yield 5.1%) for the aqua-acupuncture solution. Scavenging activity on DPPH free radicals by the Circium japonicum aqua-acupuncture solution (CJAS) was assessed according to the method followed by Gyamfi et al.. and then scavenging activity orl superoxide radicals
was assessed by the method described by Gotoh et al. with slight modification. Deoxyribose assay to determine the rate constant for the reactions between either antioxidants and hydroxyl radicals or antioxidants and iron ions. We tested by; (1) Non-site-specific scavenging assay (hydroxyl radicals, OH), (2) Site-specific scavenging assay (chelate iron ions), and (3) Pro-oxidant effect of the CJAS on iron dependent hydroxyl radical generation. Finally, we determined hydroxyl radical-mediated DNA nicking formation. Conclusion : Our study demonstrated that CJAS has antioxidant activities and we investigated the potential effectiveness of CJAS in preventing oxidative stress-mediated disease further.
Effect of Cervus Elaphus-Herbal Acupuncture on Focal Ischemia Induced by Inserted Intraluminal Filament in MCA of Rats

Objectives : Cervus Elaphus(CE) has been used to medication for ischemic stroke in the Oriental Medicine. So this study was planned to investigate the effects of CE herbal acupuncture therapy(CE-HAT) on the focal ischemia-induced by intraluminal filament insertion in the rats. Materials and methods : The focal ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion for 2hours. The groups divided into 6 groups, normal(intachess group), control(no theray group after ischemia-induced), CE-HAT1(Cervus Elaphus-herbal acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9 after ischemia-induced), CE-HAT2(Cervus Elaphus-herbal acupuncture therapy group at LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced), CE-HAT3(Cervus Elaphus-herbal acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, LU8, KI7 after ischemia-induced), CE-HAT4(Cervus Elaphus-herbal acupuncture therapy group at LR1, HT9, HT3, KI10 after ischemia-induced). CE-HAT was carried out during 3 weeks after focal ischemia-induced. Effects of acupuncture at Gansoo(B-18) and (Chungwan (CV-12) on Serum Lipid Composition and Antioxidative Capacity in Rats Fed Peroxidized Lipids

Objectives : To investigate the effects of acupuncture at Gansoo (B-18) and Chungwan (CV-12) on lipid metabolism in rats fed peroxidized lipid diet. Methods : Effects of acupuncture at Gansoo and Chungwan on plasma and liver lipid composition and antioxidative capacity were investigated in rats fed peroxidized lipids. Results : Although the level of plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride showed a tendency to decrease in the acupuncture group, the plasma HDL-cholesterol concentration showed no significant difference. The level of liver total cholesterol and triglyceride showed no significant difference in all treatment groups. Thiobarbituric acid( TBARS ) values in plasma and liver showed a tendency to decrease in the acupuncture groups. The plasma GOT and GPT activities showed low values in the acupuncture groups. The liver glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase activity showed high values in the acupuncture groups. Conclusions : The results suggest that acupuncture at Gansoo (B-18) and Chungwan (CV-12) may have an influence on lipid metabolism via enhancing antioxidative capacity.
The Effects of Eriobotryae Folium Herbal-acupuncture at ST36 on ovalbumin-induced asthma in C57BL mouse

To study the effects of EF(Eriobotryae Folium) herbal acupuncture on asthma, we injected EF-HAS into Jok-samni(ST36) of C57BL/6 mice Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of EF-HA(herbal acupuncture) at ST36 on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks(once a week). Experimental groups were treated with concentrations(1%) of EF-HA at Jok-samni(ST36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). Result : 1. The weight and total cells of lung of the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with that of Control group. 2. Total Leukocytes and Eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 3. The sticking of collagen on histological analysis of lung sections, the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 4. The concentration of IgE, IL-4, IL-5 in BALF of the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 5. The concentration of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in Serum of the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 6. The number of
cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with EF-HA decreased significantly compared with those of Control group. 7. The cytokine's manifestation of mRNA of the mice group treated with EF-HA with RT-PCR decreased significantly compared with that of Control group. Conclusion : We conclude that EF-HA is effective on OVA-induced asthma of C57BL/6 mouse.

The Effect of Plantaginis Semen Herbal Acupuncture on Acute Renal Failure in Rat

Objective : This study was undertaken to determine if Plantaginis Semen herbal acupuncture(PSA) has a protective effect on glycerol-induced acute renal failure in rats. Methods : Rats were dehydrated for 24hr and then injected with 4 ml/kg of 50% glycerol in each hindlimb muscle. A Acupuncture Therapy Literature Study on the Gastroduodenal Ulcer

Object : The purpose of this study is to arrange the literature about a acupuncture therapy on the gatroduodenal ulcer. Methods : We arrange twenty five kinds of literature about a acupuncture therapy on gastric pain coming within the category of the gatroduodenal ulcer. Results : The cause of gastric pain is disunion of liver and spleen caused by overeating, uncontrolled emotion. The gastric pain is accompanied by lack of appetite, nausea & vomiting, belching, constipation, abdominal discomfort and so on. Therapy methods of the gastric pain are tonifying the spleen, eliminating pathological coldness and alleviation of pain, draining the liver and replenish Ki. Acupuncture point at S36, P6, CV12, B20, B21, B18, B17 used frequently for the acupuncture therapy in the order of frequency of use. Conclusions : Meridians of Conception Vessel, Stomach, Spleen, Bladder and Liver used frequently for the acupuncture therapy. The meridian used for treatment of the gastroduodenal ulcer is related to it passing by a painful place in the body.
Research for general regulation acupoints prescription's in

Objective : <千金方(Qianjinfang)> which documents a great amount of prescription of Acupuncture and moxibustion takes an important role during the development of acupuncture and moxibustion. Thus, it have given rise us to the research-situation of Tang Dynasty China of previous period. This study was to outline the rules of choosing acupoints as well as the prescriptions of contemporary times in reference with <千金方(Qianjinfang)>, and to discuss the conception of acupuncture and moxibustion in <千金方(Qianjinfang)>. Method : Based on <千金方(Qianjinfang)>, the parameters were categorized to a certain scope, syndromes in different type were classified. Also numbers of acupoints, route of meridians locations, utilities of special acupoints even prescription methods were statistically analyzed in reference with <千金方(Qianjinfang)>. Results & Conclusion : Acupuncture prescription in <千金方(Qianjinfang)> was mostly presented by single acupoint and this was basic prescription of its rule of choosing acupoints. Choosing acupoint for the majority of various diseases started from choosing meridians with the disorder, but no rules for choosing acupoints was clear. There was basically various methods in choosing acupoints, but little were used by Biao-li meridian choosing method (表裏經配穴). In the high frequency of use, wu-shu acupoints was higher used than other specific acupoints (特定穴). While wu-shu acupoints treated the major parts of the diseases, shu-mo acupoints were strictly used on system. Consequently, The theoretical basis originating the choosing rules of the acupoints and prescriptions was shown in <手金方(Qianjinfang)> as representative clinical reference, through which it was valuable to analyze the prescription rule and specificity of the acupoints.
Functional Cerebrospinal Therapy (FCST), a New Physiologic Therapeutics Developed as Meridian Yin-Yang Balance Approach

Objectives : Functional Cerebrospinal Therapy (FCST) is a new physiologic therapeutics developed in Korea as a meridian yinyang balance approach. The theory of yinyang balance has been at the core of health enhancement approach of meridian and acupuncture medicine ever since its start. Methods : Introductory overview of FCST is presented in relation with meridian yinynag balance theory. Results : As the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and related tissues have direct interconnection with brainstem proprioceptive or motor systems and the face is where all the meridians converge, FCST applies a fine adjustment of the posture of TMJ as a treatment tool for neurologic conditions or meridian imbalances. Conclusions : Highly sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to adjust various subset aspects of yinyang balance are developed within FCST, which is supposed to be one of major contributions to natural healing.
A study on point-location by finger-sensation -within the context of

Objective : The skill of locating acupoints accurately is an essential part of acupuncture treatment. Bone-scale has been used as a basic coordinates to locate acupoints and has been considered as an important factor of locating acupoints. This study was designed to stress the impotance of QieXunMenAn, which means pressing and rubbing softly the surface around the part pointed with proportional method, in locating acupoints. Methods and results : All expressions related with QieXunMenAn, among the descriptions of acupoint locations in
, were investigated. The activity of QieXunMenAn has been regarded as an important method of locating acupoints since Neijing. QieXunMenAn means pressing and rubbing softly the surface around the part pointed with proportional method. It is a process of locating acupoint in detail by finger-sensation after locating the point with proportional method. Xianzhang, Dongmaiyingshou, and Wanwanzhong have been used to describe how to locate acupuncture-point through QieXunMenAn procedure. Xianzhong means a small depression or a pit on the surface of the body. Wanwanzhong describes that it feels very soft and tender. Descriptions related with QieXunMenAn procedures were found in around 87% of acupoint locations, thus stressing out its procedure. Conclusions : Bone-scale and QieXunMenAn do not mean different methods but the procedures that should be both performed every time when we locate most of the acupoints. Until recently, QieXunMenAn has been paid less attention that it should be. OieXunMenAn as well as bone-scale may be necessary to help locate acupoints accurately.
