Primary Fire Behavior of Compounded Multiplex Theater with Various Fire Conditions

This paper investigated the fire and smoke behavior in the compounded multiplex theater using FDS with various spacial and boundary conditions to ensure the fire safety of the multiplex. The results showed that more rapid temperature increase and smoke can be induced near the exit door for the lower fire load duo to the horizontal smoke movement. The overuse of fire resistants can generate more smoke while delaying combustion rate, which can give adverse effect to the evacuation. The mal-function of the exhaust fan would obstruct smoke exhaust but also retard the function of sprinkler head.
Consciousness of Fire Officers and Improving the Working Conditions

This research intended to show a reasonable way to improve working conditions of fire officers in Korea. It shows that fire officers have dignity of their social roles even though they have the unfairness in a work time, rewards, promotions and opportunities of overseas training compared with those of other government officers. The unfairness needs to be solved. In addition, there are more demands in fire fighters, but part of a regional government system already composed of 64.06% of fire officers, which means, there are too many fire fighters in one regional government. Therefore, it is difficult to employ more fire fighters. This is one of barriers to prevent from improvement of the working conditions. To improve the working conditions and to overcome the barriers, there are important solutions to counter the problems. Those are application of alternative policies and systems. Compared with the employment system and workload of fire officers in USA, Japan and other advanced countries, it is necessary to introduce alternative policies which include operation of partial three-shift system, expansion of oversees training, expansion of rotational-off system and improvement of employees' welfare policies.
Job Satisfaction Improvement Ways of Fire Official - With a Focus on First-aid Staff -

The result of survey on job satisfaction of first-aid staff found that degree of work-related stress of 119 first-aid staff got total average 2.54 point (SD.44) out of 4. The degree of fatigue that first-aid staff feel got 2.09 point (SD.49) out of 4. The degree of job satisfaction of 119 first-aid staff got 2.71 point out of 5. This study suggests increasing of new hire, continuous education through teaching before employment, studying abroad, and so on, expansion and modernization of first-aid equipment, introduction and management of OAT institution for improvement of job satisfaction of first-aid staff.

This study has grasped weakness factor fire safety and way aspect of fire analyzing hazardous material accident, and has investigated how by legal present kind and scale of hazardous material work that must assign hazardous material safety supervisor are prescribed. We have proposed efficient lecturing education time analyzing about validity and efficiency of education time about hazardous material safety supervisor lecturing education with question investigation to people who take hazardous material safety supervisor lecturing education that manage in korea fire safety association.
Problem and Improvement Plan of Existing Fire Examination and Investigation System

A primary task of fire department is maintaining public safety, system maintenance and welfare improvement by protecting life, body and property of a people through prevent and extinguish of the fire in emergency. Rescue part of those affairs has supported by the people but affairs related to the fire examination and investigation could not get it. Although fire examination is a very important part of fire department administration, it has been understood indifferently due to lack of awareness and concern. There are no scientific fire examination because of lacking education study and the whole responsibility capacity about it. There are many things have to be improved at fire examination and investigation system in Korea. Especially, establishment of the whole responsibility post is urgent through assuring professionals to improve accuracy of fire examination and investigation. Equipment which can do scientific fire examination and investigation have to be fully furnished. Efficiency of fire examination and investigation has to be increased through improving law related to fire examination and investigation, giving rescuers investigation right. Through this, it systematically have to be good for fire prevent.
Prediction of the Fire Behavior According to the Fire Load in an Underground Life Space

The purpose of this study is analyzing the fire behavior according to the fire load for G underground shopping mall located in Daegu city. when predict fire behavior, fire load and ventilation coefficient are important factor who dominate fire temperature or fire continuance time. Therefore, size of unit room, opening size and inflammable investigated on the field. Fire load calculated using unit calorific value by each material of inflammable that investigate. And reduction model experimented fire load about 6 models with variable. Fire behavior analyzed by heat flows of inside space that temperature rise and temperature change by time of fire source.

In order to guide the safe extinguishment duty of forest fire ground fighting team and acquire its exact location information in case of a large scale of forest fire, it is very important to monitor the real time coordination data the forest fire ground fighting team. In this study the guidance for safe extinguishment duty of forest fire ground fighting team could be provided by monitoring the current location information and moving route information, which are received form GPS through CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access).
The Development of an Environmental-Friendly Foam Extinguisher Using a Natural Surfactant

In this research, an environmental-friendly foam extinguisher was newly developed using a natural surfactant as its composition. Two criteria were applied to verify its extinguishing performance and environmental attraction. One is unit 2 model by "Standards of Model Approval and Inspection Technology for Portable Fire Extinguishers" presented in Korea Fire Equipment Inspection Corporation. The other is Terrestrial Plants, Growth Test and Fish, Acute Toxicity Test presented in Korea Institute of Toxicology(Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology). Test results showed that the extinguishing performance was 5 unit of general fire Class A, the
by germination was 75(g/kg) and the
by growth was 62(g/kg) through Terrestrial Plants, Growth Test, and also the toxicity was 6658 ppm in Fish, Acute Toxicity Test. The numerical values were highly evaluated than other fire extinguishing agents being commercialized in domestic. The results also showed suitably in basic physical properties and anti-corrosion properties for making use of fire extinguishing agent.
A Study on Fire Characteristics of Carpet and Curtain Treated or Untreated with Flame Retardant

In this study, we have evaluated the hazardous factors of fires such as heat release rate, smoke density, ignition temperature, and flammability of carpet and curtain used in the public facilities. As a result of flame retardant treatment, the heat release rate of materials treated with flame retardant was lower than that of not treated. However, the smoke density of treated materials was higher than that of not treated. Also, we have investigated the fire characteristics of used and unused carpet. As a result, the heat release rate and the smoke density of used for 3 years carpet were higher than those of unused carpet. The distinct differences of flammability and ignition temperature between used and unused carpet were confirmed.
Study of the Smoke Control Characteristics for Fire Near Jet Fans

In this research, we conducted a PIV-visualization experiment to smoke control from fires by using a neighboring Jet fan at minimum distance. We also compared our experiment results with FDS numerical analysis ones. As a result of quantitative data analysis of smoke control modes against fires in tunnel, we concluded that a neighboring Jet fan should be placed at least 25 m away from its fire source in order to produce satisfactory smoke control results. Jet fan showed the best smoke-controlling performance, if placed 50 m away from its fire source. It tended to show an overspeed around the center of tunnel when it is placed more than 75 away from its fire source.
A study on the Combustion Characteristics of Wall Paper

Combustion characteristics and toxicity of combustion gas of wallpaper samples were analyzed to evaluate the fire risk of wallpaper furnished in living space. In this study ash residue ratio was measured with high temperature electric furnace, and thermal analysis was carried out with TGA. Combustion time and smoke concentration were measured with cone heater and combustion gas analyzer. Smoke density of samples was measured using smoke chamber of ASTM E 662. The experimental results were showed as followings. Pyrolysis of silk wallpaper started at lower temperature compared to the other samples. It means that the silk wallpaper can be ignited at low heat flux and will have more fire risk than the others. Ignition time by radiation heat flux of silk wallpaper is shorter compared to the other samples, so evacuation time must be reduced. In the case of vinyl coated silk wall paper, carbon mono oxide concentration is the highest and the toxicity and damage effect to consciousness was stronger compared to the other samples. Smoke density of silk wall paper and fire retardant mixed coated silk wall paper were very high due to vinyl coating.
A study on the Analyses of T-branch Pipe Forming using a Finite Element Method

On this study, we verified the possibilities of making T-branch pipe forming with carbon steel pipes and stainless steel pipes used by common FEM Program(ABAQUS) which are widely used in the fire protection and building construction fields. In this kind of T-branch pipe forming works, in principle, the seamless pipe is used. If the pipe has the seam, the forming face must be the opposite side of the seam. The forming works are carried out by a truncated cone shaped plug. We found that the face slope and the length of plug are the most important factor in pipe forming. Based on the results of forming analyses, we proposed the minimum height and thickness of pipe branch forming.
