Design of rectangular microstrip patch antenna for receiving a microwave power propagating in a rectangular waveguide
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 131~136
In this paper, the input impedance of coaxial fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna located inside rectangular waveguide is calculated by using the cavity model and the mode excited in the waveguide by the patch antenna. The return loss and efficiency of the patch antennas as a function of feed position in. free space and in waveguide are calculated and compared. The maximum efficiency of the antennas in waveguide and in free space are obtained at different feed position.
A Study on the Intergrated Voice/Data transmission Algorithm characteristics on Local Area Network
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 137~143
From now on, the network is being developed into PSTN(public switched telephone network) and PDN(public data network), that is depend on the form of data. The former one pursues sending voice, and the latter one pursues sending data. But it causes big loss of the economy and efficiency. So, ISDN, processing voice and data at same time, gives a big profit to user. To enlarge the ISDN at the narrow area, it is necessary that study to send the mixture form of voice and data in LAN environment. So, this paper proposes the algorithm about the mixture form of voice and data in ethernet and token-ring. that is widely used in these days.
A Dynamic Synchronization Method for Multimedia Delivery and Presentation based on QoS
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 145~158
Method for synchronizing multimedia data is needed to support continuous transmission of multimedia data through a network in a bounded time and it also required for supporting continuous presentation of multimedia data with the required norminal playout rate in distributed network environments. This paper describes a new synchronization method for supporting delay-sensitive multimedia Presentation without degration of Quality of services of multimedia application. It mainly aims to support both intermedia and intermedia synchronization by absorbing network variations which may cause skew or jitter. In order to remove asynchonization problems, we make use of logical time system, dynamic buffer control method, and adjusting synchronization intervals based on the quality of services of a multimedia. It might be more suitable for working on distribute[1 multimedia systems where the network delay variation is changed from time to time and no global clock is supported. And it also can effectively reduce the amount of buffer requirements needed for transfering multimedia data between source and destination system by adjusting synchronization intervals with acceptable packet delay limits and packet loss rates.
A Real-Time Scheduling Mechanism in Multiprocessor System for Supporting Multimedia
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 159~168
This paper presents a mechanism which supplies tasks with fast turn-around time on real-time multimedia environments. Tasks are classified into periodic and aperiodic tasks according to their executing period, and the types of them are classified into three groups : critical tasks, essential tasks and common tasks by the degree of its urgency. In the case of periodic tasks, we defer the execution of it within the extent to keep the deadline as long as possible and serve the aperiodic tasks, and provide aperiodic tasks with fast turn-around time. Changing the priority of each task is allowed within the same type and it is scheduled by using the dynamic priority. The emergency tasks are executed within deadline in any circumstances, and the least laxity one is served first when many real-time tasks are waiting for execution. The result of simulation shows that the proposed mechanism is better than the EDZL, known as suboptimal in multiprocessor systems, in the point of rum-around time.
An Efficient Algorithm for Mining Ranged Association Rules
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 169~181
Some association rules can have very high confidence in a sub-interval or a subrange of the domain, though not quite high confidence in the whole domain. In this paper, we define a ranged association rule, an association with high confidence worthy of special attention in a sub-domain, and further propose an efficient algorithm which finds out ranged association rules. The proposed algorithm is data-driven method in a sense that hypothetical subranges are built based on data distribution itself. In addition, to avoid redundant database scanning, we devise an effective in-memory data structure, that is collected through single database scanning. The simulation shows that the suggested algorithm has reliable performance at the acceptable time cost in actual application areas.
A Study on the Hopfield Network for automatic weapon assignment
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 183~191
A neural network-based algorithm for the static weapon-target assignment (WTA) problem is Presented in this paper. An optimal WTA is one which allocates targets to weapon systems such that the total expected leakage value of targets surviving the defense is minimized. The proposed algorithm is based on a Hopfield and Tank's neural network model, and uses K x M processing elements called binary neuron, where M is the number of weapon platforms and K is the number of targets. From the software simulation results of example battle scenarios, it is shown that the proposed method has better performance in convergence speed than other method when the optimal initial values are used.
PN Chip Clock Generator for CDMA Code Synchronization
Oh, Hyun-Seo ;
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 193~197
In this paper, we propose a new PN chip clock generator which employs two synchronous counters to achieve precise phase control of chip clock. In a CDMA code acquisition and tracking system, the PN chip clock is required to operate highly reliable without any glitch even under harsh environment condition such as temperature and voltage fluctu-aliens. The digital implementation of the proposed PN chip clock generator imparts it with much desired reliability. Since the proposed chip clock generator can be easily controlled into one of the states: free running, phase advance, and delay state, it can be applied to data processing as well as code synchronization. We have done FPGA implementation of the proposed logic and have verified its satisfactory operation up to 50 MHz.

Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 199~207
The Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation scheme is modified to improve the error performance of the correlative coding in the Tamed FM. To remove intersymbol interference, the Decision Feedback Equalization scheme with the delayed LMS algorithm and the Viterbi algorithm(10-symbol delay) in the delayed adaptive equalization are proposed for the performance of decision-directed adaptive equalization under the High Frequency channels, and the condition of convergence is analyzed.
A Study on the DBS Receive Tracking Antenna Apparatus on a Ship by the Az/El Mount
Journal of the Korea Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, volume 1, issue 2, 1997, Pages 209~220
DBS offers actual services to mass-media and communication system of very broad region in information society. Especially, the DBS is the only system to access TV broadcasting service on a sailing ship. But the ship's DBS receiver is required a complex antenna tracking system because ships are under complex moving such as pitch, roll, and yaw etc. This study is motivated to develop a tracking antenna system to receive the koreasat on small silo ship. Therefore, this system is researched to small size, light weight, simple operation, and low cost of the product. The mount structure have been a compact size and easy operation to the Az/El 2-axis type which is operated by step motor. And it is very useful on a ship in the around sea of korean peninsula. The antenna has a plate type of micro-strip array, and is a domestic production. The vibration sensor is selected to gyro sensor of ultra-sonic rate type for ship's moving control. Tracking method is used the step-tracking algorithm, and the ship's moving compensation is adapted to the closed loop control method by ship's moving detection of gyro sensor. Tracking test is operated by the ship's moving simulator, we examined the actual receiving state on sailing shipboard in the near sea of korean peninsular.
