Densification Method of Controlled Low Strength Materials Made with Coal Ashes

This study introduces a densification technique of controlled low strength materials (CLSM) made with coal ashes by pump discharge pressure. Based on a small-scale laboratory test results, unit weight of CLSM around discharge pipe is greater than that of relatively some distant area from discharge pipe. It is also found that densification of CLSM depends on not only mixture rate of pond ash but also fly ash and location of discharge pipe.
The Anti-scale Effect according to Array of Magnetic Device

Clogging phenomenon in drainage system is one of the important problems and this phenomenon would be bad effect to structure of tunnel, so it needs a remedy urgently. Recently, scale in drainage pipe is removed by water jet cleaning and other treatment. But these treatments need much cost and regular management. In this study, magnetic device was used to solve this problem and an effect of prohibiting scale in accordance with array of magnetic device was investigated. Analysis method was visual analysis and measuring weight of each pipes. As a result, interior top and out-bottom (CASE II) was the most effective array to prohibit scale. and interior left and right (CASE III), interior top and bottom (CASE I) was effective for prohibiting scale in order.
Development of Calculating Model for Hydrological eographic Parameters Using ArcGIS ModelBuilder

The objective of this study is to develop a new GIS Model for calculating the hydrological geographic parameters efficiently using ArcGIS ModelBuilder. To evaluate the applicability of the new GIS Model, hydrological geographic parameters calculated by WMS and HEC-GeoHMS were compared with 5 geographic parameters from the new GIS Model. 18 reservoirs in Chungdo-gun were selected for this study. Hydrological geographic parameters used in this study are watershed area, stream length, watershed slope, stream slope and curve number. As the results of this study, the average relative error of 5 geographic parameters from all watersheds is shown more than 10.00%. In the results by the new GIS Model, hydrological geographic parameters are better efficiently and accurately to evaluate than those existing models.
A Study on the Mechanical Characteristic and Shear Strength haracteristic on Elapsed Time of the Western Sea Dredged Soils

The dredged soils of western sea of Korea have been used as the fill materials because it possess the characteristics that constitute silt, silty sand and sand mainly. However, a study on dredged soils as the fill materials is insufficient. Hence, in this present study, the application the dredged soils of western sea of Korea as the fill materials was confirmed. Primary, the composition characteristics of the ground was analyzed to confirm the application on dredged soils as the fill materials by the piezo-cone penetration test. In laboratory test, it was performed the self-weight consolidation test for mechanical characteristics of the dredged soils. The direct shear test using self-weight consolidation test sample for shear strength characteristics was performed after self-weight consolidation test. Additionally, the mechanical characteristics of the dredged soils on elapsed time using self-weight consolidation test sample, which is drained naturally, was evaluated. The dredged soils of western sea of Korea show that unit weight and shear strength is increased as natural drain time elapses.
Constrained Effect of Soil Nail Head on the Earthquake Load

In this study, the tests were carried out for the behavior according to method of constrained nail head of slope reinforced with soil nail under dynamic loading, by using shaking table. Shaking table tests were carried out by applying Hachinohe seismic wave having the long-period characteristics and Ofunato seismic wave having short-period characteristics, as changing constrained and unconstrained condition of nail head, and so on. Failure mode, ground acceleration characteristics, vertical displacement and horizontal displacement of slope were compared and analyzed on the basis of results obtained from the test. Results of carrying out shaking table test showed that both short-period wave and long-period wave had large effects on slope, and constraint of nail head was found to have large shear resistance for dynamic load. And it was confirmed that stability of slope under seismic loading was largely improved by constrained head of soil nail.
Evaluation of Shear Elastic Modulus by Changing Injection Ratio of Grout

Among various construction methods, deep soil stabilization by chemical method have been widely used in order to improve soft ground. Dynamic variables using ground(such as sand, weathered granite soil and rock) -structure interaction design affected by dynamic load and cyclic load were studied a lot. However, there is something yet to learn about earthquake resistant design regarding reinforced ground by grout. Therefore, in this study using RC test, the correlation between shear strain and shear modulus with change of water content and injection rate in normal portland cement and clay was compared and analyzed by using Ramberg-Osgood model normalization As the result, dynamic coefficient was considerably affected by water content and grout injection rate.
