A Basic Study on the Evacuation Plans of Buildings
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 14, issue 4, 2000, Pages 1~6
With the "Fire Protection Building Plan" of the Building Center of Japan as a sample, actual evacuation plans used for large scaled and multi-storied buildings are analyzed. Sufficient number of samples were classified into 6 categories. For room evacuation, time to pass through the exit was the most critical point for larger spaces and movement time in the room was the key for smaller evacuation object zone and less number of evacuees. Seen from the location of fire breakout point, it was witnessed that the numbers of crowding at the exits of the fire escape staircase are serious for floor level evacuation. For vertical traffic line, it was actually proved that time to fire escaping floor is problem of higher buildings. It was also proved that special evacuation methods are in practical use in many buildings in japan.
A Study on Total Hazard Level Algorithm Development for Hazardous Chemical Substances
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 14, issue 4, 2000, Pages 7~16
In the study, three criteria(toxicity, fire & explosion, environment) and damage prediction method for each case was set up, and all these criteria were applied to the subject substance that was selected as hazardous level by integrating all criteria through Algorithm. Particularly, the environment criterion is a comprehensive concept, environment index modeling by combining USCG(United State Coast Guard) & MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheet) environment criteria classifications and the environment part of MFPA's health hazardousnes(Nh). And for damage prediction method of each criterion were adopted and they were applied to hazardous chemical substances in use or stored by chemical substance related enterprises located in each region that made possible to set up total hazard level of used substances(inflammability, poisonousness and counteraction on a unit substance, and hazard level & display modeling on environment) & damage prediction in case of accident & solidity setup(CPQRA: Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Assessment, IAEA: International Atomic Energy Agency, VZ eq: Vulnerable Zone) risk counter. Thus it is deemed that it can be applied to toxic substance leakage that can happen during any chemical processing & storage, application as a tool for prior safety evaluation through potential dangerousness computation of fire & explosion.
A Study on the Evacuation of People used the evacuation model on Fire in Shopping Mall
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 14, issue 4, 2000, Pages 17~22
For life safety design of shopping mall, we selected a shopping mall, and calculated the evacuation time of means of egress. It is calculated by two kind of evacuation method. One is the computer simulation model, EXODUS. The other is Japan's method. Study way is a model structure study, selecting real shopping mall and setting scenario, calculating the evacuating time. result of study, evaluation time is very high. Therefore we confirmed that the building of means of egress is not fit to evacuation more the capacity of setting population.
A Smoke Management System Design For Semiconductor Fabrication Facilities
;Michael J. Ferreira;;
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 14, issue 4, 2000, Pages 23~28
A performance-based design of smoke management systems for semiconductor fabrication facilities is described in this paper. The example of one such facility is discussed. Performance criteria for smoke control systems were established, effective smoke removal system features were identified and optimal system exhaust capacity requirements were developed by applying engineering tools including Fire Dynamic Simulator model. Considering the fact that the absence of relevant design guide, codes for consensus standards for semiconductor smoke design in Korea and United States this performance based approach can and should be applied to other fabrication facilities designs.
