But there exist the deviation of obscurity at the position of air supply height.
A Study on Combustion Gases Toxicity Evaluation of Polymeric Material
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 7~13
In this paper, we had analyzed comsbustion gases according to pyrolysis
for polymeric material using a GASTEC colorimetric gas detector tube in order to combustion gases toxicity evaluation for flame retardant untreated ply wood, flame retardant treated ply wood, flexible polyvinyl chloride and flexible polyurethane foam of polymeric material. As a result, comsbustion gases producted from small specimens of polymeric material had reached fatal to man at a 30 minute exposure time that had possesed toxicity index. Toxicity index at pyrolysis
of flexible polyvinyl chloride was 31.74. Flexible polyvinyl chloride was the highest toxicity index of flame retardant untreated ply wood, flame retardant treated ply wood, flexible polyvinyl chloride and flexible polyurethane foam. The comsbustion gases producted commonly no concern with pyrolysis temperature had analyzed carbon dioxide(
) and carbon monoxide(CO). Toxicity index had investigated differently according to pyrolysis temperature even a similar materal.
A Study on Flash Points of a Flammable Substancea - Focused on Prediction of Flash Points in Ternary System by Solution Theory -
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 14~20
The flash points are one of the most important fundamental properties used to determine the potential for fire and explosion hazards of flammable substances. A classification of the flash points is important for the safe handling of flammable liquids which constitute the solvent mixtures. Basic to all flash points behavior are vapor pressure and explosive limits(lower explosive limit and upper explosive limit). The flash points of flammable solvent mixtures can be calculated with the appropriate use of the fundamental laws of Raoult, Dalton, Le Chatelier and activity coefficient models. In this study, the reference values of lower flash points were compared with the calculated values by using Raoult's law and MRSM(modified response surface methodology) model. The lower flash points were in agreement with the predicted by Raoult's law and MRSM model. By means of this methodology, it is possible to evaluate reliability of experimental data of the flash points of the flammable mixtures.
Improvement Method of Hazardous Materials Facilities Installation License of Manufacturer
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 21~35
By rearing private experts to design hazardous facilities, Safety property is obstained. So it is necessary to limit within the designer of hazardous materials facilities who has some degree skill. After permission progress about the inspection of the design ascertain whether it is safety property Mayor/Do governor permits within the laws and their qualification. Accordingly, Korea Fire Equipment Inspection Corporation be come specialization about the design, inspection of construction completion. A inquire purpose of Fire Service Act be considered fitness. Subject by which the Korea Fire Equipment Inspection Corporation is entrusted, subject by which the a non-probit corporation in The Civil Law be possible to entrusted in separate. In this case, because of the level of one's technique and facilities are important, to limit as a nonprobit corporation in The Civil Law give rise to trouble. Consequently; established a business corporation, which the level of one's technique and facilities, in accordance with The Commercial Law can assign inspection of construction completion. The contents of the Fire Services Act is caused by the historic growth of hazardous facilities's safety management. Because we decide on a course about completed inspection of hazardous substance, it is needed that adjust the task performed by a corporation of the exert skill and the duty performed by the task that a authorized corporation on the civil law or the commercial law To adjust the duty, the Fire Service Act, that is suitable to the purpose and principle, should constitute a measure of the duty. With the object of insure the safety of the hazardous substance, when the fire survice act establish a corporation of the expert skill. There is the will of lawmakers that need organization to have the power of the professional technology. The state excise the will that insure the safety of hazardous materials facilities on the basis of the professional technology and facilities, and construct to establish a corporation of the expert skill. Therefore as concentrate on the technology to need to insure the safety of the facilities of hazardous substance to be suitable on the purpose of laws and take responsibility and reports to a corporation of the expert skill. The task to be given to the state will be done.
A Toxicity of Interior Upholstery in Apartment Housing
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 36~43
Several types of widely used interior upholsteries including wallpaper, veneer board and floor cover, were selected to be evaluated by using the method of NES 713 text. Test results indicates that a fire with retardant wallpaper release a large amount of toxic gases when constantly exposed to a fire source. When evaluated in terms of the masses of released gases, the release of Carbon monoxide appears the highest in case of wallpaper fire, while the ratio of CO/Mass loss appears the highest in case of floor cover fire. Therefore, it can be concluded that, a large amount of toxic gas will release from a floor cover fire with even a small quantity of fuel.
Sensitivity Measurement and Voltage Variation Using Catalytic Combustion Type Gas Sensor
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 44~48
In this study, we analyzed the
sensitivity measurement and voltage variation using catalytic type gas sensor characteristics in catalytic combustion type gas detecter sensors. Gas detector shall operate as intended when exposed for 24 hours to air having a relative humidity of 65 percent at a temperature of
and humidity of 85 percent at a temperature of
. The gas detecter sensors are to be subjected to operation for 210 days in an area that has been determined to be equivalent to a typical residential atmosphere with an air velocity of 50 cm/sec. The source of energy for a gas detector sensors employing a supplementary basic circuit is energized from a seperate source of supply direct applied voltage 2.1V, 2.2V, 2.3V. As a result, it was confirmed that the relative humidity and temperature by regression each analysis, compared to the isobutane characteristic graph and methane characteristic graph by a relative humidity of 65% and 85% at a temperature(
) show a similar linear pattern on the whore.
A Study on the Wildland Fire Total Hazard Classification
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 49~54
Recently, intentional arsons for exploitation and wildland fire caused by abnormal change of weather are increasing as well as the damage scale due to such fire in the world. The number of such big wildland fire is also increasing in Korea these days. Fire prevention activity can be said as more important than fire putting-out activity after a fire occurrence for the most effective way to cope with wildland fire, and the research on wildland fire prevention system is what we need to do urgently, In this study I examined and analyzed the experiments and data about the factors influencing wildland fire and stated the dangerousness of each factor for all of the 6 factors and set up the general dangerousness rating applying each factor's contribution to the dangerousness.
The Evaluation of Fire Safety Performance on Interior Finish Materials (Gypsum Board, Plywood)
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 55~62
The fire performance evaluation methods in Korea and overseas for interior finish materials were analysed and tested with gypsum board and Plywood by using room corner test not adopted by domestic code until now. The results of gypsum board (thickness:8 mm) and Plywood (thickness:4 mm) applying NFPA 265 and ISO 9705 test respectively are satisfied the assessment criteria. To assess a actual fire performance and classify fire hazard levels for interior finish materials, room-corner test and flame spread models should be adopted in building code and fire code to overcome limitations of current bench-scale test method.

A Study on Investigation into Actual Condition of Management in Fire Protection System -Apartment Buildings, Shopping Center, Office Buildings-
Fire Science and Engineering, volume 15, issue 3, 2001, Pages 70~76
In a daily life these days, the safety and the comfort are considered very important. As the same as other areas, the good maintenance of fire protection systems and the fire drill plans in buildings can minimize the loss of human life and the property in case of fires. In this paper, a survey has been conducted to investigate the maintenance status of the fire protection systems of apartment buildings, shopping center and office buildings. Both practical procedures for checking the systems and for fire drills and strategic plans to minimize the losses in case of fires are suggested by analyzing how well the occupants in the buildings acknowledge the evacuation drills when the fire occurs.
