Characteristics of Elastic Wave in Fire damaged High Strength Concrete using Impact-echo Method

In this study, the damages of high strength concrete exposed to high temperature have been evaluated by the impact echo method. Elastic wave velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity were measured by the impact echo method, and the compressive strength and the static modulus of elasticity were measured by the compression testing method after exposure to high temperature. The results showed that elastic wave velocity has a linear correlation with the compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity has a linear correlation with static modulus of elasticity. Based on results, it is concluded that the impact echo method can be effectively applied to evaluate the mechanical properties of fire damaged high strength concrete.
A Study on Adequacy Assessment of Protective Action Distance in Hazardous Chemical Accident by AERMOD Modeling

In Korea, The protective action distance based on Canada's ERG has been adopted for safety of residents in case of hazardous chemicals leakage accident. However, it couldn't respond properly on the accidents because of geographical and meteorological differences between two nations. In this study, It was found that the protective action distance varies depending on season and terrain, Through AERMOD modeling analysis for the petrochemical complex reflected local geographical data and meteorological conditions.
A Study on the Combustion Characteristics of Wood According to Flame Resistant Treatment

This study has conducted an experiment of comparing the flame resistant performance and combustion characteristics according to flame resistant treatment using the Cypress Luba and particle board that is commonly used for interior decoration and furniture. As a result of testing the flame resistant performance of Cypress Luba, the Cypress Luba injected with flame resistant resin using the vacuum pressure treatment has shown to have better performances (carbonized area 9.55% and carbonized length 22.91%) than the Cypress Luba treated with flame resistant coating having rubberized plastic components on its surface. For particle board, the specimen attached with fireproof film was identified to be better (carbonized area 40.10% and carbonized length 43.40%) than the specimen with non-fireproof film. The Study on the Legal Improvement for Fire Protection in Wooden Architectural Heritage

This study covers securing legal systems and institutions regarding the standards for installing fire prevention facilities to prevent fire on wooden architectural heritage. Conflicts among relevant laws were revealed and problems related to fire prevention performance, technical standards, responsibilities, etc. in the process of establishing legal fire prevention equipment and the equipment for self-extinguishing were identified through pondering over current legal systems of fire prevention facilities. To resolve the problems, at least the principle to preserve original shapes of wooden architectural heritage should be secured even though fire prevention facilities are installed and the installation process should be regulated by laws considering features of fire on wooden architectural heritage so that fire prevention performance can be guaranteed. The directions to improve installing system through legalization of design, construction, and audit review institutions and legalization of the technical standards for fire prevention facilities were suggested to guarantee performance when establishing fire prevention facilities for wooden architectural heritage.
A Study on Assesment of Aalidity of Introducing of Design·Construction·Supervision Register Criteria Measures for Hazardous Materials Facilities

This study is to analyze current inadequate status of installing hazardous materials facilities, and to propose rational standards by researching validity for implementing registration for design, construction, supervision for installing fire safety facilities. By studying installation of registering designing, constructing, supervising industry on hazardous material facilities, professional and higher level of stability measures for national hazardous material facility was provided. For above reasons, necessity of institutionalizing of registering standards for construction and supervising industry became clear. Much more gradual institutionalization is needed for construction industry. Moreover, new national qualification should be reconsidered, in order to rebuttal the above and also to cultivate and acquire technical power.
A Study for Performance Improvement of Fire Detector and Sprinkler Head in Apartment Houses

This study suggested the problems and their improvement measures for the operation of fire detectors and sprinkler heads installed at apartment houses. According to a census on population and housing in 2010, apartment houses account for 71.6% of the total housing facilities. And by fire statistics data of the National Emergency Management Agency, approximately 25.0% of fire accidents and 46.4% of casualties occur at apartment houses every year. Therefore, this study conducted for identifying the causes and characteristics of fire to establish the fire safety improvement measures for apartment houses. And this study was carried out virtual fire simulation at domestic apartment houses. The scenario of the simulation contains a comparative analysis on the operation time of standard sprinkler heads and residential sprinkler heads, heat detectors and smoke detectors. As a result of simulation, it was found that standard sprinkler heads and heat detectors installed at the existing apartment houses should be replaced with residential sprinkler heads and smoke detectors for rapid fire suppression. In addition, sprinkler systems should be considered to be installed for excluded floor at apartment houses. Especially, it is necessary to construct remote inspect systems like advanced countries for efficiency of apartment houses safety management.
Study on Efficient Operation on Aerial Fire Fighting Helicopter in Forest Fire

This research analyzed synthetically the characteristic of forest helicopter, fire helicopter, civil helicopter and deployment assets are in operated in forest fire places of our country. Looking at arrangement of helicopter, Chung-buk, Jeonnam has a number of outbreak a forest fire rather than others but it is weak of initial fire attack by a gap of helicopter arrangement. Geong-gi has many helicopter while it is a relatively few outbreak of a helicopter. According to this, We read to consider that Gang-won need to rent more a helicopters and civil helicopter in each weak areas by government expense. In addition Dae-jeon, Chung-buk and Jeon-nam need arrangement of helicopter after secure rental budget. Especially, Dae-jeon need to consider opening base of fire helicopter.
A Study on the Water Hammer Arrester Considering the Way of First Assessment Test

Water hammering created by an unsteady flow in pipeline systems can cause excessive change in pressure, vibration, and noise. So, water hammer analysis is very important for limiting the damage caused to pipeline, pump and valve systems by operation conditions. On the other hand, water hammer arrester has been manufactured and used in order to minimize the damage caused by water hammering phenomenon in domestic, and it has been produced and installed as the low cost-oriented because of being no separate standard in the meanwhile. Therefore, our research team investigated about the standardization of water hammer arrester performance through the various methods, such as test methods for verification of one pipe, assuming the occurrence of water hammer in a water-based fire extinguishing system, separated for opening impact pressure and shut off impact pressure and for a branch pipe in order to make guideline for water hammer arrester performance. And finally, verified the performance of the water hammer pressure as the simple mechanical way using the U-shaped pipe and a test weight, so KFI standards for the water hammer arrester could be established.
A Study on the Precautions Effects of the Enclosure Integrity Test for the Gaseous Extinguishing Systems: Focusing on the Power Plant

The present study was aimed to analyze enclosure integrity test, which is the performance experiment of soaking time, in a fire zone equipped with gaseous extinguishing system in an effort to find understand the effect of precaution factors upon the success of fire extinguishment. To achieve the goal of this study, it divided the fire zones of internal and external power plants into ones taking precaution measures and not taking them and then enclosure integrity test was given respectively. Therefore, this study examined the success rate if the test according to the presence and absence of the precaution measure and confirmed the failure factors, designed concentration soaking time and proportion of leakage area to total volume area by type of gaseous extinguishing system and rooms. Precaution measures were applied to the fire zones without them to confirm the increase of the success rate of enclosure integrity test. By doing so, it was found that reduced number of experiments caused by failure led to cost saving.
The Effect of Two Fingers-Chest Compression Using the Supporting Instrument During Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This paper aims to compare the effectiveness of the chest compression when a person pushes on the infant's chest by using two fingers with the support during infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, with the effectiveness of it without the support, and to find which one is better. For the study, 50 college woman students were tested during the simulation and the result of the test has been analyzed by chi-square test, Fisher's exact test. It is concluded that the way that a person pushes on the infant's chest by using two fingers with the support during infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation has turned out to be more effective and useful. It is thought that in the future, the further study for it should be conducted.
A Presentation on the Manual Hydraulic Calculation Method of the Loop Type Fire Sprinkler System

There are three kinds of design method of the fire sprinkler systems. Grid type is connected all branch as a trapezoid. Loop type is connected cross-mains like circle. The last one is a tree type most commonly used. Grid type needs computer program to calculate the friction loss and flow rate apart from very simple form. In loop type, manual calculation is possible. Design engineer can draw up and calculate the demands without computer program. Because water supplies two direction in loop type, friction loss is smaller than tree type. Water distribution in operation area is uniform because of the small differences of sprinklers discharge pressure. Loop type is superior to tree type in respect of total pressure and flow rate. Using the small diameter pipe, the labor and construction cost will be decreased in the end. Loop type sprinkler design is rarely laid out because design engineers don't know the method. This paper is intended to inform that the loop type is better than the tree type in performance and economic point of view. And also this paper intend to use the loop type easily and widely.
Study on the Ship Fire Analysis According to Explosion Hazard

This study analyzed recent cases of ship fires explosions and investigated their problems and coping plans. Through analysis on the statistical figures, it was found that our nation's situations of maritime accidents by kind during the period of 2009~2013 showed the ratios of ship accidents caused by fires explosions was the highest in 2012 with 7.58% (55 cases) followed by year 2009 with 3.39% (34 cases), year 2010 with 3.39% (25 cases), year 2011 with 6.03% (57 cases) and year 2013 with 6.74% (43 cases), which indicates a steady increase in the number of ship accidents. Majority of reasons for ship fires explosions were lack of safety awareness. Since those accidents happen on the sea, fires, once they happen, tend to get serious due to absence of on board & nearby fire extinguishing facilities, public fire service's uneasy access to them and great influences of natural factors such as wind and etc. Ship fires explosions are special cases unlike what happens to general edifices. So, their coping plans should focus on preventive measures since the damages those cases bring about can be detrimental. For this reason, it's necessary to research precise evacuation plans, develop ship structure & materials reinforcing fire resistance to secure more time for evacuation and enhance people's safety awareness by implementing thorough safety training.
