Yoon, Gillim ; Kim, Sunbin ;
Journal of the Korean Geoenvironmental Society , volume 15, issue 3, 2014, Pages 5~13
DOI : 10.14481/jkges.2014.15.3.5
This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation on applicability of Light-weighted Foam Soils (LWFS) consisted of dredged soils for soft ground improvement. The engineering properties of LWFS were comprehensively investigated based on the previous experimental tests. And three dimensional numerical models which reflect soft ground conditions were adopted to evaluate the applicability of LWFS compared to SCP and DCM. A number of cases were analyzed using a stress-pore pressure coupled model. The results indicated that LWFS method enables to reduce more settlement, lateral flow and heaving than SCP method and enable to reduce more residual settlement than DCM method. Also it was revealed that such effect depends on the properties of LWFS such as unit weight, unconfined compressive strength, deformation modulus and Poisson's ratio.

Spilling pollutants and its contamination to the ground have serious impact to public resulting in various research about remediation techniques. In this study, the use of amphiphilic block copolymer for remediation was investigated with a series of laboratory tests on removal of hydrophobic contaminant in soil. Four types of amphiphilic block copolymer were developed and the efficiency of the cleaning was compared with surfactant using arbitrary diesel-contaminated soils. The results of the study show that the use of amphiphilic polymer in the soil washing process significantly enhanced the remediation of the contaminated soil and a potential of new methodology of eco-friendly remediation.

This Research have suggested the new estimation method using parameter estimation algorithm to substitute established velocity and friction factor calculation equation. Established calculation equation has some difficulties for estimation and reflecting exactly flow specification cause parameter uncertainty and material uncertainty governed real phenomenon, so this research has used system modeling method for flow specification estimation and suggested estimation method.

Journal of the Korean Geoenvironmental Society , volume 15, issue 3, 2014, Pages 33~40
DOI : 10.14481/jkges.2014.15.3.33
In this paper, mechanical and germination characteristics of stabilized dredged soils were investigated to recycle dredged soil in eco-friendly manner such as waterfront construction. Non sintering binder (NSB), which was developed by using interchemical reactions between slag, high-calcium fly ash, alkali activator on the dredged marine clay, was added to dredged soil. Ordinary portland cement was also used for the comparison of two binders. Experimental tests such as flow test and unconfined compressive test were carried out to evaluate characteristics of stabilized dredged soil. Leaching test, pH measure, vegetation germination test were also conducted to consider environmental applicability. The unconfined compressive tests shows that unconfined compressive strength (UCS) also increases with the increase of curing time and mixed ratio. UCS of NSB mixtures were higher than those of OPC mixtures. Germination tests showed that germination and sprouting date are better in NSB mixture than OPC mixture. It can be explained that germination decreased as pH and 7-day strength increased.
Numerical Formulation for Flow Analysis of Dredged Soil
Shin, Hosung ;
Journal of the Korean Geoenvironmental Society , volume 15, issue 3, 2014, Pages 41~48
DOI : 10.14481/jkges.2014.15.3.41
Experimental study of sedimentation and self-weight consolidation has been primary research area in dredged soil. However, good quality of the dredged soil and minimum water pollution caused by the pumping of reclaimed soil require intensive study of the flow characteristics of dredged material due to dumping. In this study, continuity and the equilibrium equations for mass flow assuming single phase was derived to simulate mass flow in dredged containment area. To optimize computation and modeling time for three dimensional geometry and boundary conditions, depth integration is applied to governing equations to consider three dimensional topography of the site. Petrov-Galerkin formulation is applied in spatial discretization of governing equations. Generalized trapezoidal rule is used for time integration, and Newton iteration process approximated the solution. DG and CDG technique were used for weighting matrix in discontinuous test function in dredged flow analysis, and numerical stability was evaluated by performed a square slump simulation. A comparative analysis for numerical methods showed that DG method applied to SU / PG formulation gives minimal pseudo oscillation and reliable numerical results.

Journal of the Korean Geoenvironmental Society , volume 15, issue 3, 2014, Pages 49~55
DOI : 10.14481/jkges.2014.15.3.49
Characteristics of sedimentation of dredged soil is depended on the field condition and characteristics of dredged soil because dredged fill ground was formed by various field condition, sedimentation and self-weight consolidation process of dredged soil. Dredged fill ground is formed as separated sedimentary layer by characteristics of dredged soil. Therefore, it requires some special test method to consider a various field condition, characteristics of sedimentation and self-weight consolidation of dredged soil. In this study, in order to identify the characteristics of sedimentation of dredged soil with disposing velocity geo-centrifuge test and laser particle size analyzer were performed. As a results, river and mixed dredged soil show the separation sedimentation by soil particle size. And sedimentation of clayey dredged soil is parallel to the bottom surface of dredged fill space.

This study has been conducted to building a library intended for structures considered in the design of reclamation for design automation and developing browser for integrated management system. The library has been developed using a parametric modeling method capable of changing section shape, also classifying standard crossing and family library, has been developed according to the working environment. Classified library by the characteristics manages objects and working modeling on based BIM has been developed browser using the C# program for objects to use conveniently. By interworking between developed Browser and 3D Autocad based BIM, it is possible to use easily at design drafting, calculating quantities, developing a new library, and managing a library. The browser using effectively exclusive library to reclamation is developed in this study.

Borehole investigation which is mainly used to figure out geotechnical characterizations at construction work has the benefit that it provides a clear and convincing geotechnical information. But it has limitations to get the overall information of the construction site because it is performed at point location. In contrast, geophysical measurements like seismic survey has the advantage that the geological stratum information of a large area can be characterized in a continuous cross-section but the result from geophysics survey has wide range of values and is not suitable to determine the geotechnical design values directly. Therefore it is essential to combine borehole data and geophysics data complementally. Accordingly, in this study, a three-dimensional spatial interpolation of the cross-sectional distribution of seismic refraction was performed using digitizing and geostatistical method (krigring). In the process, digital map were used to increase the trustworthiness of method. Using this map, errors of ground height which are broken out in measurement from boring investigation and geophysical measurements can be revised. After that, average seismic velocity are derived by comparing borehole data with geophysical speed distribution data of each soil layer. During this process, outlier analysis is adapted. On the basis of the average seismic velocity, integrated analysis techniques to determine the three-dimensional geological stratum information is established. Finally, this analysis system is applied to dam construction field.
