A Theoretical Study on Establishing Archive 2.0
Kim, You-Seung ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 31~52
This study discusses 'Archive 2.0' as a new paradigm for managing and maintaining user-centered archives. A number of characteristics of 'Archive 2.0' which are quite different from established archives, so-called 'Archive 1.0', are explored in three aspects including management, user relation and archivists' role. Furthermore, the study analyzes types of record services and user participations according to applied technologies. For case studies, two wiki-based record services, 'Your Archives' and 'Our Archives', are explored. Based on the theoretical and practical studies, advantages and drawbacks of 'Archive 2.0' are analyzed. As a result, essential elements for establishing 'Archive 2.0' are discussed.
A Comparative Study on the Description for Architectural Drawings
Chang, Yun-Mee ; Chung, Yeon-Kyoung ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 53~74
Architectural drawings are the records containing a lot of information about constructions and an architectural drawing has a lot of technical, physical and significant uniqueness. The most important thing required to preserve and utilize architectural drawings is description. However, there is still no standard for the description of architectural drawings in Korea. Therefore this study proposes description elements for architectural drawings based upon examining a generic character of architectural drawings and analyzing several standards and guidelines that can be used as the description rule application model for architectural drawings.
Feature Analysis of Metadata Schemas for Records Management and Archives from the Viewpoint of Records Lifecycle
Baek, Jae-Eun ; Sugimoto, Shigeo ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 75~99
Digital resources are widely used in our modern society. However, we are facing fundamental problems to maintain and preserve digital resources over time. Several standard methods for preserving digital resources have been developed and are in use. It is widely recognized that metadata is one of the most important components for digital archiving and preservation. There are many metadata standards for archiving and preservation of digital resources, where each standard has its own feature in accordance with its primary application. This means that each schema has to be appropriately selected and tailored in accordance with a particular application. And, in some cases, those schemas are combined in a larger frame work and container metadata such as the DCMI application framework and METS. There are many metadata standards for archives of digital resources. We used the following metadata standards in this study for the feature analysis me metadata standards - AGLS Metadata which is defined to improve search of both digital resources and non-digital resources, ISAD(G) which is a commonly used standard for archives, EAD which is well used for digital archives, OAIS which defines a metadata framework for preserving digital objects, and PREMIS which is designed primarily for preservation of digital resources. In addition, we extracted attributes from the decision tree defined for digital preservation process by Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and compared the set of attributes with these metadata standards. This paper shows the features of these metadata standards obtained through the feature analysis based on the records lifecycle model. The features are shown in a single frame work which makes it easy to relate the tasks in the lifecycle to metadata elements of these standards. As a result of the detailed analysis of the metadata elements, we clarified the features of the standards from the viewpoint of relationships between the elements and the lifecycle stages. Mapping between metadata schemas is often required in the long-term preservation process because different schemes are used in the records lifecycle. Therefore, it is crucial to build a unified framework to enhance interoperability of these schemes. This study presents a basis for the interoperability of different metadata schemas used in digital archiving and preservation.
A Study on the Functional Elements for Long-term Preservation of Electronic Records
Kim, Myeong-Ok ; Lee, Sang-Yong ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 101~126
This study proposes the functional elements for long-term preservation of electronic records, which are parts of nation's important records and information assets. For this purpose, We compared the international standard ISO 14721 with international research projects and digital archives systems from multi-nations. We identified 18 functional elements for long-term preservation of electronic records. They can be used as the basis to strengthen authenticity and usability when building new digital archive systems or upgrading existing systems at the Archival Institutions.
Study on the Current Status and Improvement Plan for the Records Management of Local Government
Lim, Mi-Kyung ; Rieh, Hae-Young ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 127~146

Based on the interview, the current situation and problems of the local government records management offices were identified in the areas of system related, administration related, and information service related. Suggestions for the improvement were proposed on those areas.
The Analysis of Interface Types and Characteristics of Web Archiving: With a Focus on the Web Archiving Project Initiated by the Nation
Kim, Heejung ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 147~170
In this study, national web archiving cases were reviewed and interface types and characteristics were examined. Five interface categories and fourteen evaluation criteria were selected. As for the OASIS, Korean national web archiving project, functions of retrieval interface and user support interface were insufficient and need to be reinforced. Other recommended improvement plans were; diversifications of the subject area of web contents, sharing the web acquisition, make up the special collection, visualization of archiving time and trends, systematic performance of the archiving strategy, and active collaboration with international organization.
A Study on the Implications of the MSR Standards for the Development of Records Management Practice in Korea
Jeong, Ki-Ae ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 171~192
In this study, the concepts and main ideas of the 'Management System for Records(MSR)' standards which is being prepared by ISO(TC46/SC11) are explained. And the implications and prospects of MSR standards are suggested for the development of records management practice in Korea. The MSR has the same frame with the ISO 9001(QA system) and its main procedures are consistent with ISO 15489. Its methodology of record management can help organizations to integrate their records management with their own management and system development strategies. The MSR can provide good solutions to improve the national archiving policy and to solve the current argument about the professionalism of record managers.

Lee, Ju-Yeon ;
Journal of Records Management & Archives Society of Korea, volume 10, issue 2, 2010, Pages 193~214
The multiple entity data model which contains metadata that associate two or more entities is applied recordkeeping metadata standard in recent years. This paper described and analyzed the recordkeeping metadata standard applying multiple entities such as ISO 23081, Australia recordkeeping metadata Standard, New Zealand recordkeeping metadata Standard, New South Wales recordkeeping metadata Standard, Queensland recordkeeping metadata Standard recordkeeping metadata Standard, South Australia recordkeeping metadata Standard, focusing on scope, the number of entities, category in entity, metadata elements. And shows some examples of relationship entity which is the key of multiple entity. As a result of the analysis, this paper suggests some consideration when recordkeeping metadata standard applying multiple entities is revised.
