Numerical Predictions of Fire Characteristics of Passenger Train Fire in an Underground Subway Tunnel, Depending on Change of Location of Ventilation Facility

The study is to perform numerical analysis of train fire characteristics in an underground subway tunnel, depending the different locations of ventilation facility. To study the characteristics of train fire, two kinds of worst-case scenarios are selected, based on escape distance, escape time, and fire zone, and trends and thermal environments of tunnel are analyzed by changing the locations of ventilation facility for times. Fire characteristics is calculated by using FLUENT v.6.3.26, and turbulent flow is calculated by using the standard k-
model. The numerical results show distribution of carbon monoxide concentration, temperature, and velocity. The results of this study will contribute to building the most suitable ventilation systems when designing subway stations and tunnels.
A Study on the Characteristics and the Disaster Prevention Measures of Incendiary Fire

The objective of this study is to suggest a fire prevention measure for suppressing and preventing loss of precious human lives and property damages. The characteristics of incendiary fire are analyzed in terms of fire engineering to review a plan for promoting for coping with the risk. In this study, a medical aspect such as mental and psychological analysis of the motive or act of an incendiary and legal and administrative problems such as the penalty for the incendiary are not included in the scope of the study. Fire statistics data of Korea, Japan, and U.S. are investigated for analysis of actual states of incendiary fire occurrences. In particular, to quantitatively recognize the burning characteristics of common fire and the burning characteristics of incendiary fire, a fire model test and computer simulation were performed. And a plan for promoting the optimal incendiary fire prevention measure were suggest.
Study on the Fire Investigation by Damaged Pattern Analysis of Incandescent Lamps

In this paper, we conducted experiments on damaged patterns of incandescent lamps by external stress, such as external flame or external impact. Glass bulbs were melted and filaments were evaporated by external flame when the bulbs were lit, and finally molten marks were recognized at the filaments. Also, there were some differences in absorption patterns of evaporated filament elements according to set-up directions, and evaporated filament elements were absorbed in lead-in wires, support, inside of glass. In case the bulbs were lit and they were damaged by external impacts, filament burned out. Filaments were not evaporated but melted. We expect that this results could be used to judge whether electric current flew through incandescent lamps or not in fire site.
Fire Risk Assessment for Subway Station According to Supply and Exhaust Conditions

In this research, to establish the emission for the people who are clearing out, through the numerical analysis using the CFD model, the dangerousness has been investigated in the various emission conditions in a station platform. As a result of research, it is found out that the temperature variation falls between 65.37% and 74.97% to compare without installation of platform screen doors. In the addition, with the supply mode or push-pull mode, the warm current is generated in the platform so the temperature and the layer of smoke are stirred up and felled off. It will make the dangerousness when the people escape. Therefore, when the capacity of emission and the space of platform is set up, the design regards the properties of the fire emission.
A Study on Risk Assessment for Fire Onboard a Naval Vessel

With the huge navy projects such KDX-III, LPX, bigger and more complicated vessel constructions are being underway in navy. In this paper, considering these trends, we performed a risk analysis on the navy vessel for the fatality of soldiers on board and presented the risk level with FN curve. Assuming a fire occurs in one of the soldier bedrooms, we established event tree to visualize the possible development scenarios and calculated the fatality for each scenario. The critical condition to survive inside the bedroom was obtained through CFAST program.
Study of Thermal Diffusion in the Copper Wire Using SIMS Depth Profiling

Recently SIMS has attracted interest as new technique to distinguish the primary and the secondary arc beads. A Cs+ primary ion beam was used to detect the
secondary ions which are formed during depth profiles in the copper wires. In this work, we studied thermal diffusion in the copper wire which are occurred with supplying over-current. The results demonstrated that Carbon and Chloride are diffused in PVC-coated copper wire deeper than none PVC-coated. However Oxygen showed the reverse diffusion property.
An Forest Ecological Environment Impact Assessment of Forest Fire Suppression Chemicals - To Plants & Soil Organism -

Forest fires occur the world over, with large-scale fires constantly breaking out. A suppressant a type of forest fire chemical is widely used to respond to fires rapidly and effectively. In general, suppressants used for fires have been divided into dry powder, liquid, foam, and gel type, according to physical form and use. This study has conducted toxicity tests relating to phytotoxicity(Pinus densiflora seed germination rate and mortality of containerized seedling), and soil organism toxicity(earthworm acute toxicity tests), of these suppressants, with the loaded stream suppressant for direct forest fire extinguishing a Loaded Stream and foam concentrates generally being used in Korea. From the results of the tests, the loaded stream and the foam concentrate had an effect on the toxicity levels. In the case of the loaded stream type, it was observed that toxicity indicating a 100% lethality rate was found among all toxicity test methods. Therefore, it is determined that forest ecology environmental toxicity impact assessments related to the suppressant used to extinguish forest fires are necessary in the near future.
Assessment of the Usefulness of the Water Spray for Fire Extinguishing in Case of Fire in Tunnels

In this study, we conducted an FDS numerical simulation for the purpose of carrying out a basic assessment of the usefulness of the water spray for fire extinguishing. We analyzed the effect of securing the stability in temperature and smoke density in case of fire according to fire intensities (20MW, 50MW) and changes in wind speed. When there was no wind speed in tunnels, it was effective in securing the safety of people because the cooling effect of the water spray system had an excellent effect on reducing temperatures and smoke densities there. The higher a fire intensity is, the less effect it has on reducing smoke flows. When an air current exists in tunnels, its cooling effect disturbs the smoke stratification and lowers the visibility degree during evacuation. Therefore, the water spray for fire extinguishing should be put into action only after people take shelter during fire.
Properties Evaluation of Thermochromic Gel Compounds for Detecting Overheating

In this research, gel compounds containing thermochromic ingredients were manufactured and evaluated to prevent the transition hazards of fire and explosion, which they are one of the methods for detecting abnormal conditions caused by overheating of special materials early. And also, compounds of viscoelastic and brushing types were manufactured as the kind and content of raw materials, and manufacturing process to enlarge the application for overheat-detecting targets. Test methods were conducted as chromism test, viscosity profile, starting time of thermochromism, and FT-IR analysis. Thermochromic gel materials exhibit chromism properties that can detect abnormal conditions effectively, and then they are possible to various applications.
A study on the Tracking Characteristics of Contaminated Insulating Materials of RCD

This experimental study showed the tracking characteristics of contaminated insulating materials of RCD. Electrolytes is made by IEC(International Electrotechnical Commission) 60589, NaCl added to deionized water as each 0.1 wt%. The used test equipment is application to KS(Korean Industrial Standard) C IEC 60112. The used samples is RCD(Residual Current Device) of tree companies. It is investigated carbonic electric conductive pass growth time and tracking growth form that contaminated insulators materials of RCD. As a result, carbonic electric conductive pass growth time and tracking growth form was different each companies. Track growth time of contaminated insulating materials was faster than non-contaminated.
A Study on the Heat Release Rate of EPS Sandwich Panel Core

Risk Evaluation of Biodiesel

Biodiesel is manufactured from vegetable oils, etc. in reaction with methanol so that the product of biodiesel may be dangerous due to the methanol remained of it. The risks of methanol remained in biodiesel were studied by measuring flash points and dynamic viscosity to some samples of biodiesel by adding methanol to a certain percentage of. The results of flash points of biodiesel are decreased in accordance with increasing of methanol in biodiesel and also decreasing the dynamic viscosity. It was shown that the risks of explosion of biodiesel are significantly high due to lower flash points resulted from methanol remained in biodiesel fuel as a reactant or adding to biodiesel for reduction of viscosity.
A Study on the Effect Factor to the Foam Generating Characteristics of High Expansion Foam

Using the high expansion foam generator of ISO 7203-2 which spray 6 liter at 5 bar, foam generation characteristics was studied. Wind flow rate, foam screen, concentration of foam agent solution and concentration of salt of water were varied to find the effect of the parameters on foam generation. Research result showed that expansion ratio of foam was increased with wind flow rate. The expansion ratio of foam in the perforated type standard screen was higher than the wire mesh screen. Expansion ratio and drainage time were increased with increase of foam solution concentration. But a increase of salt concentration in solution showed the decrease of expansion ratio and drainage time.

There are diverse barriers such as limits to space, time, economy, technology, institution, and etc. in remodeling construction compared to new construction and it needs to overcome such limits. Consequently, for effective performance of construction, planning and application fit for remodeling characteristics shall be made available in time and various studies into remodeling for each construction category are necessary to achieve this. Taking these into account this study conducted research of the followings to draw out necessary steps for planning and application of fire protection facilities in remodeling, to overcome various barriers that may arise during any project operations, and to provide useful materials for construction of reasonable and effective fire protection system.
A Study on the Revitalization of the Emergency Medical Services for a Aged Society - Based on Possible Solutions to Improve Early Response System for Geriatric Emergency Patients -

As a part of improving early response system for senior emergency patients in rural areas in preparation for accelerated transition of Korea into aged society, this study seeks to make effective use of town broadcasting equipments and improve conventional educational ways for the first aid for senior people to boost up availability of private rescue personnel, so that it can contribute to improving capacity to early response to potential occurrence of emergency situations. In addition, this study focuses on profiling current activities of 119 geriatric Emergency Medical Services available in Korea, and also exploring possible ways to improve emergency services for senior safety which can play useful roles of social safeguard in imminent aged society as well as efficient ways to build up infrastructure for senior safety on the basis of opening up senior safety center.

The Study on the Developing Process and the Tasks from Now of the Fire Industry in Korea

The extra session of the 17th National Assembly convened lastly had passed the law on the promotion of the fire industry. Therefore, the development of the fire industry discussed insignificantly in accordance with the establishment of the law. In this important time, this study was intended to derive tasks for development through researching the concept and developing process of the fire industry and forecasting the industry. For defining the concept of the fire industry, this study researched meaning, the present status and features of the industry. For study of developing process of the fire industry, this study analysed fire law and system, fire codes, fire products and development of fire market. The analyses were processed as a unit of every 10 years from 1960's. Consequently, this study presented some tasks for development of the fire industry such as fire inspection system, fire products circulation system, separated ordering system, managing system of fire facilities and technical R & D of the fire industry based on analysing and forecasting the fire industry.

Corruption of the bureaucratic society can cause the whole society to corrupt and it can also increase public expense gradually because of the civil society's distrust of the administration. Throughout experience of front-line firefighters, this study lets the entire firefighters take an interest in increasing integrity and make it the primary assignment of fire administration. It is the most important to find out the illogical systems and try to improve them in order to solve the increasingly secret and sophisticated forms of corruption completely. The purpose of this study is to show the ways to improve firefighters' integrity by analyzing and pointing out the main factor and the realities of corruption of firefighters.

This study has investigated fire safety rules related with traditional temples and main fire causes and cases to traditional temples among traditional wooden buildings so has analyzed fire vulnerability, and through a field probe of three traditional temples in Eunpyeonggu Seoul which have cultural properties, has analyzed geographical conditions, going out path spot reaching time required of a fire brigade, fire protection system, fire prevention administration and security system, factors of fire vulnerability, and has presented about fire safety plans of traditional temples.
