The school complex project is driven by public calling for school facilities change due to the social change followed by the aging society and increasing interest in the lifelong education. The school complex project is defined as an activity in which the school facilities and space are not only used for students, but also for the local residents. Despite of the high expectation and attention, the school complex project, however, has been performed in a limit of efficiency. Consequently, public opinion calling for more structured and effective way on construction and administration has been certainly increasing. According to the strong demand, this study was carried out to provide basic data for, and suggest an approach to, more structured and effective way of establishment and administration of the school complex project by comparing the success cases in Seoul metropolitan city.

An, Hui-Uk ; Lee, Jae Rim ;
The journal of Sustainable Design and Educational Environment Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2009, Pages 12~21
The purpose of this study is to suggest a scheme to provide children safer and more comfortable walking circumstances by survey current walking circumstances of school zone ways. First, to avoid pedestrian roads being interrupted and to expand waiting space near school zone ways, several measures are needed including fixing roads, using schools' unemployed spaces and building additional gateway. Second, pedestrian crossings in front of school gate should be located at least 23.16m away from the left side of the gate. Third, on narrow path which cross main streets, the interval of pedestrian signal should be extended as against of the moment. And traffic calming facilities should be built on accurate position. Fourth, to secure pedestrians' safety and field of view, trees lining streets and any obstacles located within 10m from bus stop sign should be removed. Finally, education system about school zone ways should be improved to help children get used to more complicated roads' conditions.

The journal of Sustainable Design and Educational Environment Research, volume 8, issue 2, 2009, Pages 40~50
The toilet in school building is one of most crucial elements for the recent changing face in school design, but the number of toilets and urinals in most school may not be sufficient to meet current needs, especially in the girl's toilet rooms. This study aims to suggest a guideline in designing the toilet in school buildings and propose the optimum area and development of models. The survey for this study is conducted through questionnaires collected and research from 9 schools in Seoul. The results of this study, it is suggested that the number of toilet facilities in school buildings be required by ratio of 0.5 toilets per a class and 1.1 urinal per a class for boy. In case of girls, it is suggested that ratio of 1.6 toilets per a class. Based on the result, it also propose various unit plans for each class block with space such as rest zone, green zone, powder zone etc.
